Rookie fail: No draft class had less snaps in 2013 than the Miami Dolphins

Lets look at how many snaps they have in yr 2-3 and for which teams, then grade Jeff.....Shouright is correct snaps does not equal success

In other words lets keep Ireland for another 3 or 4 years......lol

Ozzy rules!!

Don't write this draft class off yet. Joe Philbin's biggest contribution to Green Bay over a long period of time was in developing the Offensive talent, with Aaron Rodgers, Jermichael Finley, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, being obvious successes. However, he prefers to have the rookies spending their first year learning from the sidelines and gently easing them in. He broke that philosophy in year one for Tannehill (because of the Sherman relationship) and Martin (which I'm sure he now regrets).
As a Head Coach, I think that he likes the prospect of extending his drafted talent development philosophy to the Defense, as well. It is not an accident that players like Dion Jordan, Jamar Taylor, Will Davis and Jelani Jenkins got so little playing time. This is Joe's plan and we will see what they can do next year.
Be patient. Good things sometimes take time. I'm pretty sure that Joe is operating to a different rookie time schedule than most other coaches. Time will tell if it works, but this is not an accident or poor drafting. It's a deliberate strategy.

Well said, and agreed. Tannehill was the best option, and Martin was the only option. Playing RT was the right choice but, Martin, at RT, was clearly not strong enough to play.

This year, Jordan and Taylor had injury problems which set their development back a lot. Then, we have players in OV and Patterson/Carroll playing very well. No need to rush the rookies.

I would have liked to see more of Jordan at OLB but, Misi has also played well, and Jordan was not strong enough vs the run. All in all, I wait a year to see this as a VG draft.

two things in regard to this.

This coaching staff doesnt like to rely on rookies and we got some good players in Grimes and OV stepping up. circumstances if you will. This will mean nothing next year.

Kiko the steal of the draft? Who on here was pushing Kiko? Probly not many. That guy is puny.

Not for nothing but the fact that the rookies didnt get time says more about their bust status than the fact vets were in front of them. Jordan was a good pick IMO but Thomas couldnt even crack into the active list with an offensive line that was as bad as ours. This tells us Thomas was a garbage pick. Taylor may become something but with the limited snaps he saw, he showed absolutely nothing. Davis, when he got playing time showed that he was no where near supplanting anyone in the secondary. He repeadedly got burned and destroyed. Gilleslee got in but averaged something like 3.5 ypc although behind this garbage line, however even during the preseason Gileslee was crap. I am expecting nothing out of this class other than Jordan.

Another article about 2013 draft class:

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-dolphins-0101-20131231,0,1541766.story
Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan, the No. 3 pick of the draft, finished the season with 26 tackles and two sacks. Those numbers aren't what anyone expected for someone the Dolphins traded up to get for his defensive services.

"This off-season I've got to get much better as a player in all aspects," Jordan said, later adding, "I've got to continue to develop as a player

Jordan could have been speaking for the entire draft class.

It wasn't a good year for the Dolphins' draftees, to say the least. While five of the nine played regularly, only two – Jordan and tight end Dion Sims -- played regularly from scrimmage. The other three were special teams contributors.

Why? Is Jordan a better option for OV, who has played really well? You take many a blind shots but, give no reason as to why. Is it that you do not know or, want everyone to guess? I have yet to see a post backed up by anything but "Stevie Wonder Opinion." :0

why do we always have to make excuses and spin things? it is what it is. maybe in a couple years things will be different, but as of right now it looks like the dolphins had one of the worst drafts in the nfl in 2013.
I'm actually not trying to spin anything. I don't think that you can tell if they deliberately don't want to play them a lot in their rookie year. Effectively, we need a longer period than year one to assess whether the players like Jordan, Taylor, Thomas, Davis, Jenkins, Gillislee, Sims, etc are a success or a failure.
To use an investment analogy, one can invest money in specific stocks. If you are a long term investor you have to wait a decent period to evaluate your investment. Some shares will go up and some will go down. Generally if you are patient and believe in certain fundamentals, you can succeed in the long term. The same is true for a team drafting footballers. If you still believe in certain players for the longer term, you have to be patient. If we see coming into the second year training camp that a lot of the players drafted have not improved and need to get cut, then yes, it's probably a bad draft and the GM and Scouts who got so much wrong in analyzing the fundamentals need to take responsibility. Maybe they are the problem.
However, Joe had consistent success in Green Bay developing players through the draft and deliberately sitting on the bench as rookies. Apart from a few exceptions, he is implementing a similar system here. At this point in time, it is too early to say whether the approach is a success or a failure.
A player like Will Davis looked good in Training Camp by making interceptions practically every day. However, he's very skinny and needs to get physically bigger and stronger to not get exploited. Will was a 3rd round draft pick and got very little playing time. He appears to be smart and confident and he handled himself OK when called upon in the Patriots game (when all of the attention was correctly directed to the hero of the game, Michael Thomas). Next year Training Camp let's see if Will Davis is bigger, stronger and making plays. He could be a great draft pick but at this stage we simply don't know.

I take a pretty keen interest in the Draft, it's one of my favorite times in the NFL calendar. I notice that the Cincinatti Bengals are a pretty frugal team. Owner Mike Brown inherited the team from his Dad and the team is his chief source of income. Where Woody Johnson at the Jets is part of the Johnson and Johnson empire and Bob Kraft is an owner of Kraft Foods and most other owners have extreme wealth generated from other investments and the football team is simply a profit generating interest.
Anyway, the Bengals have not had the money to throw around on players like most of the other teams. The owner is also the GM and he employs a small scouting team. Allegedly, the smallest in the NFL. However, Cincinatti has had more success in the players drafted in recent years. They also deliberately pick up highly drafted players that are cut from other teams and give them a second chance and pay them a bit less. Because they have been so frugal, compared to the teams owned by billionaires, they appear to be building a better value team at less expense than us. Jeff Ireland has the luxury of working for the second wealthiest owner in the NFL. Stephen Ross is the biggest real estate developer in New York city. So when Jeff takes a bath on a free agent, it gets reported to Mr Ross, but when it happens again and again and again, then Ross has a problem and the consequence is that the GM isn't picking the right players. Maybe we can learn something from the Bengals. They are in the playoffs having won their conference and the team dismissed for having the smallest Scouting Department is doing surprisingly well against the bigger spenders. Welcome your feedback..

who knows how these guys will end up but year one you have to give our rookie class a D to an F.
Number 3 pick hardly plays
Both corners played little and when they did made no impact
Rookie G plenty of opportunity to play with all that went on and he barely played.
running game struggled yet Gillis coulnt beat out a very average at best Thomas
sims made no impact even with Keller injured.

Lets see what year 2 brings

Hard to judge by this. Rookies usually take a few years to determine if they are going to be successful or not, so I don't think one year is enough to evaluate.

However, I am disappointed in Dion Jordan's playing time and impact. For the number 3 pick in the draft, he should have been more impactful in my mind.
