Root hard for AUBURN tonight

He'll see it.

After days of meetings and constant evaluations on what happened this season, Stephen Ross sits in a dark room with a scotch in hand watching the BCS Championship. Watching intently, he sees something. A fire begins rolling around his guts, a passion sparks a heart grown cold, he leans forward squinting at the screen, one hand clutching his drink, the other gripping his chair. He finally knows what to do. The truth in inescapable. That performance, that excitement, that resilience...it touches him deeply. A moment of complete clarity passing through his being and he is immediately calmed by a sense of peace and purpose, "This is football and this is how you coach football" he thinks to himself.

Saluting the man on the television with a nod, he stands and walks to his phone to begin laying the groundwork. Calling Higgins, he speaks a simple statement:

"Lets go hire Jimbo Fisher"

 Oh god. You're probably right

Gus is an outstanding coach but I have to give Fisher props for some great halftime adjustments. They are both better than Philbin, apparently. I hammer Fisher but he did well tonight in the face of adversity. With that being said, I will take Guys any day in Miami.

So what, it took UA a return on a missed FG to get there, that's the way the ball bounces. How about the no call on the facemask, or the no call on the horse collar? Or how about Jernigam being out during UA's last scoring drive?

It was a great game. UA dominated on the line, but FSU never gave up, fought back and took the game...

Oh I don't care who won. I was really commenting on the job malzahn did.

I can't even thank you for this. It's too scary.

No. Only the fanbase comprised of morons deserve this. The rest of us do not!

Yep...

Case in point, gameday thread fans commenting on Philbin's use of timeouts before the half just before we scored a TD:

lol at miami calling a TO

do they really think they'll get the ball back and score before the half ends

oh, Joe. Sometimes you just tickle me pink

Stupid Philbin calling time outs. What will happen is instead of being down 10-0 at half, we'll be down 17-0 after a pick six or sack fumble.

New England was gashing us. Need the D to collect themselves. Hence the time out.

why are they calling timeouts

Great coaching philbin. Give NE those timeouts

Gitcha, sorry I am a little excited here as you can imagine, at least one of my teams actually play big boy football...LOL

Yes Malzhan is a very good coach, Jimbo is no slouch either.

Ross learned how to win championships tonight.

Pay off the refs like the clowns do all the time.

Not even Gus Malzahn can beat that.

I am just SICK

That offense would be beastly, especially in Miami in December. Homefield advantage in the playoffs would be an automatic ticket to the superbowl. Who knows, maybe he stays in college another year and we get a true blowup next year.

Imagine a no huddle offense with Tannehill playing like a mobile QB. People say he would get hurt, but he got sacked 60 times and he still played the whole season, so I think it would work.

Don't sweat it guys, Matt Higgins, Curtis Martin, and Eric Mangini have a plan for this team that doesn't involve swinging for the fences with FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.

Is this a joke? The most obvious horse collar and face mask penalties I've ever seen NOT called. FSU was almost robbed by the zebras tonight.

Auburn squandered a national championship tonight. Yeah, let's bring in that staff. Brother.

Terrific game and an even better outcome. College football couldn't afford another SEC title with the format change next year. There would be a minimum of 2 SEC teams in the final four, with strong possibility of 3. Now that the streak has ended, that's yesterday's news and the door is thrown open.

Florida State did it the correct way. This is the third consecutive season in which they have allowed only 4 yards per play. That requires tremendous sustained intensity level. They led the nation this season at 3.95. Michigan State was next, barely above 4. Louisville was third at 4.20. You might note how those three teams fared in bowl games. Then it was a big gap to 4.50.

I mentioned that 4 yard stat on several Canes forums, beginning in 2011. Somehow the ignorance persisted, with cries that Florida State was phony. Those fans undoubtedly rooted against the Seminoles today and they got what they deserved. As much as I hate our stadium and think the Canes can't overcome it, I'll pay attention if we ever allow 4 yards per play again for an entire season.

Florida State got very lucky when their safety #13 missed the tackle on the long touchdown run with 1:19 remaining. If they stop that play, Auburn scores anyway, and with too little time for Winston to respond. I'm still not confident Winston would have pulled it out minus a huge play on the final drive. Somehow Auburn cooperated, but that's apropos for a team allowing more than 7 yards per pass attempt. No team in modern history has won the title allowing more than 7 yards per attempt. Fortunately that record still stands. Auburn in 2010 was the worst in memory at 6.7

Malzahn impressively ran the ball, even when down late. The problem with the obsession with spread offenses is too many coaches don't grasp the Chip Kelly or Gus Malzahn approach, and think it's an excuse to throw the ball 50 or 60 times, like the idiot Mike Leach.

I don't like Winston, and muted him during all the post game blabber. Congrats to my sister the Florida State grad. I stayed at her house in Ocoee for the Russell Athletic Bowl. Her daughter made a green and orange Canes bracelet for me, and thew threw up the U when I arrived. They rooted for the Canes and I pulled for Florida State. Both of us don't like the Gators, but I'll tame my description of them here since there are many impressive Gator fans on this site.
