Ross: Marshall was going to be cut/Other issues addressed

So, in other words, he refused to pay Market Price for Flynn or Smith because they have Matt Moore, and can target a rookie to overdraft? I would not have overpaid for Flynn either, but the Seahawks didn't do so.

Sheesh.....

I'm have gained a lot more respect for Ross after this, I actually read it on the sun-sentinel first before I came on here. I already was fine and understandable with the moves, but I'm glad the owner reached out to the fans. This just might be the beginning of a new era, you can't really complain much here. I'm very happy with the move to call a 20 year season ticket holder, and even more happy with his explanations and his desire to win.

first ireland, now ross, both public statements by 2 have been everything dolphin fans already knew was coming. Lets face it, they wont ever tell the fans anything that is there future plans. He said a hole lotta nothing as usual, He would not if they were rebuilding which clearly they are.....

This is the dumbest post I've ever read on here. What the hell do you want them to say? Should they give everyone a rundown on all the players they want to take in the draft or the players they want to sign in free agency? Hell, maybe they should show everyone their playbook so all the fans will know what to expect on game day. I'm also sick of you saying they struck out on three QB's this off-season. There was only one, Peyton Manning, that was worth a damn. It is obvious they were not sold on Flynn and they were just kicking the tires with Alex Smith. Dan Lebatard said the Dolphins never offered Smith a contract, thank God. It is obvious that they want to draft a QB and also build their offense through the draft and by retaining their own free agents and bargain free agents.

i don't care what anybody on the dolphins comes out and says publicly. it's irrelevant. and regarding potential personnel moves it's usually disinformation. i'm not the kind of fan that needs to hear from the owner or the gm to soothe my poor nerves. the amount that people on this board are hung up on the PR bullcrap is amazing. "ross should have said this." "ireland should have said that." "are we rebuilding?" "are we?" "i need to hear what's going on." who cares? just open your eyes. it's all about actions, not words, and the product on the field. if flynn becomes the next great quarterback in this league for seattle, that is squarely on philbin, because i believe that if ross was told flynn was a franchise qb by philbin, ross would have outbid the seahawks for him. ross is not cheap. ross will spend to the cap. ross knows we desperately need a franchise qb to compete consistently. don't just be a naysayer and try to play it like despite ross knowing flynn was a franchise qb he lowballed him and lost him to seattle. pretty sure that never happened.

lol, in your hole long thought out post not one time did you mention ireland. Dude, do u not realize how big of an impact ireland has on front office decisions??? you seem to know whats going on for the most part but i think you havent caught on to the ireland side of things.

philbin has no say in contract negotiations. He has an opinion but ireland has the final say, that is a fact. Even so, reason flynn didnt come to miami wasnt just because of money, he was treated better by the seahawks front office and felt more at home.

I don't buy it. I'm going with the simplest explanation, which is that we just didn't think he was that great and we didn't want to give him more money. Why do I think that?

1. Flynn's dad, when interviewed, talked about how Matt really wanted to go to Miami. After Flynn signed with the Seahawks, his dad said that there was a difference between what Matt thought he was worth and what Miami thought he was worth, and that it was a shame they couldn't reconcile the numbers. So even if he was he was 'treated better' by the Seahawks, I do believe that it was about money.

2. Jeff Ireland wants to keep his job and I'm sure he wants to have a winning football team he can point at and say "Hey, I built that." Steve Ross wants to have a winning football team, I can assure you of that. I'm pretty sure Joe Philbin wants to win. So why, if Joe Philbin tells Jeff Ireland "Flynn is my guy, he's a franchise QB, I want him running my offense" does Ireland refuse to pay him more than Matt Moore, a guy who is earning peanuts? Does not pass the smell test.

Do you think Jeff Ireland is intentionally sabotaging the Dolphins franchise? Do you think he is literally so stupid that he can not correlate "franchise QB" with "winning more games and having some job security?" Do you think that if Joe Philbin went to bat for Matt Flynn, Steve Ross wouldn't have nudged Ireland in the direction of paying more to get him?

Because I'm fully willing to believe that Jeff Ireland is not a good evaluator of QBs or that Jeff Ireland isn't a very good GM, but I don't believe he's stupid, incompetent, or downright treasonous enough to refuse to make a strong bid for a quarterback that his head coach -- who has coached the guy in practice every day for years -- thinks is going to be an elite or even 'very good' type of guy.

right, that $3 million per season was just an added plus... the Dophins treated him like what he is- a back-up

Well like Dennis Green said he was who we thought he was so we just wasted three years of salary cap space and traded two second round picks for two third round picks for a guy that even Ray Charles knew was trouble. So after everyone blaming everything but Marshall we finally have the light come on. Marshall trade epic fail all around.

I don't even know with you anymore. I am sure you bitched about the Marshall trade from the get go. Because you would complain about us getting a refurbished Marino for a 6th round pick even if you knew we got a golden ticket, just your nature. The original deal for Marshall was a decent gamble when it was done. We got 2 thirds back for him. After a couple years of use and him being in the state he is in, thats not bad. The money would have been spent elsewhere and we could not get it back at this point anyway. It sucks that he hurts our cap this year, but them is the breaks.

Read over it than, thats all you gotta do. Cant be that dum if you took the time to respond to it. Just like the prosters, everyone called them dum idiots, but yet ross and ireland both replied to them? lmao!!!!!!

sprinkle ireland's name in there a few times. once philbin said his piece on flynn to ireland and/or ross, that was it. there is no way philbin told ross/ireland that flynn was a franchise qb, ross wanted to go sign him for big money, and ireland caused it not to happen. not a chance. do you believe ross and philbin wanted flynn and ireland went low on the money and lost him? do you? you all would have gotten your wish and ireland's ass would have been canned.

Not me. I would rather have Marshall ON the team than two 3rd round picks.

Nub I would you and so would i , but when you hear we would have cut him instead of (2) 3 I think its safe to say we made out like bandids. Thbisv migh end up ike Marty Booker for Owele A. Its least I'm hoping as much. Lol

my issues with the protest was that the people protesting were mostly misguided and spouting things they heard on the Big O show (or other media outlets). as a group it made dolphins fans look bad. if 30 ignorant people that knew nothing about the dolphins showed up at training camp to yell profanities and throw poo at each other, they would have gotten exactly the same treatment as if 30 knowledgeable fans that had insight into what was actually happening with the franchise showed up to have an elevated discourse on the merits of free agency (which is a phone call to one of them and statement from ireland). why were they protesting? they don't know. they don't like ross, because he said he really wanted manning and didn't get him. they don't like ireland, because he has been behind every dolphin mistake for the last 10 or 12 years. they wanted matt flynn, because they know more than philbin about matt flynn. they want better PR from the dolphins so they can feel soothed and not have to roll off the couch and make a sign. honestly. in the middle of march? they have no idea why they were protesting, and the reasons they think they were protesting were not even the actual issues with the team.

In the 2 games in the nfl that flynn started he made a case for being a potential great qb in the nfl. chad henne started 31 games in the nfl, in those 31 games, when did u ever think he had the potential to be a great qb? never, not even in his best games. One other thing, you are forgetting that aaron rodgers was a backup for 3 years in GB, its called qb development, u know? so why is matt flynn not allowed to develop?

sprinkled. I disagree, i think ireland has just as much opinion as philbin, if philbin says hes thinks flynn has the "potential" to be a franchise qb, ireland can just turn around and say we need you to be "sure" and thats the deal breaker right there. Ireland will always bump heads with our heads coaches because of his powers. Give philbin final say and flynn is our starting franchise qb day 1.

whats to say philbin didnt? by now ross has lied so much to the fans how can u believe anything he says? i dont believe anything that comes out the dolphins front office. Its all playin politics, sayin whats best for tickets sales. With that said, they did go after flynn but no matter what philbin opinion was they would not overpay because ross is cheap and its evident ever since the orton trade. Which was a good move by ross cause orton wasnt worth it but whats to say flynn wasnt worth the gamble if philbin gave his endorsement, il tell you who, the other dumb and dumber ireland was that guy. Ireland disagreed with philbin and thats why we didnt get flynn, ireland the dolphin destroyer? what about if this kid lights it up in seatle and becomes one of the great qbs in the nfl next year and yet again the dolphins are still with backups old qbs.

Do you realize how much you contradict yourself in this post? You accuse Ross of only trying to sell tickets and imply that winning isn't the most important thing to him but when he says that the organization doesn't feel that Flynn isn't much of an upgrade you bash him for not signing him. If he was just trying to sell tickets don't you think he would have signed Flynn to give people like yourself hope that Flynn was some kind of messiah so he could sell more tickets? How does trading Brandon Marshall give you evidence that Ross is only about selling tickets? Fans are practically committing suicide over the fact that the Dolphins traded one of the most overrated receivers in the league. Finally, the most damning evidence against your claim that Ross only cares about selling tickets and not about winning is that he didn't pursue Tim Tebow when he became available. What player out there, other than Peyton Manning, would have put more people in the seats even if it would have been a horrible football decision?
