Ross to pay for renovations?

I'm glad Ross is listening to me. I started a thread during the scandal suggesting that he do exactly this to turn his PR around and become a So. Fla hero. Mr. Ross and/or associates please PM me if you'd like to discuss a position in the organization.

look its the Miami taxpayers decision but you already give the heat and marlins the same tax break, if Ross is going to pay 400 million I see no reason why this shouldnt happen

Sure it is. He is making an investment in a property that will easily bring the missing property tax money back to the community. Between the construction contracts, Super Bowls, college football bowls and the prospect of more people coming to games….this is a great deal for South Fla.

Don't forget the higher prices for premium box seats......he will most definitely get the money back for this investment....not to mention when he decides to sell the team....

the canopy is not necessary for the superbowl since it is played at night...I really hate that idea because the sun is the dolphins biggest home field advantage in the early part of the season...we started losing it when we got the bubble and stopped practicing in the 200 degree 1000% humidity...

the seats need more leg room more than anything else...I honestly dont know what 400 million is going to do for the stadium...the way the concrete is put together what are they doing to the stadium that improves it so much they can get the superbowl over an new stadium in san fran?
The canopy only covers the seats, so the light and heat should pretty much be the same for the players. I think it is a necessity for the Super Bowl bid because the NFL complained that it rained on the fans during the Colts/Bears Super Bowl. Which is a joke because they just held the Super Bowl in New York where it could have snowed on fans.

It was good 30 years ago when it was Joe Robbie stadium, but that WAS 30 years ago. Time for a new stadium.

Don't disrespect Joe Robbie like that. That comment is disgusting.

Screw the canopy and bring back the 1pm games. That's for the business and corporate sissies that can't handle the heat and the rain.
Closer seats to the field? Now you're talking.

Would they be done before the beginning of the season? Thats kinda quick I think.

#Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkel tells @JoeRoseShow stadium renovations need to start now so that a bid for the next Super Bowl can be made ASAP

No. They just want to get it started so when the next Super Bowl bidding starts they can point.

Kind of like when your mom used to tell you to clean your room so your friends could come over and play. Quickly shove crap under the bed and point, I'm almost done.

Maybe the inner renovations but the canopy I highly doubt would be ready until next year earliest.

Hey, if Ross, the univ of Miami, and the city of Miami don't have the vision, intellect, or common sense to understand what a multi plex canes and dolphins venue designed to take advantage monetarily and competitively of a true 12 concept and rekindle the atmosphere both programs used to have and where they got their identities, and why they both have lost theirs, then I will settle for lipstick on a pig, when you are at the worst by far, I'm not gonna complain, it's just a shame that the suits don't get the impact what they COULD accomplish with an extra 500 mill....Would make that back on the 12 the man advantage in no time, Seattle is bringing in 10's of millions per year extra on ticket season tickets sales, merchandising, publicity, local tv ratings/ commercial advertising, culture building entities, and an obvious competitive advantage that is so tangible it's unfair but brilliant,

Bring it closer to Miami and include the canes or it'll forever be a fail....

Statement from Ross

“I have made clear I want the stadium modernized because it’s right for our fans and it’s right for Miami-Dade and South Florida. I have decided the best way to get this done is to pay for the project with private funds. All we ask in return is that we are treated the same as all franchises in the state of Florida. A world-class city needs a world-class stadium.

"We haven’t won a Super Bowl bid in Miami-Dade in far too long, and we know that with the stadium as an issue, we never will unless it is modernized. The Super Bowl Committee will have to decide if they want to compete for the next two Super Bowls so time is of the essence. It is time to move forward.

"This privately funded project will create more than 4,000 local jobs. We can bring back the Super Bowl, the College Football Playoff Championship and world-class soccer matches -- and all the revenue those big events generate for the local community. I am going to make the commitment and provide the resources because Miami deserves the economic benefits of a modernized stadium.

But for me, this is about something more. I grew up here in Miami-Dade and have been part of this area for most of my life. I want to do this for the community that has done so much for me, and for this storied franchise that means so much to the people of South Florida. With this project, we can secure the future of the Dolphins in Miami-Dade for another 20 years. That is more important to me than anything else.”

The guy buys up extra tickets so casual Miami fans can still watch on TV.
He isn't shy about paying players.
He is (reportedly) going to fund renovations with his own money.

But he's a bad owner because we didn't win enough games. Sometimes I wonder about you people.

Nobody thinks he's a bad owner because he spends money.

Many people, however, feel he's a bad owner because he let incompetents run the team and often doubled down on their incompetence (i.e. giving Sparano an extension for 2011, retaining Ireland for 2012 and 2013). When you give Sparano a vote of confidence after the disaster that was the end of the 2010 season, and when you let Ireland muddle around with one draft too many, you're not making good decisions hence you're not being a good owner (and Philbin, so far, hasn't looked like the second coming of Shula either).

I hope there's a roadblock and this plan completely falls through. It would be devastating for this community and for the two occupying football teams to be stuck in that building and in that location for subsequent decades.

Anything can be misconstrued as a positive if your value system is lame or simple enough. I just changed my transmission fluid. I suppose I could have dumped the old stuff on my lawn or in my pool and briefly marveled at the nice red tint. Disregard the cost in the morning. That's the problem with Steve Ross. All the down the road terrible mornings he causes, based on inept values and decision making toward football. Last year there were threads here touting the resigning of Reshad Jones. Great, assign big money to a mediocrity, because it eases the fear and makes you feel good at the time. You'll fare well applying that concept to every variable. This issue is no different.

Yeap.

Waste of money here. Should take his $400M and pour it into something new in a new location.

Needs a location that speaks to Miami.

:tubes:

Where? Stiltsville or the Everglades?
