(rumor) Lions could look at A.J.

i didnt know there was a "depth chart rule" in the nfl.

but my point is that AJ has value to the fins. even if its just as the 3rd QB, (i dout he will stay the #3 guy for long). i dont see gus finishing the season. and i definatly dont see gus starting next season. IMO, AJ still has "potential", and if not of much use now, can be of use later in the season, and maybe next season.

but i see your point about getting some value for a guy your going to cut. but i just think hes worth more to your team, than his current trade value. so he wont be traded.

I know YOU think he is worth more to us, but FORTUNATELY Mr Saban doesn't have the same feelings. AJ is about to be cut, understand? Sage is the 2nd string QB.. With me here? If someone offers us a 7th round pick for AJ? He would be out the door faster than Ronnie Brown runs the 40

Um, why all the talk about AJ being a great fit in the Lions system? The Lions run a derivative of the West Coast Offense, which prizes quick throws and quick decision making. It means you have to run through your checkdowns quicker than a standard offense.

AJ, meanwhile, stares down his first receiver like the guy 10 minutes before closing time checking out the last girl at the bar.

I fully agree. This gets back to infins thread " AJ SUCKS" Imagine the pressure this guy would be under in Detroit? With the players they have around the QB and his inability to see the whole field? He might actually pass out on the field.

I don't think AJ will even be in the league in a few years, he isn't cut out for the QB position in the NFL. He should give Canada a try.

well, IF the fins are gunna cut him anyways, then ok, trade him for whatever you can get. BUT, i dont think AJ dropping to the #3 QB position will mean he stays at the #3 spot. maybe its simply motivation. maybe he wants to see what your other guy can do in practice, (i still cant remember his name :( ). we will see. i do think AJ sucks, but i also think its a little to early to cut your losses and go for a FA who does not know the system.

LOL @ to Motivate him. I can assure you that isn't the case. It's the start of the regular season, he has dropped to 3rd string on the depth chart, how is it still a little early? You don't get to see him play on the bench anyway, and Sage had a very good preseason and quite a few Fin Fans wanted him to start over Gus.

You say you think he sucks, yet say it's too early to cut your losses? LOL! What if you think a FA that has more ability than him becomes available? Oh thats right, you would have to teach him the system, that AJ is using on the bench. LOL!

his drop on the depth chart could be for many reasons. but i do think its to early to cut him loose. i think he sucks, but i think that about all your QBs. that doesnt mean he wont be "improved" later.

aj is not "using"" the system on the bench. yes, but he WOULD be able to come in to the game and run the offense (the best he could) if there was a injury. a FA who came in now would only have a very basic understanding of the offense. the FA might be a great passer, or whatever, but he would be very limited in what plays they could run.

so say you sign Rohan. a good signing in my opinion, but he would not be able to start week 2. he would be the #3 guy. and not see any playing time till late in the season, and be able to compete next year for the starting job. if a few injuries happened, you would be screwed. and you would see 10 strait handoffs.

IF and i do mean IF you sign a FA, he would only be used in desperation this season, or at best compete next season for the job.

better to keep AJ, atleast untill the offseason.

All this talk of AJ sucking, but in the same paragraph lets bring in Couch or Davey. Is this logical thinking? We all know that AJ probably is running out of chances, but look at the chances that Couch has. He couldn't cut it in Cleveland and was released from the Packers. But he has to be better than AJ. Davey has done nothing and aside from the fact that he was just released must mean he is better than AJ. I'm not an AJ homer, I just want production out of our qb position. We have perhaps the most talented group of receivers to play together in a very long time and I don't want that talent not to be shown on the field due to an ineffective qb. Let's quit talking about bringing in more backup garbage and thinking it is better than what we have. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

Excellent well thought out post. Desperation is getting to us....if only our OL was stronger it might give some comfort but injury to a QB is always in the back of the mind.......

good post. you're not being emotional enough for some, though. maybe your post is a little too rational?

I have watched orlovsky play since last year. I pushed for him on draft day as he was relatively cheap. 5th round I believe. Now Mariuchi is in love with the kid and has promoted him to 2nd string with the injury to Garcia. After the Lions get beat the first 3-4 games (which they will because hey they are the lions) look for Orlovsky to replace the lions version of Aj feely only I think they call there bust qb herrrington. (by the way are these two tedford qbs from Oregon)

I think its funny a Bills fan trying to rationalize why we would trade Feeley for a low round draft choice after giving up a 2nd for him. Look what they did with Bledsoe after giving up so much for him?

He would be a better fit in any other offense but ours!
