I see a failure to properly place passes as to assist the receiver in catching it in stride and allowing for YAC. Many throws are behind guys or in a spot where they need to extend their bodies to catch the ball.
Poor down field passes where he could have lead a receiver to open field or scored..
I agree. This is my biggest concern with Tanny. Keep in mind though, a lot of times he can't lead his receiver due to a safety or another DB covering the gap. When Wallace blows the lid off the secondary, Tanny needs to throw to the open space and let him run to it. He has to trust his WRs and work on anticipating when they will come open.
Holding on to the ball too long, especially when facing a persistent pass rush. .
Repeatedly getting balls batted at the LOS..
I somewhat agree. it was more of a problem the last 2 years than I have seen this year, but this year has only just begun. I thought he did a good job of throwing the ball away if the play wasn't there in the NE game. Not so much in the Bills game.
The biggest problem was that our O-line was completely outmatched by the Bills. He had no pocket nearly all day. Having no ground game with Knowshon out made it easy for the Bills to rush on nearly every down.
Without much separation between him and the D-line, he will be hard-pressed to find a passing lane or be able to get the ball through without being tipped or blocked. Most NFL QBs would get the same results with the kind of protection he got against Buffalo.
Doesn't appear to have a good feel for oncoming pass rushers around him..
Again, when the pocket collapses 1 step into your back-peddle, you can't place the blame solely on Tanny. We had both tackles getting manhandled, guards getting pancaked, and unaccounted for pass rushers.
That said, he does need to do a better job at reading the blitz and unaccounted for pass rushers. I'm not sure how much liberty Philbin and Lazor give Tanny to audible, but he definitely needs to work on that. If they aren't letting him audible, they need to. If he can, he needs to do a much better job at it.
No ability to adjust delivery or acceleration of reads.
Poor touch on screen and outlet passes, couple balls completely over thrown to a receiver near the LOS..
I disagree with slow reads, I think he does a good job there, particularly when you consider the amount of time he has (or more accurately, doesn't have) to get rid of the ball.
I agree with his touch. He needs to work on his softer passes and putting more arc on some passes when there is coverage in front of his receiver. Not every pass needs to be thrown on a rope.
Doesn't do a convincing job selling that option play..
Yea, I'm not completely thrilled with that either. That said, if the defense doesn't respect our RB, the Playaction will be less effective. Missing Knowshon hurts.
He was basically under pressure constantly, bad showing by the o-line..
Agreed.
Tanny needs work, I don't think a soul on this board will deny that. But he isn't as bad as many believe. He can still develop into a very good QB. The season just started, lets see how he progresses. We will know where we stand with him by the end of the year.
