Ryan Tannehill's Deep Ball Hasn't Improved Since Texas A&M

Another long throw by Wilson is short. Pointed out by Aikman on the telecast.

Wilson's a good young QB. He has young QB problems. For instance, his much ballyhooed pocket presence/escapability really isn't. Andrew Luck is the guy from that class who can get out of trouble.

Kaepernick straight up blows. How many bonehead turnovers is that now? Four?

Wilson had a pretty meh game besides that beautiful td strike to Kearse. All the ballerina **** in the pocket is just for show, no need for it half the time.

Kaep just blows..

I think the 'eye test' alone is damning enough. Too many missed bombs even when there were no excuses. Those points left on the field flat out cost us ball games and brought our scoring average down. By the end of the year, he was overthrowing Wallace.

By the way, Brady had a key overthrow today too, and the first thing that came into my mind was "he Tannehill'd it".
Sad but true.

Does anyone have the statistical breakdown of Tannehill's deep passes to Wallace and to all other receivers? I would assume (just an assumption from watching the games, I have no statistical evidence to back this up) that it's much better going to Harline, Clay, etc. than passing to Wallace. I believe that not Tannehill is the problem but Wallace.

You'd have to throw the depth of the pass in there as a covariate. I suspect Tannehill's passes to Wallace are significantly farther downfield on average.

I think Wilson is a decent young QB also. Just pointing out that ALL QBs miss throws, especially the young ones. Without his running game and defense, he is not even a playoff QB. Same for Kaep. Both are largely a product of their teams.

Sure needed stats for this one

I don't think I would have ever noticed his deep ball ability without stats. Every time I saw him miss Wallace on a deep throw, I had to wait until after the game for the official stats to posts just to make sure what I saw actually happened. Without those stats, my bias and subjective viewing of the game could have caused me to hallucinate and think Tannehill actually connected on the deep pass.

How do we actually know that?

And you figure basing an appraisal of current play and a prediction of improvement on theory is any better? You believe his play was undermined by other facets of the team, and so it must be so?

Well so did you....just a few posts ago. You stated that if he does better it will be because of a new OC that set up the proper system for his strengths. So you too believe that his play was undermined by an outside factor, or your short term memory is not as good as your understanding of math equations.

By watching the game.

When the 9ers put the ball in Kaep's hands to go win it he had 3 turnovers on 3 drives.

Wilson has never had to carry his team at any point by his arm, so nobody actually knows that.

That is completely valid. Someone posted a video of all of his TD passes this year. Watch it. You don't need a stat sheet or a bunch of percentages to see that he hits the others almost perfectly most of the time but just cannot hit Wallace in stride. It was horrible all season. This speaks totally to chemistry. Just based on watching tape it appears that he just cannot judge Wallace's speed properly. The guy is amazing fast, but doesn't look like he's going as fast as he is.

People complain about Tannehill's pocket presence. Jesus, Kaep must be blind in his right eye and deaf in his right ear.

You're basing your appraisal of the responsibility for a quarterback's play on only one game in that example.

Wilson has never had to carry his team at any point by his arm, so nobody actually knows that.
My point exactly. We don't know how much to attribute Wilson's success to him or to his surroundings, yet the reply of mine you quoted was in response to the following:
