S Chris Clemons released, would like to have him back with Jones suspension

I would, he knows the system and at worst he adds good depth. No question that he's better than either of the guys that they just signed.
I expect that Ross and Seamster are actually competing for the one Special Teams role and both will arrive and get evaluated by Rizzi and Coyle. The better one will be chosen and the other will be discarded. Don't be surprised if someone like Damian Williams who made the roster and was cut, returns after the 2 new DBs are evaluated.
Clemons is solid and knows the system but if he comes back it will be at a veteran minimum $, with his tail between his legs. It's possible but I doubt that it happens. I think Coyle has a lot of confidence in Jimmy Wilson.

He would be an amazing bridge until Jones gets back from suspension, and it would allow Wilson to move nbak to the point where he is most effective. I really hope they try to get him, and soon, the Patriots are waiting for us.

What'd he do to get cut? He certainly isn't great, and he couldn't catch a cold if his life depended on it, but I always thought he was a solid player.

He is abslutely a solid player, he will rerely hurt you, even though he will at times take horrible angles while missing a key tackle or two, and of course he can't seem to make big plays, but he is a good defender with great speed...we really could use this guy.

I just had a horrible flashback to the near touchdown the Steelers scored against us as time expired last season.

Go back a little further to the game at the end of the season in NE when Brady disected our LB and the thought was there have to be better LB's out there. So Dansby and Burnett were let go and we have the LB's we have now. Im hoping we dont wish for the day we had Clemmons back. Yes we needed an upgrade but are we better at safety especially with Jones suspended the first four games?

Whoah, hang on. I didn't mind Clemons. I thought he was a solid, contributing part of a secondary that was fairly good last season. I wish we had kept him instead of going after Delmas.

But he's definitely had a few plays that made me say "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh noooooooooooooo!"

Ravens fans are laughing at the Dolphins for picking up Seamster. They know he can't play.

Why? It's not like Baltimore got anything from the deal or hosed Miami. This sort of thing happens every year. And if he can't play oh well, he's the 53rd guy on the team right now.

I'm not a big fan of Clemons. He's probably one of the most overrated players we've had in some time. I'm probably less surprised he was cut than most of you. But he knows our system and we're thin at S. Sure I'd sign him to cover the Jones suspension.

Clemons represents the Ireland days of playing not to lose, and having no playmakers.

Were beyond that, you cant win that way anymore. We don't need him back. We might give up some big plays, but mark my words, this year you'll see more big plays from this roster than you have in 10 years combined.

I think overrated is the wrong term. I don't think anybody ever really overrated him. When you play out a rookie deal, sign a short money deal to stay with Miami, and then sign another short money deal with the Texans to get cut . . . that is not overrating. Clemmons was steady and for a FS position that has seen the likes of Gibril Wilson and Cameron Worrell to name a few, he was a breath of fresh air that rarely let up a big play, even though he really never made any big plays either.

The problem with Clemmons was he made it difficult to move on to players with playmaking potential because often enough those players would have too many plays where they get beat deep to nullify any potential playmaking efforts they bring to the table. Even this year, I have very little doubt that we'll see Delmas/Wilson/Jones get beat for big plays more than Clemmons has given up in the past.

I'm surprised he was cut from Houston but at the same time I understood why Miami never resigned to begin with.

However, to me, this is a no brainer, the perfect veteran safety for this team, a guy who can play both positions and he knows the system. It allows you to move Jimmy Wilson back to the nickel where he was one of the best at that position last season and then your 2 2nd year CBs can back up Finnegan and Grimes.

Signing Clemmons pretty much solidifies this DB group while Jones is out and gives us real nice depth when he comes back.

Isn't Clemons a free safety while Jones is a strong safety? Who would play the strong safety position, Delmas or Clemons?

That's an interesting take and I agree with quite a bit of it. But aren't you overrating him even as you make the case that he isn't overrated? You say he's the perfect veteran safety for the team and solidifies our secondary. I believe Hickey's goal here was to aim higher. Which I admired since it is difficult to replace someone who isn't as blatantly awful as Cameron Worrell (btw any S we ever compare to him is going to come out favorably). But there's a point where the inability to make plays in a position where you're needed as a playmaker isn't just a missed opportunity but an actual detriment to the team. The teams in the league obviously don't overrate him considering he was just cut. But a segment of our fanbase overrated him, which many members of this board represent. The outcry that came from many members of our fanbase when we let him go. The consistent oohs and aahs that his aberrational pff ranking inspires. I've seen Clemons take enough bad angles and blow enough coverages that the inability to make plays isn't completely compensated for by his non-disastrous play.

The Jones suspension creates a difficult situation for the team and a Clemons signing would make a lot of sense because of it. But signing him doesn't necessarily improve or solve the S situation it would only keep it from potentially slipping into a major problem. Which I don't believe Coyle would allow regardless. Personally, I think the lack of a true FS is one of our biggest weaknesses. Clemons isn't the solution to that and even as a stopgap, I find him limiting towards this team's true potential. The goal is to move away from stopgaps. We've seen enough of Clemons to know he isn't the solution at S. Even just in a backup role, I would rather bring in another option that may have that potential.

I agree that one of them will take Don Jones old role on Special Teams. I would also like to see Damian Williams back because he has more experience as a kick returner than anyone else on the team. I would feel better with Clemons filling in at one of the safety spots until Reshad Jones is back while Jimmy Wilson moves back to his nickle role. However pride may get in the way on both sides and Clemons probably won't be back. Just hoping that whatever Hickey and the staff decides to do works out for the best.

I dont feel any vets will be signed until after our first game. I'm thinking this is true for most of the NFL...after the first game there will be a vet signing frenzy.
