Salguero: Ross will add franchise QB and superstar coach in 2012

Good article. It is funny that people say that Ross is not committed to winning. This article is great proof that he is indeed committed to winning and not the idiot/buffoon that some here think he is. I love what his preliminary plan appears to be, and I have said all along that he is likely to target one of the big three as head coach. Rumors seem to point to Gruden, but I hope he goes with Cowher.

As for the QB position, it is nice to see that Ross wants to finally end the question marks. What I think this means is that come April, Miami will be taking a 1st round QB. No more trades, no more free agent pickups, a "Franchise QB" means taking a chance on someone in the draft. Doesn't mean they will work out, but you have to hope they do. Whether it be Luck, Jones or Barkley and I think one of those guys will be in Miami in 2012.

Of course this is all preliminary because there is always the chance the 2011 team could run off a streak of wins and change the plans.

Don't rule out RG3

I'll wait to give Ross any credit until he actually follows through. Talk is cheap.

We could've had a jump on this and had this done a year ago.

IMO, a year ago, Harbaugh was using the Dolphins for leverage, and I don't think Gruden was ready to stop getting paid by Tampa Bay. It is just my opinion, but I don't think Ross is going to be interested in Cowher. He's a hell of a coach, but his style doesn't fit with what Ross wants.

What we don't need is another conservative coach. We need a coach who knows when to step on an opponents throat and keep the pedal to the floor. No more 80's offenses of run, run, run and throw short passes crap. We need a balanced offense. One that can run it as well as throw it. One that dictates the game and has weapons at all skill positions. We need a team that is physical, fast, disciplined and aggressive on both sides of the ball. Playmakers who step up on the big stage. We simply don't have those things.

Our owner is sucking for luck, the rest of you need to become realists. You don't look like a super fan for believing in this regime or rooting for wins instead of losses, you guys look ridiculous.

Where exactly did I say I believed in this regime? You're one of those that wants to argue so bad you just create a topic out of thin air. I want the FO changed and post that every chance I get. and you think I look ridiculous.......

No.
With all the lockout uncertainty no serious coaching candidate was going to jump into this mess. All respect for Harbaugh doing it in SF. Ross went after Harbaugh with everything, but came up a bit short.
Gruden and Cowher rightfully stayed out.

In the question between the Coaching Czar vs. GM Czar.
The coaching czar rarely works. The exception being Bill Bellichek.
BP failed in Dallas
Holmgren was generally unsuccessful in Seattle(one SB appearance nonwithstanding)
Saban failed here
Ditka in NO

The teamwork concept is generally much better.

Get me Russ Ball(GB VP) and let him build it from the ground up.

It will more than likely be Jon Gruden. All the signs and signals that are being sent it is that Ross is tired of the same old defense first, run the ball, manage the game from the quarterback position mentality. Well, that's the exact philosophy that Bill Cowher brings.

Jon Gruden is much more quarterback centric in his beliefs. He believes the team rises and falls with the play of the quarterback. He is also more likely to have a wide open, run and gun offense than Bill Cowher. I'm just curious to see who Jon brings on as GM. His guy is currently in Washington. A name I wouldn't rule out as GM is Mike Lombardi.

An interesting name, if true, given Lombardi has already said that in a normal draft he would consider Matt Barkley worthy of the #1 overall selection.

Barkley may not come out this year though

True. Barkley has said he wants his decision to be "easy." Meaning, he wants to be one of the top 2 quarterbacks taken and and selected high in the draft. Right now it seems a lot of people have Landry Jones ahead of him. If that continues, it appears he wouldn't come out.

He still has an incentive to come back next year when USC's Bowl game suspension is over if he's looking for something to accomplish, so it's not like there's some huge force pushing him into the pros. He's still only a true Junior.

But basically, yes. For him to come out it seems he'll need to feel confident about being a top 5 pick. Whether he's considered that is very much up to debate right now, IMO.

So no Gruden, and you think no Cowher. The only other "big name" left would be Jeff Fisher. Is that who you think Ross targets?

It's already been reported that Ross is interested in Cowher. He was contacted during the whole Harbaugh saga and indicated his preference to remain out of coaching for another year. It was recently reported (by Barry Jackson, I believe), that Cowher is very high on Ross' list going forward.
