Salguero: Ross will add franchise QB and superstar coach in 2012

I loved how he started the article
IN MY OPINION...

IN MY OPINION

Miami Dolphins’ Stephen Ross wants franchise QB, superstar coach to cure team’s ills

Throughout the article, he cites his source.

A highly placed club source

Music to my ears.

The fact that Ross figured out Orton wasn't worth it and not Ireland is telling. Recently ive questioned if Ross understands this sort of business. Apparently he does. If this report is true, i will gladly eat my crow.

Clearly he is interested in creating a buzz in order to sell tickets. But, getting a franchise quarterback is the quickest way to win on top of selling tickets. Works for me.

Ross could go from zero to hero with a couple nice moves. A new GM and coach drafting our future star QB and filling the stands with hopeful fans. Even if he knows squat about football from a business point of view this is his only smart move.

Wayne Huizenga's heart was always in the right place but his mind often wasn't.

This report, if true, tells me both Ross's heart and his mind are in the right place. It's taken a while. There's been a learning curve. But he might finally have gotten it.

I had been worried about previous reports that said he thought the team was talented and wanted to keep Ireland if possible. It's in his best interest to believe that because it would mean, in theory, a shorter rebuild and the application of band-aid fixes that have left our roster looking like Frankenstein's monster.

Every owner wants to believe their team is close, and what this tells me is that he's coming to the realization -- if he hasn't already -- that we aren't. That a complete rebuild is necessary. And that to achieve that rebuild we need a superstar at quarterback. I'm not as enamored with the "superstar coach" thing. I think if you look back at history you can find those guys without having to hire retreads. But sometimes those retreads do work out, especially if they find a way to get a superstar at quarterback.

It all comes down to having the #1 pick. If we have that pick, we're going to be alright no matter what happens. Unfortunately we seem to have plenty of competition.

Just because it is something we want to hear doesn't mean I trust the story. Armando has tried to pass myth as factual information, via a source, several times before. Until I see action I am skeptical of all reports that come from that organization.

That said, if in fact Ross did put the kyebash (?) on the Orton deal and recognizes the need for an actual franchise QB not a back up disguised as one, he may as well fire Ireland and Sparano mid season and run the team himself. For a guy who admitted he has little knowledge of football operations he is showing that he is wiser then the alleged "football minds" in charge.

OMG this thread mentions Andrew Luck.....To the SUPER DUPER Thread it goes.

Ross down with SFL

hell yeah, first thing ive read regarding ross that ive actually liked

I think the reason why Mike Dee leaked this info to Armando was the fact that Barry Jackson wrote an article last week that mentioned Jeff Ireland as safe and Dee and Ross are trying to set the record straight. No one will be safe unless there is a miraculous turnaround led by journeyman backup Matt Moore.

Good god that is nice to hear.

However, I don't like that he's so set on a big name head coach.. not always the right choice

imo i sure dont want a rookie young guy that is hungry , because i can be hungry (everybody wants to win) just dont mean that a young hungry coach will take us anywhere ? im not willing to take a chance with one of those guys, im willing to take my chances with a guy that has had suscess , imo a coach isnt going to come bk just to be coming bk to coach if he isnt hungry, imo if he takes the job one of the BIG 3, then im going to say that there hungry or they wouldnt be coming bk.

I'm just saying he shouldn't only keep his options restricted to the big name coaches that have been commonly discussed here. always gotta keep the options open. never know who will come free.

did you read the article? He wants to hire a football person to run the show. Whether it be a coach who puts his guys around him to run the show. Or a football guy to be president to run the show.

ROSS GETS IT!! I didn't think he did, if this article/source is TRUE, then Ross does get it!! No more on the job training. And QB is priority 1,2,3,4,and 5. Nothing else matters till you fix that position! ROSS GETS IT!!!

Of course he does. He always has.

Just so long as his idea of a "franchise QB" isn't Carson Palmer, or for that matter trading for a Sam Bradford, Kevin Kolb, Blaine Gabbert or Christian Ponder if any of their teams actually win the SFL Derby. (well, maybe Bradford, we'll see)

Regardless, give me Cowher an HC who's proved he can work with and bring the best out in new young QBs and everything else will fall into place eventually. Don't give me an Andy Reed who IMO needs a few seasons on the shelf to self-reflect and decompresss.
