Saturday evening Dolphin chatter

So in other words you have no argument besides vague generalities... Again, I didn't like the Thomas 2011 or 2012 film, and there really isn't any 2013 film of note. When you have an actual, at least semi-specific opinion, let me know. Other than that this discussion is a waste of time.

I never said I did, how can I have an argument one way or another if I haven't seen him play in a year? I am surprised that a person with two advance degrees does have one so specific without having all of the evidence.

Have you seen him play much in the last four years? From I've seen from you so far, I doubt it, and that makes this conversation, again, a waste of time.

Waste of time, but we are bonding...

There isn't enough film to really form an opinion. Your footage you posted is about as new as we can get and it is just to old to truly evaluate. Your talking out of your ass just as much as you claim I am. I am basing my comments off of real experts that I have read and reviewed. I don't know why you are taking this so personally, we simply disagree on the player. I compare the skill set of Dallas Thomas to that of Zach Martin. Both were effective tackles at the college level and both will be guards in the pros due to short arms. The difference is Zach martin was picked in the 1st round and we got Dallas in the 3rd.

You are so full of crap. That, and you're plain ignorant as to the topic that you're trying to engage. The Thomas footage was 2011, posted by me FOR A REASON, but there's no shortage of 2012 Dallas Thomas film out there. Take you pick:

You have the balls to say that I'm talking out of my ass when I'm stating my opinion based on quite a bit of film that I've watched, while you are basing your comments "off of real experts that I have read and reviewed". Really? And as if that wasn't embarrassing enough, then you show your ass completely by saying this:

"I compare the skill set of Dallas Thomas to that of Zach Martin. Both were effective tackles at the college level and both will be guards in the pros due to short arms. The difference is Zach Martin was picked in the 1st round and we got Dallas in the 3rd."

Wow. And I'm talking out of my ass by commenting on a player I actually watched a good amount of film on? And you're for all intents and purposes equating Dallas Thomas and Zack Martin? Thank you for confirming that you have no idea what you're talking about, at all. Try wiping yourself with one of these the next time comments that bad come dribbling out of you:

Keep it civil guys. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Well one of them is going to be a good backup.i hope........

Nope, they both start. Turner will be better than Brenner or Garner, and Shelly is a backup at best, or extra GL tackle. Thomas and Turner are the day one starters at OG.

This is the third time you have complained that this conversation was a "waste of time". Just stop posting then, or quit your bitching. One or the other would be fantastic.

I am a huge Notre Dame fan and have seen a lot of Zach Martin over the past 3+ years, I am happy we didn't draft him as he won't be a tackle in the NFL due to arm length. You are throwing insult after insult out here for a player who's last film you admit to watching is from 2012. I wouldn't be questioning this if it was the end of training camp or even during the 1st couple weeks of the year because we can see how much if any he has improved, but you are basing all of this off tape that is 2012 and older.

Like I said, you very well may be right about all of this, but none of us have any idea of how much he has progressed in the last year as we have no way of knowing due to him never being on the field.

I will stand by my Zach Martin comment as I have seen an awful lot of his play and just can't see why he was drafted so high. Feel free to call me out on it if I am wrong, just was never impressed with what I saw in college, never seemed overly dominant.

I am actually curious if Brenner makes the team or not, I love Tyler Larsen out of Utah State and from what I have heard out of the OTA's so far, Brenner has been struggling with his snaps. I am quite curious to see how this battle goes going into training camp.

Larsen was rated draftable and the # 5 or 6 center so he might be a factor as well. He could be in the mix at guard.

I like the Misi move, it matches his physical skill set and we'll see if he rises to the challenge mentally. A bigger, more physical presence in the middle and he was a solid but less than dynamic OLB. Would have been better if Dion Jordan was moved to his OLB spot, but I like the comments I've read from the coaching staff about expanding his 3rd down role and taking advantage of what makes him special, a rare ability to both pass rush and cover at what I think will prove to be very high levels.

Dallas Thomas- I still don't get him, at all. I see a pedestrian pass blocker and an average at best run blocker. If he and Tiny Richardson came out in the same draft I'd draft Richardson, microfracture and all, over Thomas and not think twice about it. If Billy Turner can't beat out Dallas Thomas, that will be just sad, regardless of how raw Billy Turner is. At least Tiny Richardson is huge and dominates at times, granted there are holes in his game that others pointed out, besides the microfracture. I've looked at a pretty good amount of Dallas Thomas tape and I see NOTHING that says anything other than backup at best, swing OG/OT player at the bottom of the roster. I've tried to like him as a player, and every time I look at the tape again disappointment sets in. He has decently quick feet, that's about it. Judge for yourself:

I still think that Trai Turner would have been a great fit, would have loved to see him in a Fins uniform.
I couldn't disagree more. Watch Dallas playing OT instead of OG where he will be as a NFL player and he was still much more in control, balanced and steady than the guy on the other side that is projected to be our starting RT. Dallas easily slid to the 2nd level and was very aware of the play timing. Watch how he cut the DE on the quick slant to keep his hands down, close to the end of the game. I loved the pick when we made it and have high hopes that he can be a solid player for a long time. To be honest I see a higher ceiling for Dallas than I do James. I think in 3/5 yrs we will look back and say Dallas was a better LG than James was a RT. JMO

i wasn't aware Dallas had a shoulder issue last year. Did we draft ANYONE who was not injured ?

Anyways if he steps up it would be great. If not we have Turner so lets just see how it plays out.

Don Jones was the only draft pick I am aware that did not have a injury at least 2 year in college before we drafted him last year and that included the kicker from Florida. Don Jones came from a small college so he may of had issues that were not known,

Or you can, of course, get bent.

I strongly disagree, no way does Thomas have a higher ceiling than James. I like James, don't love him as a RT, but he is significantly better than Thomas in run blocking and pass pro, bottom line.

The last Dallas Thomas film of note is 2012, he was injured and barely played for Miami on 2013. When he did play, he sucked. As to Zack Martin, people love throwing out that arm length nugget when in fact his arms are all of one inch shorter than 6-7 Taylor Lewan. Zack Martin would make a fine Tackle or Guard, and imo comparisons made to Dallas Thomas are born out of ignorance.
