Saturday evening Dolphin chatter

Or you can, of course, get bent.

I am actually curious if Brenner makes the team or not, I love Tyler Larsen out of Utah State and from what I have heard out of the OTA's so far, Brenner has been struggling with his snaps. I am quite curious to see how this battle goes going into training camp.

I kinda feel the same way about Shelly. Unless he is on the team for GL and short yardage only, I really don't see a place for him. He certainly isn't starter material, and Garner is a better more flexible backup. I like Brenner over Shelly, but it's close.

Im just happy we actually have some depth going into training camp. Lots of potential, cant wait to see who comes out on top

That is the last Dallas Thomas film of note is 2012, he was injured and barely played for Miami on 2013. When he did play, he sucked. As to Zack Martin, people love throwing out that arm length nugget when in fact his arms are all of one inch shorter than 6-7 Taylor Lewan. Zack Martin would make a fine Tackle or Guard, and imo comparisons made to Dallas Thomas are born out of ignorance.

Dang, did you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed, or WHAT?? Zach Martin and Dallas Thomas is actually a pretty good comparison if you just watch their last year in college. Dallas is a little better in pass pro, and getting to the 2nd level, but Martin was slightly more polished, but both are quite similiar.

Zack Martin and Dallas Thomas is a terrible comparison, and saying that Dallas Thomas is better in pass pro is ridiculous.

I've said the same thing (about Thomas and Tuner both ending up starters)...right now it looks like RG is Shelly's job to lose, but I think that will eventually happen. Shelly will stay with the team as a swing guard and possibly as a 3rd tackle on GL.

"This conversation is a waste of time!"

*posts furiously and angrily in thread*

i wasn't aware Dallas had a shoulder issue last year. Did we draft ANYONE who was not injured ?

.

The good news is we essentially have 14 new players this season. If Tannehill takes a big step up and we hit on just 4 or 5 of the newbies we could have a pretty good team.

that is the bright side of the whole situation and reason for hope

I am a huge Notre Dame fan and have seen a lot of Zach Martin over the past 3+ years, I am happy we didn't draft him as he won't be a tackle in the NFL due to arm length. You are throwing insult after insult out here for a player who's last film you admit to watching is from 2012. I wouldn't be questioning this if it was the end of training camp or even during the 1st couple weeks of the year because we can see how much if any he has improved, but you are basing all of this off tape that is 2012 and older.

Like I said, you very well may be right about all of this, but none of us have any idea of how much he has progressed in the last year as we have no way of knowing due to him never being on the field.

I will stand by my Zach Martin comment as I have seen an awful lot of his play and just can't see why he was drafted so high. Feel free to call me out on it if I am wrong, just was never impressed with what I saw in college, never seemed overly dominant.

I agree with your general take on Martin. I don't think he has the right combination of strength and athleticism to succeed at either OT spot in the NFL. I do think he has the tools to play OG, but he has very little experience at OG, so I did not view him as a top 32 player.

Dallas Thomas and Zach Martin comparison makes zero sense...neither does any d Thomas moves better to the 2nd level than Martin does stuff looking at the tape...complete whiff

That said Dallas Thomas tape screams guard I have no idea why they tried that at tackle pretty strange cause billy turners tape screams tackle and we are gonna force that at guard initially at least

Zach Martin plays in space which much better technique and foot work than Dallas Thomas did...ones got tackle potential right tackle specifically in a pinch despite less than ideal tackle measurables the other must play in a phone booth...

This threads a trip...Dallas Thomas would have never gotten to Sean lee on that Dallas ota play...
