Schefter: Fins zeroing in on Kubiak, Shanhan, or McAdoo for OC

1. Kubiak - proven
2. Shanahan - semi proven
3. McAdoo - unknown

If we are somehow lucky enough to land Gary Kubiak as our new OC I will do cartwheels. And then send Mike Sherman a thank-you note for convincing his friend Gary to take the job.

Kubiak is absolutely phenomenal. You will see a totally different Ryan Tannehill, in terms of production, under his offense.

I'll do cartwheels. CARTWHEELS.

My biggest concern with kubiak ... well two actually .... are 1) how's his health and 2) how long does he stay here before he takes another HC job?

1. Good question. That is my only concern as well. I don't know. My understanding is that if he monitors it carefully and takes care of himself, it's something that can be managed. I'm absolutely not an expert on strokes, but I'll ask someone who is later this week.

2. If you're worried about that, that ain't a worry.

Kubiak. Then sign Ben Tate. Please and thank you.

Actually, I want Kubiak and NOT Ben Tate. Tate is a fumbler and Kubiak has a long history of turning scrapheap RBs into very productive players. Find someone on the cheap or draft a guy, rather than throwing money at an overrated free agent.

Tate is going to be a huge bust for someone next year playing in someone else's offense.

no shanny...rg3 is telling everyone he wants to play in a pro system which will fail cause he cant read the field but shanny stuck with the read option despite all that contact in 2012...and i was thinking it was because of rg3...sounds like it was more shannys doing

no thanks

I hear ya, but a question I pose is, was it Shanahan's doing because he knew RG 3rd and long would fail in more of a pro system? We saw this year what happened when he couldn't run and defenses didn't have to respect that threat. He was horse ****. I also don't believe a damn word that comes out of Bob's mouth either. He will do anything to deflect blame from himself.

I would be impressed with Joe if he selected Kubiak....mark it down...I complimented Philbin.

Kubiak could be looked at as threat to his job. Being a successful HC in his own right, Kubiak could replace Philibin easily during the season. However, Philbin would feel comfortable enough and have the resolve to still have him on staff.

I like how Kubiak and Shanahan RUN THE BALL. They are committed to the run and always produces nice running games.

if they thought about what rg3's game was or needed to be they should have never traded to #2 for him in the first place...i'm sure kyle had to play with what he was given but i dont care it wouldnt have taken me 3 weeks of contact on my new qb rg3 to decide we aren't running him as much...they just kept doing it and all that contact caught up with them come playoff time when he was a physical shell of himself...

he's not doing it to my qb...if tannehill wasn't a good athlete i wouldn't worry about it as much but he can play that same game with tanny he did with rg3 and that for me is the problem...

no doubt rg3 is gonna blow in a read the field stand in the pocket and deliver system...but it's all they got left if he's to have any shelf life...pretty much why i said i wouldnt draft him to begin with...no shelf life game built to contact never last in the pros...can't read the field...one read qb

Gary Kubiak and Mike Sherman are friends. Sherman got his start under Kubiak and -- this is kinda funny -- Sherman was Kubiak's OC in Houston in 2007, and Houston was REALLY good on a points per possession basis that year, by the way. REALLY good. I posted in that original thread about Kubiak some of the reasons why I think he's absolutely fantastic -- one of the very best. The idea that Kubiak has been carried by great talent is patently false. Gary Kubiak has taken all types of players, from Hall of Famers to straight up bums, and made them better. He got the most out of Elway and he turned Jake Plummer into a damn Pro Bowler.

Anyway, I heard that the Dolphins actually offered Sherman a 'promotion' within the team because they wanted to get him out of the OC position but didn't want to fire him. Sherman refused, but my feeling is that he possibly now trying to help Joe, Taylor, and Turner by getting Kubiak involved.

All I can say is, if we wind up hiring Gary, somebody get me Mike Sherman's home address so I can send him a fruit basket.

I'll take Kubiak because he can bring his staff with him, ousting our current coaches like Jim Turner and Zac Taylor.

if you get kubiak you better get some athletes on the oline or they will stampede anything wide we try to do like a hurd of elephants from the inside

i think kubiak poses too much of a threat to philbin with a new gm and only a 2nd year coach right now...i would think he'd go with mcadoo as a safer decision for himself...but we will see

Who of the 3 is best at play calling? We need to turn a major deficiency into a strength. Sherman was very predictable.
Wonder if they are asking each of the candidates how to vary the Go, Go Go calls to help develop Tannehill, not to mention Defenses keying off the Pouncey head turns.
I like the sound of McAdoo, but timing is perfect for Shanahan after going through pure hell working for his Dad and coaching a major diva QB who dictates to the owner. Kyle Shanahan was a decent OC before he went to Washington. Downside with Kubiac is if he is if he has sufficient hunger, coming off a terrible year in Houston.

The one thing that could get me really, really optimistic for 2014 would be a good looking OL overhaul and Kubiak as our new OC.

Tannehill will be a pro bowler if that happens. Go ahead and put that in your sig. If the Miami Dolphins manage to hire Gary Kubiak as the OC and can field a competent offensive line, Ryan Tannehill will be a Pro Bowler.
