Second Guessing Hickey?

It surely has, as the "options" I listed were not signed. That's a HUGE difference. Strieff, Wharton, Deitrich-Smith, Penn, or Clabo were not signed. My opinion changed because we did not sign any of them, as it should.

Yes, they should be there as well, and who knows which vets will be late cuts on the OL after the draft, with many OT's about to be taken. My concerns are now less with adding a boy named Shelly. lol

lol....

UOTE=Spesh;1065055957]Could you provide proof for that assertion? Im asking genuinely. If there was no way to sign any of the other free agents and the only option was to overpay Branden Albert, i will change my opinion on the matter. Right now, it seems like we paid upwards of $10 million more for a player who is older, more injury prone, and less talented then the players other teams signed.[/QUOTE]

I'm saying Albert was the best guy on the market. You might disagree but that's my opinion. Less talenTed is not true i know that much. Injury prone is also overstated. When was he injured last year?

Finheaven is the only place you will find people saying that Branden Albert wasn't the best available LT on the market this year.

And he isn't being paid $10 million per year either.

You are more focused on dollars than you are the player, and that's where GM's will get into trouble. Just because someone is cheaper does not mean they are a better fit.

Even if you were just grading him on dollars, all of our signings were at or under market value with the exception of Finnegan - mostly because we don't know what demand for him was.

Not true. I listed the dollars with the players as both matter in today's NFL, and it gave posters a more complete picture to discuss. As to the players, Albert may be better than Collins, not sure. Asamoah is way better than Shelly as a complete player, and legit starter and fit. Verner over Finnegen is not even close. Others are debatable.

You assume those players even wanted to play in Miami....

Why do you care if the Phins "overpaid"?....they have the cap room, he was one of the 3 best LT available and he wanted to play in Miami and he filled a position of need.

Because the money we spend towards one player doesnt go to another. The best teams in the league use all their resources in the best way possible. I want the Dolphins to copy their model. Im tired of .500 records, i want a Superbowl.

Fair enough. And Eugene Monroe, in my opinion, was the most talented tackle on the market. And Albert hyperextended his knee last year, left the game early and missed 3 other starts. Of his 5 years in the league, hes started all 16 games exactly once.

The time to judge what Hickey's done this off season is after the draft. Since I don't know their board i'll wait till afterwards to grade all the off season moves.

So far i like resigning Grimes and Starks. Getting a top tackle was a good move although Albert was expensive he was one of the top three available so that's ok.
Like Mitchell to replace Big Paul. Would have gone Blount over Moreno. Don't care for Delmas or Finnegan.

I see no contradiction, as the team has not signed any of my options. Every Phan should change his thoughts based on things changing. It's the smart thing to do.

Aside from picking on me today, do you have an actual opinion? lol

Arthritic Mitchell over Big paul? Albert over Monroe? I don't see it..Sorry. No doubt Blount would be more valuable then Moreno.. Hickey Rules!!!! Hopefully he shows up for the draft...

Sound post SB. I definitely put Albert in the top echelon available with Monroe nd Veldheer, but I would put him a close 3rd. His pass protection may be the best but not by a large margin. He has about half the prime years available that Veldheer and Monroe have left judging by injuries and age. We overpaid by a large amount a guy who lives in Miami already.

I don't have a problem at all with the player. He is good, a good fit, and a good citizen. Those are the types I like. But, all 3 of that top echelon of LT were those three things. In negotiation, we fixated on him and got fleeced a bit.

I'm not against taking a flyer on Courtland Finnegan, but 5.5M is no flyer! Alterraun Verner was almost a sure thing top CB, and could be had for less.

I'm on record as not liking Shelley Smith because he is a terrible pass protector.

I think we will miss Paul Soliai, and Mitchell is just another gap penetrator putting a lot more pressure on our MLB to dominate physically against the run while constantly shedding blocks. None of our current LB's can do that.

Thus far I'm not overly impressed with Hickey, but we have secured some good talent and I will reserve judgment until after the draft.

I don't blame Dennis for Albert. We had to sign solid players quick. I absolutely hate what we did with the DB's. Courtland and Delmas are neither very good. I think we downgraded and are gonna pay more money than we were before. Agree that enough was not done on the o-line. I'm happy with Grimes and all of the DL moves. Moreno is fine as well. We should have concentrated more on our needs and not been dicking around with the DB's. Not near as pressing as OL,LB,RB,S. I must say I'm not very pleased at the moment but a great draft could change that in a second.

Not true. Almost everyone had Monroe at #1, and then it got to a choice of risk/reward between Veldheer, Collins and Albert.
