A couple thoughts:
1) There are those who simply will NOT change their opinion.
Do I have unshakable faith in Tannehill? No. But there have been enough signs, enough plays, and signs of his potential blossoming that we optimists are going to say "We're not moving on from Tannehill yet."
Likewise, there are those who simply will not be swayed by signs, plays, and potential. They're going to say, "I hate Tannehill," because they want results. Now.
2) This is a pivotal year for Tannehill.
Duh.
That aside, I understand the frustration of the "results now" crowd. The "results now" crowd doesn't want to hear that the Dolphins drafted a developmental QB with a completely unprecedented path as a first-round potential franchise QB. Here's the problem: The Dolphins drafted a developmental QB with a completely unprecedented path as a first-round potential franchise QB. It's not Tannehill's fault for being who and what he is, but his inexperience is costing the team.
This year, it looks as though he's being put in a great position to succeed. He's had two years to adjust to being a QB at the NFL level, and there needs to be more results on offense, better decision making, and hopefully...more wins. He need to take a step forward in leading this offense, or next year's 1st round pick should be a QB.
Note the "hopefully": If anyone wants to start a "The QB needs to win, no matter what," argument, feel free to start a separate thread, and we'll go round and round all you want. Because the QB does not play defense. And this year's defense scares the crap out of me. I saw enough games during the Marino era that were lost 45-38. I don't need any more of those.
3) This has very little to do with on-field performance, but good God is Tannehill easy to root for. I don't think I've wanted an individual player to succeed more than Tanny since Yatil Green coming of his first knee injury. I'm hoping this one turns out better. He's a great teammate, does and says all the right things, and seems to be universally liked and respected. Regarding his leadership, it's difficult to tell...because there isn't just one type of leadership. Not every leader gets in your face and screams. Those seeking that from Tanny are going to be severely disappointed, I think.
