Shemar Stewart

If we’re trading down to 16 I’m taking a serious look at Zabel or Banks in that range, but adding a second gives us more flexibility. Regardless I dont see us taking Grant. I don’t know why people think he is a first round talent. I genuinely just do not see it. He’s not an anchor 0 technique DT. He’s a quickness/finesse player walking around in the body of an anchor DT. His strengths project to 3-4 DE and passing down DT, and while I think he could be fine in that role there are players ahead of him who would give us a lot more. Harmon would be my guy for that skill set and we could come back and get Collins in the second AND a starting guard in this scenario. I honestly think Grant will be available at 98.
Yeah I would prefer Harmon but think Grier might take Grant. Two weeks to go.

I would rate Stewart and McMillan as the two most polarizing non-QBs in this draft. Both of them have Hall of Fame upside, as well as major bust potential.

Whoever takes these two have cajones of steel.

PFF loves Stewart as a run defender. 4th highest Edge run defense grade. Mike Green and Landon Jackson are 1 and 2. Number 3 is Brice Bass of Texas St who I know nothing about.
39 total pressures in 315 pass rush snaps isn't good for an Edge, but if you consider him as a hand on the ground DE in a 3-4, as we generally use, then it's not bad.

I've been extremely high on him for just this reason. We've needed a young big-edge for a couple of years now. Since Ogbah's back injuries began, we just haven't had a guy who could play run AND pass well... forcing us to platoon more than I would have liked; platooning gives the offense a clear sign as to what they can do against us.

The question on Stewart is whether or not he can become a high sacks guy, and I do think this is why he lost weight and came into the combine with the goal of showing the world what he could do in that area, after A+M used him poorly throughout his tenure there.

If he goes back to 280, which we both expect, he can play 3-4 end on running downs, and 4-3 DT on passing downs, and become a true 3 down player.

I've readily admitted that he is a major bust risk, and I've said that from the beginning. If he could become our starting DE and get 7-8 sacks per year, he'd be a gift... if he could reach double figures, he'll be a star,

Even steel can fail. - LOL
