Should Ireland and/or Philbin be Fired?

Who, if anyone, should be fired?

Just a reminder that only a month ago, 45% of the 290 people who responded to this poll thought Joe Philbin should be fired. :)

but why? Are you ok with hitting the reset button already? When the next regime comes in, how long til you want to hit reset again? Half a season?

It's the me me, my my, I want now I want now crowd. In 4 years they'll be doing it again.

If they finish 7-9 or 8-8 yes. 9-7 or 10-6 they can stay, as long as the investigation didn't find anything damning...

I still don't like our long term prospects with this duo, regardless of how this season ends though. Hope they prove me wrong

awesome ass pic!!

Depends on their performance, obviously. If they continue the tradition of not making the playoffs, bye bye after the second year.

yea, thats more or less what i meant...how many years without a seed in the playoffs. I think two years is too short....but I've always had 3 years as a standard. So when Philbin was hired, i thought to myself 'ok this dude has 3 years to veer this ship in the right direction'. to me, so far so good.

Philbin does a lot of things I really like: he's a trend setter not a follower which is a great quality to have. I read he is the only head coach in the NFL to employ tracking software which has already resulted in a few interesting discoveries and is the reason we have Thursdays off this season. I guarantee every team in the league will be utilizing this software in the near future. He's calm under pressure. He realizes how valuable timeouts are, especially in the second half. Game/clock management impeccable. The offense is lined up and ready to go generally with 10-20 seconds on the play clock every play, this is a sign of great preparation. Despite what some others think I believe we stay aggressive even with leads late in games.

Lets not forget he is a first time head coach and WILL make some mistakes, the timeout he called giving the Jets a second chance at a field goal never happened again. I guarantee he'll never try another 52 yard field goal in those terrible conditions on 4th and 2 again.

Things I don't like: Losing record last season is never a good sign. Still not winning enough at home and I'm not seeing any evidence he's attempting to take advantage of our home field advantage--the heat. Losing to the Bills at home after a bye with a 4th string QB is pretty lolbad. Announcing to the press things like we don't run into 8 man fronts and we don't want Tannehill to be a running QB is not good (although this could easily be gamesmanship).

I'd like to complain about the rookies not playing enough but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he knows what he's doing because a lot of our younger players/second year players have really taken big strides this season under Philbin and co (except Martin ldo).

Ireland has been too hit or miss with his acquisitions and roster moves. He lands some great players like Brent Grimes, Dion Jordan, and Brandon Gibson, which gets many fans excited, but he also has a habit now of failing to address fundamental team needs appropriately. Last year it was the WR corp and CB's. Now this year it's the O-Line which has only just recently began holding it's own 3/4 through the season, on the verge of too little too late in the playoff race. This is not how you maintain a playoff caliber team year by year. Not every unit can be perfect, but you can't afford to leave whole units of your team with ho-hum talent and late-round/FA fliers, especially if they're crucial for the schemes your coaches are implementing.
