So how does it work now w/ Ireland? Does he get another 4 yr term like the President?

I think he is more secure then you think.
Doubt it. Fair or not, Ireland's future is tied to fan interest. The team currently has 30K season tickets sold(lowest since before Don Shula's arrival), and signings Tyrell Johnson, Artis Hicks, and Richard Marshall hardly generate interest(spare me the marshall youtube videos and arizona DC defensive mvp quotes, nobody cares).

I suspect Ireland will need an unlikely playoff win this season to keep his job.

a playoff win?! Lmao he's a dead man walking then.

as much as I wish that were true, I think he is more secure than that.

Well, I see it's pretty easy to blame all the things that are bad on Irish...That's the nature of the beast, despite the fact that most of the criticism is for the most part, baseless... Last year, everyone blamed Sparano after all he led us to an 0-7 mark...Oh, but then he led this team on 6-2 run before he was given a vote of confidence at 9:00am and then fired at 1:00pm the same day. Quitcells name keeps coming up in this equation as well. He had his thumb under Ireland and Sparano...Sparano lost his job because of it and Irish is the next bullseye because of it. Nevermind that he didn't have final say on personnel moves until last year. Nevermind that Quitcells over-rode at least a couple of moves that we know of, that turned into busts. Nevermind that he left Irish and Sparano with the job half done... That's typical Quitcells and he gets no blame for anything that happened in the 3 yrs he was here... Sparano is gone, we have a new first time HC with new offensive and defensive schemes, half the personnel may or may not fit, so what he did last year may or may not count, but you all seem to think he should be fired for this ?? I don't get it...

We'll see.

our only threat at receiver was just traded for a couple of mid round picks,
our o-line, which allowed the 2nd most sacks in team history, doesnt appear to get improved
the best part of the team, the defense, is now inexplicably going to a new scheme which will eventually require new personell
out top offensive playmaker has a penchant for missing long stretches of seasons
our coach and FO has essentially admitted we're rebuilding after a colossal failure of an attempt at landing Peyton Manning
all this after 4 offseasons of one rebuild followed by, now, another.
and now, a increasingly disinterested fanbase pinning the blame for our last 5 years of purgatory on the only figure left from our last failed regime.

So much wrong with this post...wouldnt know where to being. Not the point of the thread though, so just going to chuckle and move on.

yes 2012 will be another losing season...and yes ireland if he takes tannehill in the draft gets a pass for it...

In all likelihood he will have this season and possibly next season. I think he needs the team to be competitive and make the playoffs this season or just miss it. He can't say this team is rebuilding, in my opinion, he was retained because he sold Ross on the idea this team had talent, but this team was underachieving. He needs a winning record at the very least; 6-10 or 7-9 will not cut it.

Tannehill would be a complete waste as a 1st round pick because he'd be holding the clipboard

I had better not be in front of the TV if we draft Tannehill because I will destroy it by throwing it into the street.

Dolphins fan: "If Ireland doesn't draft a quarterback of the future, he needs to be fired. All the great teams pick quarterbacks in the first round, so we should also. Anything else is useless garbage."

*Dolphins draft Tannehill, the third best QB in the draft and projected 1st round pick*

Dolphins fan: "Ireland is a clown, how could he waste a first round pick on Tannehill? God, why hasn't he been fired yet? Let's stage another embarrassing protest outside the Davie offices."

Is that pretty much the mindset of the anti-Ireland crowd? Yep.

Will be? What makes you so certain? Have you seen the 2012 opponents? Do you remember the 6-3 finish? Do you remember that Sparano is gone, who everyone blamed for the results last season? Miami has just as good a chance to have a winning season as they do a losing season. Don't assume things are going to fail, unless you are hoping they do.

Leave it to a newbie, not even to know that Ireland has not run the team for the past 4 years. Bogus thread for lack of credible information at the top. (much like this country) Only Dolphans would fight over this yet again. (see line 2)

I dont think the protest was embarrassin i think that we have had three straight losing seasons because of these clowns is embarrasing. The fact that Ireland has helped assemble this team and staff makes him quite culpable for the results. Sparano, Ross , Ireland and the players all share quite a bit of blame and people acting like Irleand has done such a good job here is quite absurd to this point

Can we see how this season plays out before overly crucifying or praising Ireland or at least get thru the draft!?!? :bobdole:

team isnt that screwed up. our QB WAS GARBAGE. what dont people understand??

The same people always saying "QB most important" "qb we need a qb"

are the same people blaming ireland and every player on this team etc. for our losing seasons.

dude - parcells/ireland/sparano and some of our current core guys won the ddarn AFC east in their first year with Penny.

HENNE IS HORRIBLE.

horrible in the red zone, horrible with pressure, horrible with mistakes, horrible leader etc etc etc.

Henne handicapped this team horribly. i bet if moore started at the begining of last year we would have been at least 9-7.

let see how they do this year - but honestly its gettind redundant and old. we have some seriously solid guys on this roster and we can compete any day with any team even with a bone head of a game-day coach for 3 years. Ross hasnt fired ireland b/c the football people both around the league and close to Ross say hes the right guy. Not b/c he gives a damn what fans think about "cleaning house" and what "should have happened"

i swear this board has been so horribly lately i only come here for news and to unleash my fury on ppl, b/c its so easy at every turn with all the whining and redundant crap that is thrown around this place. how many friggen ireland complaining posts can we really produce? i mean ENOUGH already.
