So how does it work now w/ Ireland? Does he get another 4 yr term like the President?

I cant wait for the 2013 offseason. Not because the inevitably losing season will be behind us, but because the excuses should be damn entertaining.

"How is it Irelands fault?!?! He doesnt have full control! He answers to Ross so its not his fault! If Jeff Ireland was owner, this team would never lose!"

"Were going to have a losing season? How is that even POSSIBLE!?!? The schedule is so much easier then last year and we are a better team!"

"How is it Irelands fault that we need a quarterback when Philbin refused to play Garrard? Now that Garrard has a full season on the bench to learn the system, he is totally going to take this team to the playoffs. We dont need to draft a quarterback because they can bust!"

"You cant fire Ireland, we could do so much worse! Plus his first round picks(going back to '08, just ignore the bad moves because those werent his fault) are all solid! Riley Reiff killed it on the right side! Now we just need a left guard....."

Stick your head on the sand, I could care less. Fact is the Tuna was here, and IMO you'd have to be a moron to not understand he was making the final decisions on all Dolphins matters. Down to who was cleaning the freaking facility. Control freaks, that's what they do, they control.

Personally, I'm tired of all the ignorance ppl show when it comes to Ireland and the situation he was in.

so ireland should get no credit for anything prior to last year even the signing of wake. so all you can say to this point is he is a so so gm that so far has drafted one good lineman

Everyone that bitches about Ireland and wants him fired seems to forget another aspect of it - If Ireland gets fired and we hire another GM, Philbin and the entire staff gets fired as well. Most GM's want to bring in "their" coach. So if Ireland gets fired, we start all over AGAIN. I want to see what Philbin and this new staff can do with a complete off season and what this blue print is going to look like after this years draft before scrapping it all again.

So basically, anything that doesnt meet your personal approval, no matter how much evidence is on hand, is ignorance. Love it.

If Ireland went 4 years without a voice in a collaborative effort, then he should be fired. If he stayed meekly quiet while everyone else burned the team to the ground, he should be fired. If Ireland spent 4 years sitting in his office(by all accounts not working), then he should be fired. Assuming Ireland has only been on the job a year and a half(he hasnt, but lets assume for the minute), this last year and a half have been truly horrific. Just really, really, horrible. Following your "logic", Parcells did the right thing keeping the idiot out of power for as long as possible.

Again, the excuses will be hilarious next offseason. Though the excuses being thrown around here right now are still damn amusing.

Easier to come up with a new plan than completely rebuild a team with a GM that has proven to be incompetent.

Not necessarily true esp after one year.

They need to give Ireland at least 9 more years.......nothing that is wrong with this team is his fault.......everything is someone else's fault.......the few good players we have are all thanks to Ireland....the bad ones are not his fault.....we just need to give him more time......I'm sure after he picks an o-lineman in the first round for the next 6 years we'll be fine.

Ozzy rules!!

Ireland had this Installed in his office

It was heard that the hands represented who's fault it will be
when something goes wrong this season
hand #1...Joe Philbin
hand #2...Kevin Coyle
hand #3...Mike Sherman
hand #4...THE PLAYERS
hand #5...THE FANS

I am not worried about Ireland I am worried about Philbin and if he can coach. As in the post above Shula had only 2 loosing seasons in 26 years and it certainly was not because of the drafts but his coaching! Shula had some poor drafts, yes he had Marinio but he also had Griese who couldn't pass his way out of a wet paper bag. Our drafting has been much worse than what Ireland has produced. For years when we had Marinio the excuses was we had a bad running game and defense. Our GM could not get the right players in. I have heard it all over the years. I am not arguing that the QB is the most important position on the field these days I am saying that the exuses abound as long as we are not winning and they continue even then unless your team is winning the superbowl. It was not Ireland out there the past 4-5 years kicking field goals instead of punching the ball in but Ireland did draft one of the best kickers in the league in Carpender.
Look Henne was Irelands horse that he Parcells and Sporano decided to ride at the QB position. The kid played well enough to tease everyone he could do better and with a guy like Henne you get him a weapon like Marshall and see what he can do they did it was a 2 plus year experiment with Penning first getting hurt and then Henne but you have to give a player a chance to develop. Look at P Solai. Henne was about the 1st QB signed in FA so that story may not be over as much as everyone thinks. Fans want Ireland to forget value and overpay for a player and or draft him to high they acually criticse him for not doing that. In their next breath they complain about the Phillip Merlings, Pat Turners and Pat White we picked in the 2nd round as the worst decisions ever! Geezh

The broncos were 9-8 when they played them in the playoffs. Thats two wins and at the most important games of the year. I will take that and a SB trip any day of the week.

Here, this is how it worked, and I know you know this but your personal agenda against the Miami Dolphins blinds you from admitting what is plain to see.

Ireland was essentially the head talent scout for the Dolphins when the Tuna was here. Meaning he did the footwork, and the Tuna made the final decision. I don't think that is a HUGE leap in logic for anyone who isn't blinded by their personal agenda.

But go ahead, continue to think while the Tuna was here he didn't have the final say. There's a lot of ground for ppl like you to stick their heads into.

Err so you think while the Tuna was here he honestly allowed anyone to make the final call on anything involving the Miami Dolphins? Honestly dude, if you think that you have no freaking clue about the Tuna.

The only ppl making excuses, are the Ireland bashers. You all are a bunch of Parcell apologist IMO. Get your head of the sand, pls!

there's a very good chance we could have our 4th straight losing season under Ireland...how much of a leash has Ross given him? Had we started fresh with a new GM he would have been given at least 3 years to turn things around...what are Stephen Ross's expectations this year? I hope his senile ass isn't expecting playoffs like he has been the past couple seasons lol.

this is why as an owner when you take over a team and they give you 3 straight losing seasons, YOU CLEAN HOUSE. you dont half fire a regime...especially when you didnt hire any of these guys yourself.

i hate Ireland's guts but even I think it's unfair to expect him to knock this draft out of the park and have every rookie filling needs and contributing right away just because he might feel the pressure to have his best draft since Parcells left...because that's probably what it's gonna take for this team just to make it to .500 this year.

lets be honest, we are rebuilding. Rebuilding usually = losing games. a new GM with a new coach can lose early while they build up the team with their guys. can a GM going into his 5th year suffer yet another non impact draft and losing season?

Actually it doesn't work like the presidency. Some people expected President Obama to fix the United States of America, which was in the height of an economic crisis with jobs hemorrhaging by the millions in a couple years. Apparently Jeff Ireland gets all the time in the world to get 53 good football players. Go figure.

Your logic is flawed. Who is Bush in this scenario, the Tuna? If that's what you are saying, then you make sense. If not, you aren't thinking it through.

Either way, odds are BOTH of them, Ireland and Obama will be gone after this year.

First of all if I had a personal agenda why would I complain about the fins since they have screwed up the last 4 out of 5 years on their own. I mean they are doing fine without anyone bashing them.

For whatever say Ireland and and none of us really know the true answer to that he was still the gm. If Parcells had final say in all matters what information do you think that was based on. So its probably a pretty logical assumption that the decisions were based on the input he received from ireland. In fact I dont even get the problem with my post. I stated quite plainly the only thing you can judge Ireland by is last year and his drafting of one good OLineman and the call on Wake was obviously Parcells since Ireland could make no decisions in some of your opinions. Just like this year you have to lay all the praise or blame of our offseasons so far on Ireland.

I will give Ireland credit for one thing so far this offseason because Im definately not enthused by his mass signing of other teams players not good enough to start and that is not extending Moore at this point. Lets see the guy continue to perform and if he earns it extend him.
