So how is this fair?

marijuana is not "performance enhancing"- simple answer

how true that is! Go ahead smoke weed, its certainly not gonna make you a better player! Jordan was on ped's all offseason and look at him. Then look at how Moreno came in, maybe he was using weed as his "ped"!

Im pretty sure if they did a surprise test on the whole league tomorrow... they`d have to cancel the first 4 weeks of the season because more than half the players would be suspended...

If this needs to be moved than so be it, but I gotta ask this.

I just read that Dwayne Bowe got a ONE game suspension for an arrest involving marijuana. That means he was caught with a substance that is illegal on a Federal level. Yet Jordan and Jones (sounds like a law firm) get suspended for FOUR games for something the NFL has deemed illegal. I don't know about you, but if an arrest record was generated by one action then that should out weigh the action that did NOT produce an arrest record. It just doesn't seem fair to me that the guy who got arrested gets off with a slap on the wrist and our guys get the raw end of the deal. I don't care what effect the substances has on the player. Bowe was arrested for a substance that is illegal on a Federal level. Our guys are in trouble for something that is banned on a corporate level. Seems the punishments don't fit the crimes.

EDIT: Let it be clear that I think ANYONE who gets in trouble with the law should be punished the same as someone who uses PEDs. I don't care if it was drunk driving, battery, smoking weed, any of it. If it produces an arrest record they should be punished just like anyone else if not more so than those who don't get arrested. You start punishing the guys who get arrested on a regular basis like you do those that get in trouble for banned things by the League they might actually stop and think first before doing something stupid off the field.

While a agree, I would bet there are many users that would disagree.
Many marijuana users point to marijuana as an artistic enhancement. A sexual enhancement. A mood enhancer.
But I do agree it would do nothing to help you on the field.

By the way a marijuana violation would have resulted in a longer suspension last year - prior to recent changes in the leagues drug policy. With marijuana being legal in some states the NFL had to re-address it's policy. You can't really do policy based on the fact that he got arrested or not. Can the league really threat a player busted with marijuana in KC any different than a player in Denver just because it's legal in Colorado?

Yes. I am a electrician by trade and a our union does not care what Colorado or Washington says. You fail a drug test, you are off the job.
Even in Colorado and Washington.
I personally think it bunk, but they must be able to fulfill their contracts of a drug free workforce.
BTW. There is litigation going on right now in Washington over this exact scenario.

no, they can't stop them from using it, but they can give random drug tests, and if they are high during practice or a game, they can do something then. just like if someone comes to work drunk.

And herein lies the problem with marijuana.
Drink and use cocaine, pain pills or heroin on Saturday night. Then get a drug test on Monday morning, your golden.
Smoke pot on Saturday night and get a drug test a week later and your ass is grass.
Its wrong and its not fair.

The problem is the random drug testing. Not the drugs.
