So was this Jeff Irelands best draft?

Best draft Ireland has had? No doubt in my mind. Grade Him.

Yes. Ireland's problem has never been his drafting or UDFA pickups. Sure he has had some busts, but it is his Pro Personnel moves that make you scratch your head. He and the whole staff had a great week.

I love this draft, by far Ireland's best, as I said in the other thread, because:
1) we finally drafted Tannehill, someone that the coaching staff thinks is a 1st round franchise QB, and I trust them to know given their experience and intimate knowledge of the player.
2) we next addressed, with first round talent, our other most critical need in offensive tackle which was abysmal last year on the right side.
3) after years of wanting one, we finally drafted a true pass-catching tight-end.
4) we addressed our other lesser needs (IMHO) in a pass-rushing DE, an OLB, a DT, and 2 WR plus more of them for competition in UDFA.

I would have liked to have had a few offensive guards, but maybe the staff feels what we have can be molded to fit that need. All in all, we have addressed those areas of greatest weakness, while taking advantage of falling high level talent to get 1st to 3rd round talent in rounds 4-7 and WR that our staff likes late in the draft. Do I agree with every pick? No. But I'm not going to pretend to know more than these professionals. If they think they made the right pick, I will accept that given the way the draft played out, they seemed to have hit all the needs at a proper time in the draft. We the fans were all screaming WR WR WR and what happened, top level talent fell to us very late in the draft. They played the board magnificently in my opinion, if they feel confident that the players they picked grade out to their pre-draft grades (other than Tannehill where they had inside knowledge and they had graded higher than the board had him).

All in all, brilliantly done by Ireland and his staff. We will see how the draft plays out over the next few years. I like the move to more athletic from just plain large in some areas because of the move to a West Coast Offense. It will make for a more exciting team to watch, and hopefully more success!

I'm more excited about this draft than I have been in a very long time. The athleticism and talent throughout the draft picks far exceeds any draft I recall us having had in the past.

Tannehill will be Ireland's Tebow. This draft will either bring his career to new heights, or it will end it. We shall see. I for one think it will be for the former. Great draft from top to bottom. The only "luxury" pick was miller. And if is healthy, he may have been a steal.

bets draft ever? lol. you guys wasted a 1st round pick on a qb who might possibly be ok in 2015. the fins will be in the cellar like usual this year and you guys will look back on this offseason as the year it REALLY went downhill. you have no qb, no wr's.......what do you really have? a new OT......with strength issues. congrats!!!!!

I think this is the draft that will define Ireland as a GM. Great job!

he has already been defined as a questionable Gm at best. this draft will just confirm it.

Very solid draft. He's not going to fix everything in 1 year. It's going to take a another draft or two to outfit this team with the players that are going to fit the coaching staff's new schemes.

Hey, at least we didn't trade up to the 5th spot to take an iffy franchise qb like you guys did. It will be almost as much fun watching the Jets flip-flop between Sanchez and Tebow (with Sparano calling the plays) as it will seeing Miami progress.

I'm so glad the Jets took the Tebow experience instead of Miami. That, and you guys hiring Sparano made my off-season, no matter how our draft pans out.

yeah I guess we should've ignored the QB position for another year. As a jets fan I bet you would've been here bashing us for that too. In fact, I bet you're a little grumpy that miami got thier QB, hell probably jealous since you got mr career 50/50 on your team.

I think Tannehill is more ready to play than he's getting credit for.

the fins could have traded down and still came away with tannehill and more picks. but i guess given the way this offseason went for the fins (whiffing on every qb they considered) they had to do something. i for one am glad it went this way for you guys. the fins will continue to be a non-factor in this division for a while.

You guys literally hired Tony Sparano to run your offense and drafted a WR for his blocking.

I agree. I think a raw Ryan Tannehill still wins you more games than Moore or Gerrard. I fully expect him to make it hard for the coaching staff to sit him a year.

Yep a very very good draft.. Only thing we didn't fully address was wr but we can't do everything in one year. Strong class next year, tannehill will have had a year to develop, 60mill cap space... 2013 is THE year dolfans
