Some interesting caps numbers from Barry Jackson

Of the 18 OLB playing 50%, PFF has Wheeler last. Are they flawed there as well? Pass rushers are ranked in total pressures, not just sacks, as it should be. Wheeler was #3 with 27, and was #2 in 2012.

The ranking are subjective and inconsistent, but I would not call them flawed. Further, the ranking focuses on performance. The ranking does not measure talent for obvious reasons. My opinion is that the ranking is useful if used appropriately. Since I know the rankings are very subjective, I would have said Wheeler's performance was in the bottom 1/3, but he appears in the top 1/3 for pass rushing OLBs for multiple years. Clearly, his strength is applying pressure.

PFF is totally flawed in their assumption that period on Wheeler , he is nothing special as a pass rusher never has been. The way they do it is ttally flawed because they rate hurries and sacks about equal and they are not.

That's not true. In all due respect, why post on something you do not know?

They are subjective but, consistent in that they rank every player in the NFL the same way. JMO

It is true their pass rushing ratings have been explained before. Hits , sacks and hurries are not all equal although they can have similar affects. Wheeler in reality is a very ineffective pass rusher

PFF does total pass rush snaps and calculates so called hurries and that's their friggin number. Its not really that complex.

Personally i'd say goodbye to Wheeler ( take the hit now ) and try to resign Moore and Garner with pay cuts

Patterson is a dilemma. Good player with serious injury concerns.

I'd cut Wheeler and take Telvin Smith in the 3rd. He may be light in the pants but the speed, his ability to tackle, instincts and cover are all much better than Wheelers.

Your reality and mine on Wheeler's pass rush only for last year are different, and only for a 4-3 OLB.

DT, what advantage do you see for the team in cutting Wheeler?

So if Wheeler is such a good pass rusher how does he have 5.5 sacks for his career. Sacks don't tell the whole story but a good pass rusher would probably have more than 5.5 sacks in 6 years.
Some PFF ratings are beyond absurd like this one and their runningback one that rates Joque Bell's year as better than Knowshown Moreno's.
Not to mention their beyond idiotic numbers saying Miami was average in pass blocking

Removing dead weight. How much did he really help us last year? I believe QBs had a passer rating of over 100 on him, he created no turnovers and missed numerous tackles. If Jenkins beats him out (which he was already getting used more on passing downs instead of Wheeler) then we have a roster spot being taken up by an overpaid player. Release him now, make plans to draft his replacement or sign a cheaper free agent that can play the Will backer and move on.

Seattle is the new king of the hill, right? Well when they make a mistake they don't hold on to players they let them go. How long was Matt Flynn there before he was gone? How long did they hold on to Mike Williams after he was a bust top-5 pick for Detroit? How long did they hold on to Charlie Whitehead after they traded for him? I don't want us to copy Seattle in the way they do business...I don't expect that to be duplicated anywhere (unlike all these fools that think the Patriots success can be copied elsewhere by signing their front office personnel or coaches) but if there's one thing I'd like to see us implement is admitting mistakes and moving on from them quickly. Cut the fat off.

I'd really like to see them draft a strong MLB and move Ellerbe outside.

In the last 7 games Jenkins was in pass coverage 35 times but, 20 were vs NE. In the other 6 games, a total of 15 snaps in cover is not much of anything.

Why would anyone pay over $6M for a roster spot? It makes no sense this year.

Or move him back to Baltimore so we can actually get a good starting linebacker

While we are chopping heads on D here, should we include Jones with Ellerbe and Wheeler. He was at least as bad. So, we cut all three, take a cap hit of over $20M, forget about fixing the OL, and look forward to a top 5 draft pick? BRILLIANT!!!

Well up till this season Jones had played well unlike Wheeler and Ellerbee whose history suggest their good play was more of a fluke than a pattern.
Bad players are bad players regardless.
I mean its popular on board to bash and want to cut WHEELER BUT SOMEHOW eLLERBEE WHO WAS EVERY BIT AS bad if not worse few mention cutting. Neither player is worth their contract.
They make Wallace seem like a bargain
