Some interesting caps numbers from Barry Jackson

Well up till this season Jones had played well unlike Wheeler and Ellerbee whose history suggest their good play was more of a fluke than a pattern.
Bad players are bad players regardless.
I mean its popular on board to bash and want to cut WHEELER BUT SOMEHOW eLLERBEE WHO WAS EVERY BIT AS bad if not worse few mention cutting. Neither player is worth their contract.
They make Wallace seem like a bargain

Damn, not true again. Jones only had one good year in 2012. Is this really you? lol

So u are saying in 2011 he was a bad player or are u saying by PFF ratings. Jones was a solid NFL safety in 2011 nothing special but showed much promise unlike Ellerbee who couldn't crack the RAvens lineup over Mcclain or Wheeler who we passed over for almost nthing. Now I never agreed with the strategy of giving Jones this big contract this year based on one very good season esp when we held the cards. I would not have made him the fifth highest paid safety. Not sure what we saved by signing him so early

I never put much stock into PFF ratings but what I remember there were a lot of people on this forum wanting Jones cut/replaced in 2011. A lot has to do with the first game against New England when he repeatedly took poor angles on passes thrown in his area.

In the last 7 games Jenkins was in pass coverage 35 times but, 20 were vs NE. In the other 6 games, a total of 15 snaps in cover is not much of anything.

Why would anyone pay over $6M for a roster spot? It makes no sense this year.

So the most important game we played Wheeler was on the bench while a rookie took his spot. It makes sense to me. Get your head out of the stats and look up at the game being played.

In 2011, Jones played around 60% of snaps. He was thrown at 26 times and gave up 20 completions, a 77% rate. From NFL, not PFF, and you think that was showing promise?

His overall play showed promise as a first year starter. I always felt he was suspect in coverage but always thought he was our best pick in the draft we took him in.

Many thought the game he played against Tennessee was going to be a prelude of things to come. Unfortunately he hasn't had many games like that over his career.

OK, let's do that. In the Pats game, Jenkins was in for 20 cover plays, and Wheeler for 28. Misi was in for 19 cover plays. IF you were looking up at that game being played, you would have seen that we were trying to stop the run, which is why Jenkins and Misi were on the field on so many pass plays.

IF you believe that Jenkins was better in cover, one would have to think that he would have played more than 15 snaps in the other 6 games but, that did not happen.

I don't even think he played well in 2012. He made more plays on the ball, but he also took himself out of a lot of plays, resulting in big gains for the opposing offense. He took the bait on every playaction pass, took poor angles, and was out of position - and he hasn't changed much since 2012.

As did Ellerbe, and he showed in a Super Bowl run vs the best the NFL has to offer.

I think Ellerbe has a chance to improve a lot next year.

If you were looking at the game instead of the stats like I said you would have noticed that after we took the lead at the end it was Jenkins on the field for the Pats last drive and not Wheeler. Welcome to football played on the field and not on paper.

Jenkins has some promise. He is a bright kid that has coverage ability coming out of UF. He did okay last year. I would like see what he can do in a full NFL offseason/training camp.

So, you are saying that I should focus on one game in seven, and one drive in that game as opposed to the other six games when Jenkins barely played? Why would anyone do that in football played on the field or on paper. One series vs 7 games is a somewhat silly comparison. JMO

Ellerbee took 4 years to become a starter because of injury quite different than Jones path. You cant ignore three years of his play just because you like his fourth, then make an excuse for his fifth year.
Im so glad that Ireland is gone, this guy based on one year is now making Jerod Mayo money. I personally didn't agree signing Jones to that kind of money based on one really good year. Seems like that is a recipe for failure

I think ellerbee is the same guy that couldn't crack the starting lineup for the ravens
