Some persepctive on Dion Jordan

yea i see a lot of that...that kid collins is a nice player too...gonna be a thorn in our sides for quite a while...new england has figured out how to use him and there's still meat on the bone...

Which is exactly what Coyle will be tasked with doing with Jordan as well. I really hope/think they can use him in about every situation. He has the skill it just needs to be developed. I was surprised by his bull rush move, it isn't as bad as I thought it was, but you are right he definitely needs to develop on inside counter move. Based on the fluidness of his hips, his long arms, and his ability to hand fight one would think that it should develop pretty quickly. I expect by his third year that not only will he be a force in the pass rush but also many other aspects as well. The kid is still raw but has a ton of athletic ability, this coaching staff just needs to develop and utilize it.

Well the fact that he was hurt last year and has been a project. And that coaches still dont know how they want to use him make his selection last year a bad pick. Which is probably why Ireland got canned! But I am glad Ireland made that mistake as I haven' t liked him for last 3 yrs. As for Jordan he may still be a project this year also.

I disagree. I think the coaches have an idea of how they want to use him but they viewed him as a liability against the run so they were limited in how they could use him. I think it was the Tampa Bay game when they realized he wasn't ready for full-time use.

I don't think Dion's draft-pick spot is ever going to be justified until he gets more and more snaps per game. He's a terrific talent, I love the guy, but for a top 3-pick, Miami needs him starting ASAP, or at least in regular rotation each and every game.

Until he is on the field every single play his draft-pick spot was a mistake. When you are a mediocre 7-9 team you don't spend a first and second round pick on an injured project player. You draft two starters, improve your team, and win the wild-card spot. THANK YOU JEFF IRELAND.

When I think of a Dolphin situational pass rusher who changed the game, I think of Trace Armstrong.

I appreciate everything about Jordan. From his potential to what he has shown on the field. And finally having an answer for Gronk and all those TE's that have killed us over the years is not to be over looked.

That said, I have stated many times that Jordan was a luxury pick. In order to make that luxury pick, we sacrificed 2 picks and RT was sacked 58 times. We valued shopped on the OLine in FA and drafted Dallas Thomas.

Dion Jordan is a classic example of an athlete who will be unfairly judged based on the cost to acquire him and output based solely on stats.

Does he get us one step closer to being an elite team? Yes. Does he change the game? Yes.

Did his acquisition fill a glaring need and help the team win more games? No.

And this is why I say we MUST pursue Mack (C) in a trade. Jordan cost us at least 1 maybe 2 additional OLineman from last year's draft. Those players must be acquired by FA in order to offset the void left by this luxury pick.

As frustrated as fans are with Jordan's output based on his draft status, there will be 10 times as many fans furious when it is time to pay RT when he had the chance to produce elite stats and failed because we failed to build an OLine competent enough to keep him off the ground less than 40 times in a season. They will want blood and complain that his stats do not justify the contract. Yet it is this organization's inability to distinguish need from luxury and when one has more importance than the other that will lead us to this conflict.

If Jordan is to truly be appreciated, we need another proven and talented FA on the OLine to stop the bleeding. We cannot go into next season with 2 All Pros, 1 upcoming and unproven talent, 1 stop gap/value guy and a guy with no NFL starts protecting the most important position on the team.

Admit the mistake, acquire Mack, move Pouncey to G and draft T in the first round. THEN Jordan may be able to truly be evaluated for his actual contributions and not by the sacrifices made to acquire him.

spot on but while you can attempt to land mack i think all you are gonna be doing is the browns leg work for them by signing him to an offer sheet...at this point though why not...

What do you think is a slightly higher offer than they are willing to pay but still doesn't overpay considering our need, his ability and the flexibility it gives us in the draft and protecting our Franchise?

$6.5/7M year?

And what about draft pick compensation? 2nd or 3rd?

The Browns have been wholesale rebuilding since last year. I believe there is a "value" price they are willing to move on without him for the draft pick.

No, Dion Jordan is a classic example of an athlete who will be CORRECTLY JUDGED based on the cost to acquire him.

Dion Jordan is getting paid as the third overall pick in the draft. He should be judged by the standard of what is expected from third overall picks in the draft.

Yes, but I was somewhat inferring it's not his fault WE gave up so much to get him. Yes, he is being paid based on his draft position. But WE are the ones responsible for the draft position. Not him.

But I do appreciate your point of view, as well.

Who should be judged is Ireland for picking him in the first place. If the Colts had drafted Andrew Luck when they had healthy Peyton, would he have been a bust sitting behind Peyton for one year or even three even when you knew his talent was top class? The GM judged the fact that it was worth it to get a stud even if you have studs in front of him.

None of you guys have come up with a legit criticism of his play beyond the fact he isn't starting and you don't even want to touch the fact of which defensive end should be sit to have him play. So we play the switching him to LB game, but the spot he would be best suited for is filled with a guy we just made a big commitment to.

it would at least have to be a 2nd rounder...and i doubt $7 mil per would be enough to get him inked to an extension...

BINGO!!!!! Jeff Ireland strikes again.... I swear it is going to take five years to remove Jeff Ireland's poison from this franchise.

My problem with the pick isn't that Jordan doesn't have potential. He obviously does. My problem with the pick is that it cost us two potential starters in a year where those starters could have been the difference between a playoff wild card and third place in the AFC East.

One final note: I haven't heard anything from Jordan's agent complaining that he is being paid as the third overall pick in the draft instead of the 22nd pick. If he's taking the money then he gets judged as and compared to other players who were third overall picks.

As talented as DJ really is you build your front 7 around what he does best not try a round peg in a square hole BS.

I think we need to be patient with Dion, last year he was an injured, raw rookie and it isn't realistic to have expected a huge amount from him. The reason we were able to trade up for him for only a 2nd round pick was because the draft was so weak, so personally speaking I don't think he needs to live up to 3rd overall pick, he needs to live up to what he himself can potentially be.
As for his best spot I'm not knowledgeable enough to know, it does appear his biggest value is in the passing game so the question is is he better covering the elite TEs in the league or becoming a pass rusher or some combination of the two. I guess conceivably a bit of both depending on the opposition would be my own thoughts.

If we get even later first round value I have no problem flipping him for a first in 2014
