Sources: Dolphins Knew About Martin's Problems Beforehand

come on...i was just bustin his chops...care bear

They are defining themselves and somehow don't realize it. Sometimes I think I use the word simpleton too frequently on boards like this. Then I read the next thread.

Howie Long coming out and saying this isn't a surprise. Assume that Richie Incognito Sr. said what he said about Martin because he heard it from his son. Well... Howie's son Chris now plays with Jake Long, who I'm sure knows everything about Jonathan Martin that Richie Incognito knows.

I feel bad for all of you tired of this story. It's so far from over.

Even the Hernandez story didn't really last more than a month, and that was a much juicier story. I don't think ESPN will continue to drive this story for the rest of the season. There comes a point when the audience just tunes out (see Tebow), and I think this story is reaching that point.

At least for me, I am just completely over it. I welcome any changes that happen as a result of it (please fire everyone), even if I feel the whole thing was completely uneccessary and overblown.

What are you talking about, dude? The Hernandez story is still going on. The prosecution is just in evidence gathering mode as we speak so the headlines aren't as bold and shocking. I mean, if this Incognito/Martin thing hadn't broke we'd be talking about Pouncey's subpoena to testify about whether he's about to get arrested as a co-conspirator for bankrolling an East coast gun running operation.

Once the trial starts the Hernandez thing will be front page news all over again. Maybe not at OJ levels -- the lack of a race angle will prevent that -- but something close.

The kind of legs this Incognito/Martin story has or doesn't have will depend on what gets out. If Martin is a homosexual drug addict with a history of mental illness so severe he's attempted to commit suicide multiple times and was beaten and tormented -- partially on the orders of his coaching staff... well, that's pretty goddamn big news. World-wide news, potentially.

Is that going to be the bottom line here? Who knows? All I'm saying is that we've had kind of a dry spell here for a few days so what we're talking about now is already sort of warmed over, but every indication we've seen is that some of the most explosive stuff is yet to come.

The Tebow story was all about exploiting a cult of personality. Whether you bought into the cult or hated it, the networks could count on you to tune in. This is more like a well crafted narrative, full of twists and turns that make sense in retrospect but which are shocking when first revealed.

I would have lambasted Ireland for trading for Albert but this puts a new perspective on it, although I still think it would have been dumb when we could have just signed Long without giving up a pick but this whole saga goes to show we, as fans, only see a drop in the bucket of whats really going on behind the scenes.

long priced himself out of returning here. based on his play the last couple of seasons and the injury history (as well as everything that has come out since he left), the front office (ireland) did the best thing for the franchise.

Did you just wake up from a coma or something? We have the clarity of hindsight and we now know he did the exact opposite of the best thing at every possible stage in addressing the o-line.

Incognito's dad was right. He said this would come out, and whatdya know. Martin's a f**king headcase and Ireland needs to be fired for drafting him despite knowing this. Selecting him was literally a -1, possibly more in the near future.

If we lose draft picks because of this Ireland's gotta be in the running for the worst GM the NFL has ever seen. Matt Millen's new catchphrase is gonna be: Thank God for Jeff Ireland.

I wasn't even counting on draft picks, I was just saying losing Cogs and maybe Philbin. But yes, it has the possibility to become much worse if we are docked picks for Martin's fairy ass.

i wasn't talking about the job he did on the offensive line as a whole. just that not signing jake long was the correct thing to do (foresight and hindsight). it just wasn't happening. people should stop bringing it up.

I don't see how we could possibly lose picks over this foolishness. That would set an awful precedent.

Is the NFL going to start taking picks from any team with players with behavioral problems? Why not Patriots too then?

In any case, the fact that Ross was so proactive with getting the NFL involved should help protect against any punitive measures like draft pick losses.

I'm more worried about stuff thats yet to come out, like this Incognito sexual harassment thing if the Dolphins had covered that up from the NFL it could have cost us picks. Evidently the NFL knew about it though so we dodged that bullet but what else is to be revealed.

the team followed league protocol and reported it as is required. not "evidently the nfl knew about it," not "dodged that bullet." give credit where credit is due.
