Sports Buzz: More national criticism, questions about Philbin

My dad was a cop...it took him all of 5 seconds to look in my bother's car window 1 time see seeds on the floor and pull his tag...he is a details man...he is anal...

I watched hard knocks...I saw a man who was detail oriented to the point of being ANAL and obsessive...that man knows every single thing that goes on in his locker room because that is the type of person he is...did you see him picking up paper off the locker room floor? he sees everything and to think that he didn't see this is putting your head in the sand...

he was given a wash in the report because the report is complete and utter garbage...it was designed to paint martin as the victim, incog as the evil man with the mustache tying martin to the rail road tracks, and jerry and and pouncy as his two side kicks that did less than incog because he was the evil mastermind...then way out in left field, philbin was not aware...

complete garbage...just say philbin was complacent in it and he got away with it and stop acting like the man is a saint...because not knowing is worse for his image than knowing and doing nothing...

Actually....no. I don't think anyone saw this. I have heard player after player interview, who are in the locker room with these clowns say not only did they have no idea this was going on, but the atmosphere in the locker room was great and very normal in their opinion.

Personally, I would like to see all of these guys go who were involved in this embarrassment, but the idea that this situation "was as plain as the nose on your face and should have been obvious to all" is absurd.

How did your beloved Mangini handle the fact that his QB Bret Favre was sexually harassing a reporter in the locker room and via text messaging? How did Harbaugh not know about Martin's documented depression while at Stanford? Coaches aren't big brother.

Totally, different stories. Joe Philbin wanted players to respect each other and they did not…obviously, they were not listening to what he was saying.

To be honest, I don't remember much of Zelig.

In any case, Sherman doesn't seem to want to get involved, and since the report protects his friend, Philbin, he's probably satisfied. I agree that it's unusual that his name hasn't come up, it's his offense.

It's in everyone's interest to move past this, but at the same time, you can't sweep things under the rug. My iniital reaction was, JMart was being a baby and exaggerating. Maybe I felt that way because all the initial info was about using the N word, and a cafeteria prank, etc. I recognized that most of that language is used between friends, and that everyone pranks everybody. But now,..more info is out and it's clear to me that much more was going on. Now I understand. I guess I should have known better to begin with. But the bottom line is...we were losing. The O line was inexplicably collapsing. The last games were a collapse for the rest of the team as well. When that happens, it means the ball is being dropped, somewhere.

I agree.

Different stories, same concept. You are trying to hold Philbin accountable for something he was completely unaware of, and was directly lied to about. There are rules, and if a player breaks them, its a reflection of the player - not the coach. Its a reflection of the coach if no action is taken to correct the problem, and it well documented that action was taken.

Your dad found tangible evidence, and may have had cause to be looking for it. What you are asking Philbin to be is a psychologist and diagnose the nature of a dysfunctional relationship between 2 of his many players. Huge difference.

Ross should have cleaned house...anyone that knew or should have known needs to be outta here!!! Philbin, Pouncey, Jerry, Turner, all of them. Especially Philbin because he runs the show and it is ultimately his responsibility.

Look, you know that I think Joe is a bad, bad NFL head football coach. I think he was a bad hire then and still do today.

However, I admit that I was too tough on Joe when the report came out.

Here is where Joe missed out…1. he did not have enough or effective "foot soldiers" working the locker room for him and if things got bad enough, that they would report back to him so he could take care of business. 2. if he did in fact preach respect for each other, the players did not heed the message, therefore, showing him respect.

I think Joe is a decent man and would never want a player to feel awful on his team. However, Martin not saying a word to anyone is the problem. I have always stated that is the root of the issue of this case.

I might be naive, but I think if Martin told Joe or even asked the linemen to cut it out…I think the words and games stop. I really believe that.

Honeyb - It's not an original line, it comes from a Woody Allen movie, Zelig about a human chameleon, who disappears for a period and everyone is concerned and then they show Woody performing in the mariachi band. Ironically, when Zelig meets with a group of psychiatrists, he behaves like a psychiatrist. J-Mart is our Zelig. He blew up to 312 lbs and he behaved like an O-lineman when he was in their company. He only escaped his human chameleon character when he found love (ironically Mia Farrow).
Thank you for recognizing a feeble attempt at humor in this very sad episode.

Great reference.

Your not alone thinking that way.

I would also add, that Turner was also part of the problem in participating in the sophomore antics of this group.

If I have any issue with Philbin in this, it is that Coach Turner didn't conduct himself in a professional manner or create a professional atmosphere. I have no expectations that Joe Philbin should be aware of something that one of his players never told to anyone......but he absolutely should be aware of what his coaches are doing.

I am sure Joe as a new coach was finding a balance of control vs. allowing his players the latitude for their own work space.

You most certainly have to question Philbin. Sure he doesn't necessarily see everything that goes on with the team in the lockerroom but his assistants should have a pulse on their own position units. Those assistants were hired by and report to Joe Philbin. If they didn't report anything screwy with their players to Phlbin then that's on them but Joe is the one that hired them. When a ship runs a ground, the first thing you have to do his hold the captain accountable. He's the one in charge. He hired Turner who particiapted in or ignored this whole fiasco.

players in the locker room didn't really know or that is the line they feed the public? I imagine it would be bad for your image if you told a reporter, yeah I sit on the other side of the room and saw this stuff every day but....thought it was all in good fun, didn't care, wasn't any of my business, k EW incog and pouncy were joking, or the best of all time it happens in ever locker room.

The bleeding hearts would crucify anyone who was stupid enough to say anything but "I had no idea"
