Right.Actually he wasnt allowed to talk about it then.
A good leader would, he probably won't.
No a good leader wouldn't. You just want him to speak to criticize him even more.

2) When Martin didn’t show up for a mandatory weight training session on Oct. 7 (a day after playing poorly in the Ravens game) and then came to work drunk later that day, why did Philbin not see this as a warning sign? After all, Philbin had been fully aware of Martin’s mental health issues since May, and something like this should have prompted Philbin to take Martin into a room and press and prod him for details about whether he was taking his medication, what was bothering him, etc.
Wells’ report indicates Philbin never did anything of the kind, beyond occasionally asking him how he was doing, as a coach would do with any player.
Sherman's perspective would be kind of interesting. If you remember Hard Knocks, he publicly humiliated Egnew to the point that he almost burst out crying. That could have just as easily been labelled a bullying incident, had there been no cameras.

What's wrong with speaking to give people a little bit more clarity on what he did or did not know?No a good leader wouldn't. You just want him to speak to criticize him even more.

I'd like to hear his response to this:
“I thought the Wells report went too easy on Philbin, saying he was unaware of the plight of Jonathan Martin, an unidentified player and an assistant trainer, all of whom were being harassed,” SI’s Peter King wrote in his Monday Morning Quarterback column today.
“How can Philbin have been in that building 15 hours a day, at least, and not known anything?" King said. "And how can Wells accept that this was a fine job by Philbin, and he was some sort of Boy Scout troop leader promoting wonderful citizenship? I do understand he asked Jim Turner about what was going on with his players, and Turner told him everything was fine. But what caused Philbin to ask Turner?
"Obviously his antennae were up. Philbin, whom I find to be a good man, still should know better, and this had better be a very good lesson for him, or his time in the head coach’s chair is going to be short.”
Then there was this from ESPN’s Mark Schlereth: “I’m left with this conclusion about the Dolphins organization from the coaching staff on down: They were either complicit, incompetent or both.”

I'd like to hear him clarify exactly how, as a head coach, he let all of that go on under his nose while remaining oblivious. He didn't appear to have a very good command or feel of the locker room, something that I would expect form a head coach. It would be nice to hear him speak on the issue, minus the note cards and Dawn Aponte lurking in the background. Just a head coach explaining what happened and how his team spiraled out of control last year.
I am generally supportive of Joe, but we have a situation where his LT was struggling and it was affecting team performance because of the failure to protect the QB (and best hope of the team). This was one of the most obvious issues on the team. Therefore he needed to understand in detail what was being done and how Martin was coping. After the Tampa Bay night game that we just lost, Ireland traded for Bryant McKinnie, almost immediately. I suspect that Martin's performance that night triggered a request from Philbin to Ross and Ross to Ireland to get him a better LT.WTF you guys? You do realize that these guys are adult men on a professional sports team? Not to mention it being the NFL where the toughest of the tough are suppose to reside. What do you expect Philbin, or any other coach for that matter, to do? Should he have held Martin's hand every time he went a bit wobbly? What Philbin should have done after Martin showed up drunk was suspend and fine him. Philbin was Martin's coach and boss. He was not his daddy. Other than asking Martin how he was doing what else could he do, especially if Martin is telling him everything is fine?

I don't expect Joe to be holding Martin's hand but I do expect Joe to monitor how Martin was coping. We now find out that there was a drug issue on the O-line. We find out that Martin was suicidal several months before. The daily bullying by Incognito. The racial taunts against the Asian assistant trainer. How does Joe miss all of this when we all knew the O-line was the biggest problem. It's OK to delegate but he should have been paying closer attention and not just digesting all the b/s from Turner. His closeness to his mentor, Mike Sherman, was clearly a problem. It's almost like there was only one brain between the two of them.
I have no doubt that Joe is a good man but he needs to learn from the J-Mart incident and monitor his coaching team more closely. The departure of Sherman permits fresh air, new ideas and some creativity back in the building. The departure of Ireland permits the opportunity to cut some drafting and recruiting failures. He is actually well placed to implement his plan.
Carpe diem - seize the day!
Thanks tl77 - I must have the wrong game. I thought that it was a night game that we lost that triggered the trading for McKinnie - I must be wrong.Just for clarity - this scenario is impossible, as Martin had already left the team at this point. He left prior to the Bengals game.
