Spragan

Accurate? Says you. You seem to quickly denounce the fact that he improved.

He may have improved a drop or two, but he's certainly no PB OLB. I'm not expecting one out of Spragan either, but he's bigger and has the potential to easily replace a player as average as Greenwood....

So why then did his numbers jump higher in 2003 than in 2002? Our defense was a rock in 2003. There goes your "the defense sucked" theory. Can't wait to hear your next line of defense.

Maybe teams decided they should run more towards Greenwood's side of the field. Maybe opposing offenses targeted him, knowing he was our weakest link at LB???...

There is "some truth" to what you speak, and Greenwood improved little by little, but he's no 100 tackle a season LB like you're hyping him up to be....

I'd also love to hear how a guy like Ray Lewis racks up over a hundo if his defense doesn't suck.

I shouldn't have to answer that for you. He's the best MLB in the NFL, and you know that.....

Can we just call it a draw and move on. Greenwood is gone, and this is a whole new ball game under Saban now. You've done very well defending your word, and I highly underestimated your determination.....

PHINZ RULE!!!

You just like to talk smack! You make this guy out to be an all pro, when he is a journey-man at best! I am done talking to you.

Hahah ......... well first you come at me.........then you say to me, "no you're right Greenwood was good, but just wasn't worth the money." ........and now you're calling him a journeyman at best? Bi-Polar?

I guess you just got mad because you read Greenwood's stats wrong.

I never came at you. i think you have a huge complex about trying to knock people to make yourself look good! I never made any negative comments to you, and you are just full of insults. When you can have a conversation like a mature person let me know.

Whoooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa slow down buck-O..........who said anything about Pro Bowls here? Now you're just straying off into tangents I know I never even brought up. As far as Spragain goes, if you go read his stats, he's the same type of player Greenwood was for the Fins...........solid..........bunch of tackles, but relatively no sacks and turnovers forced.

Maybe teams decided they should run more towards Greenwood's side of the field. Maybe opposing offenses targeted him, knowing he was our weakest link at LB???...

To which I say, maybe they didn't? LOL ........c'mon man, seriously, c'mon. Here you go, his stats on where he made his tackles as reported by yahoo.com in the NFL section of it's sports page.....

Situation G Solo Ast Total
Wide Right 7 6 3 9
Right 14 28 9 37
Middle 10 13 5 18
Left 11 18 6 24
Wide Left 9 10 3 13

Hmmmmmmmmmm could it be? Oh my god, YES!!!! He was making tackles all over the field!!!!!!!

There is "some truth" to what you speak, and Greenwood improved little by little, but he's no 100 tackle a season LB like you're hyping him up to be....

I'm not hyping him up to be a 100 tackle a season linebacker. I began my argument with you by stating he didn't "suck" and I stick by that. You don't have a very good defense as to why he does.

I shouldn't have to answer that for you. He's the best MLB in the NFL, and you know that.....

I knew you'd chicken out from answering the Zach Thomas question.......somehow magically he's unaffected by having a bad d-line and is allowed to have a 100 tackle season without it being the bad D's fault, yet Greenwood isn't.

Can we just call it a draw and move on. Greenwood is gone, and this is a whole new ball game under Saban now. You've done very well defending your word, and I highly underestimated your determination.....

PHINZ RULE!!!

I sound heated, but really I'm just arguing.......it's the lawyer in me I guess. I know full well he's gone. I just personally think you underestimate Greenwood's abilities.

Insults? I insulted you because I showed that you read Greenwood's statline wrong?

I base my statements on several things. There have been articles written and things said about what type of player Saban likes ever since his coming to the Fins, but I don't have the links. But based on these things and based on the style of D he ran at MSU, LSU and the Browns...he likes the bigger, taller LBs to fill in gaps and string out the OL and keep the rushing plays going east and west, and putting additional pressure on the QB on passing plays. If you think back to the Giants with LT, Pepper and company you can see the type of player he tends to like. That influence (on Saban) probably came from Belichek (sp). At Cleveland, he had Carl Banks, Pepper Johnson, Travis Hill, Gerald Dixon and Ed Sutter as LBrs...all in the same mold. Since then, it has been stated by BB that he consulted with Saban on building his Pats D. The smallest LBs they have are in the 250 lb range and all are at least 6'2"...Even at LSU, even tho he didn't have all 250 lb LBs, he had LBs that were big for college play. He also has been widely known to adjust his scheme to his players and move his LBrs and DL around a lot. If you remember LSU two seasons ago, they were constantly moving the front 7 around and creating mismatches and confusion on the OL. So I hope this answers your question as to where most of us deduct the "Saban" type LBer...

Thanks, I understand..I thought I'd miss some news flash with specific players he likes.

Uh-ohh, you said "Saban" and "likes" in the same sentence. This cat (MD) is prob. gonna ask for a link or a fax or microfiche or something....

dude ur an *******. all he was trying to find out was y people have been saying that they r saban type players. u could of just made it into a small, short summary instead of being sarcastic and stupid.

He sucked? Excuse me, but I missed that part of his career with the Dolphins. The man was solid all the way around. Came to work everyday, blue collar all the way. In fact when Zach went out with an assortment of injuries the past two seasons, Morlon stepped in admirably and that's exactly how he earned his payday with the Texans. Give the man credit where credit's due...........sucked? Maybe your evaluation of the man does, but Morlon Greenwood certainly doesn't suck.

Took the words right out of my mouth Enigmatics. Thank you! :D

It's funny how when he was a Dolphin he was hailed as a consistent player, and now that he's gone he "sucks." Shame.

Why did you take this personnally, that's not how I presented it..I wasn't asking you to prove anything..are you having a bad day, I'm sorry. I just wanted to know where everybody gets this is Saban's type from. Nothing personal, it would help me in evaluating a potential player that we may want to pick up. I'd have a better idea of if he's a type player we'd sign if I knew more about what Saban likes. I just see a player who can play or not, and I miss all the measurables. So all that other stuff you threw in wasn't neccessary. When I comment on things on this board, I expect to be challenged, and I think it's good so that we get the best out of the conversation. If you don't want someone to question you, please either don't comment or just say, this is my opinion and I can't back it up. I'll let it go right there. It doesn't mean you're wrong, but it lets me know this is more gut than fact.

"Again, you said he likes as though you know personally, and my question is, is there a place we could get that type of info from..is it in his book or what?"
I took that as a shot at sarcasm, that's why I responded. I never had a problem with being challenged on any opinion or challenging someone elses opinion. But if some one is going to be a smarta$$, than there's a problem. If that's not the way you meant it, then I'll fall back....
Back to my main point, I still believe Saban prefers Bigger Lbs for his defense, not just looking at his moves since becoming HC but back to lsu; out of the 12 lbs on that roster 9 were atleast 6'1 and taller. I believe that clearly shows a preference with the remaining three being the exception (ie players w/ heart)

Now why would you want to take it there? You really should keep your nose out of grown folks business when it doesn't involve you.
