Still missing Lamar Miller?

Yes, he did.

Wasn't the difference of money a mere $500k?

EDIT: Looked it up. We were offering roughly about $5mil per, but he signed with HOU for $6.5 per....

Ok, So it's a bit more than I thought.

Let's not act Miller isn't a talented RB just because Ajayi is doing well. It would have been nice to have both...defense having to gameplan for both, having both on the field at the same time...yes a lot of resources int he position, but being talent rich is never a bad thing.

I think we offered $4 million...he took $6.5 million?

Truthfully Houston's O-line has been bad this year. Maybe a notch above our line from last year. And our O-line only started blocking well two weeks ago when we got all starting 5 in the lineup.

There have been some runs by Ajayi that I've thought...man if he had Miller's speed that would have been 6...like that 53 yard run from down near the goal line...reminded me of the time Miller took one 97 yards against the Jets. But then Miller doesn't break all the arm tackles Ajayi does either. Would have been nice to have both...Ajayi to bruise the defenders and then Miller could come in when they tired and just blow by them. Hopefully Drake can get his act together and be that guy....right now I'm disappointed in him but that's just me I guess.

We had both Lamar and Jay on the roster last season. We should have kept him for the xtra $2mil more than they offered Anderson. That's being penny wise and pound foolish, especially since Miller was a known commodity, the only one on the roster, a local hero and was just looking for justification to stick around.

Now do I think that Ajayi would have prospered under Philbin or Campbell.. or been motivated and productive based on play schemers and callers not named "Gase?" Never say "never" but IMO that's doubtful! Instead, I believe Gase and his staff would have brought the best out in Miller also. Best of both worlds!

Yea that might have been 6 from Miller if he breaks loose but he doesnt stiff arm that safety to make those 2 defenders whiff. So that's not a TD

He wouldn't have had too...lol. They would have never caught him. Miller runs 4.4...Ajayi runs 4.57. I still laugh at the thought of Miller literally breaking Leodis McKelvin's ankle on a juke move after McKelvin was talking all that smack before the game lol.

I think had we kept Miller we never would have got to see what we had in Ajayi

Ajayi was a better prospect, and is a better player, than Miller. But, Miami should have either kept Miller or offered CJ Anderson more (preventing the match from Denver). When Seattle had Lynch, they still invested high/mid picks on big RB's (Turbin and Michael). D. Williams has looked good, though. With Foster out of the fold, expect D. Williams to produce at a good rate when Ajayi needs a break. He had a potential TD catch on the first drive, but Tannehill missed him short. While I was always high on Ajayi, I like this group of RB's more than I expected.

Let's not forget that a major caveat to resigning Miller was that he wanted to be the lead back in whatever offense he was in this year. Those clamoring about the opportunity of a time-share between Miller and Ajayi are forgetting that Miller kinda hated that.

Also, it's been fun to watch a RB who can break an arm tackle.

He did but more than anything he wanted more touches. He would have got that here even with Ajayi. He was getting the ball less than 15 times per game last year. He's a better receiver than Ajayi is right now...3 or 4 receptions a game plus another 15 rushes a game and he would have had a lot more touches per game. Right now we're riding Ajayi kind of hard. 53 rushes and 2 receptions in the last two games. Can he keep that up without breaking down?

Probably for a year but if you want him beyond you need to be closer to 20 carries a game. Damien can handle more burn

Prior to the Steelers game yes. There's no way Ajayi continues at this pace. If he can show consistency for the rest of the season (this requires the team to not get down early/coaches to continue giving him chances), then I would say Miller isn't missed.

At the end of the day, it would have been awesome to have had both here, complementing each other with power and speed, but we also wouldn't have found out what a force Ajayi can be, considering Miller would have been the premier back, so it is kind of a double edged sword.

It does hurt we lost Miller, but considering the type of back Drake can be (When healthy...yes I know), it could work out. Easier to find a quality speed RB to be the change of pace for your powerback, then a quality power back to compliment your speedy RB .
