I think the position has evolved from the days of three yards and a cloud of dust offenses. You could have any corn fed tall guy with half a brain be your quarterback. He's got to really have the ability to read defenses and athletic ability beyond the Griese types that were good enough (it was Earl actually) to get you to a super bowl back in the day. Teams see a guy who has all the intangibles and it is very rare and they will fight over him. Or maybe even throw a few games for him.
