Strief to Miami?....

I haven't read anything that says he's coming here. He wants to stay with the Saints, seems to be just dragging his feet. I guess they don't want to overpay for him.

You could be right but if there is a decent difference, it is good to put pressure on both Loomis (to either find more $ or cut other players - he's strapped) and Strief (to consider moving on).
It is clear Strief would prefer to stay where he lives. However, it is likely that his Agent is telling him to take the Miami offer.

It strikes me as odd that they're even attempting to shake an offer out of NO. Clearly they have moved on. If they do some restructures, they'd pay Graham not Strief. In the mean time, the impression is that he doesn't want to be here. Which is where this whole thing is coming from. His agent realizes they can't burn this bridge when Strief realizes NO is out of the picture.

I believe in the Silver Fox. I think he'll play hard ball with Strief similar to what he did with Delmas

More then likely he is just using us so he can squeeze out every dollar he can from the Saints.

The problem is the saints have no money. They still need to find 4 mil for their draft class. So they need to find another 2 mil just for that. Then find the money to sign strief. I get the idea that hd wants to stay in New Orleans but the writing seems to be on the wall. Maybe he and his agent can't read.

not for nothing but I didnt need tweets to figure out that he wanted to stay in NO.

Even if we are unsuccessful, it is good to see us competing hard to get the best RT on the market. By putting the pressure on like this, someone will crack. Either Loomis is forced to find money he doesn't have - maybe restructure Drew Brees' contract or cut other players, or Strief accepts significantly less to be a Saint or he accepts our offer.
It is good to be in a sound cap position and put the screws on. Hickey knows precisely what he's doing. Coddled footballers worth many $millions hate situations like this. They are used to just doing what their Agent recommends. Rarely will they accept significantly less.

Make him an offer he cannot refuse. He is a quality player. We can sign him if we offer enough money. This would be a huge addition. We have the money to pay him well. Make it happen.

Offer him a contract that makes him the highest paid RT in the league. The tweets from his agent should be fairly entertaining at that point

The Saints would have to move a lot of money around to keep him.

agent is chumming the saints for one last push.

lets see if they bite. if not, sounds like miami MAY be the 2nd choice.

but there is holes in that to. to set up a good shill, you have to show want. and EVERYONE knows the finz need o-line in the worse way. so, you use miami as the "sign me now for xxxx dollars or i am going to miami". and the saints [in their minds] see miami as a logical foe and up the anti just close enough so strief can stay on a good team [as he prefers].

i still dont think this happens. posturing by agent and player. [although i would LOVE this signing]. we can potentially start out this season with 3 bonifide pro bowlers on the line. then draft a guy like all world built like a tank XAVIER SU'A-FILO and what was our achillies heel could now be our strength [and allow us to find out what tannehill REALLY is].

Strief is not using the saints to up an offer when the Saints can't even afford him.

Why would we up our offer or make him the highest paid RT? If anything these tweets show his options are very limited. Why play clean up on freakin twitter if you don't think you may need MIA in the coming days. We need to make a value offer and let it ride. It doesn't appear he has better options.

If they only have 2 mill to work with I doubt he's trying to up the price... I think the agent was trying to show that he would talk to Miami if/once the Saints run out of options to get more cap space to sign Strief for more.. Showing that Strief has the leverage in the situation.
