Strief to Miami?....

Why would we up our offer or make him the highest paid RT? If anything these tweets show his options are very limited. Why play clean up on freakin twitter if you don't think you may need MIA in the coming days. We need to make a value offer and let it ride. It doesn't appear he has better options.
Just to see his agent froth at the mouth... lol

The Saints would have to move a lot of money around to keep him.

and this may be the reason we get a shot at him. as you said, they would have to come up with some SERIOUS cash and streif is 30 years old.

throw in the fact that there are a LOT of great tackle prospects in the draft, especially at rt and you can see the saints moving along.

i bet the fins have thrown out an offer the saints cant/wont beat but streif wants to stay where he has made his career, where his family is and above all, the qb and all world team he has been part of.

i am not convinced that miami is even his second choice. i am sure his agent wants that to appear to be so as no one needs o-line more than the finz. but there are a couple good teams out there who could come in if the saints walk away and i believe if the money is close, doesnt even have to be over miamis offer, he would sign with the better team, a contender or the latest up and comer like the browns are.

just not seeing him coming here. to make the idea work in full, a visit to miami would have sealed it, but, he never came. its all in the saints hands and they will wait streif and the dolphins out as long as they can.

Why not Ryan Harris or Eric Winston? Both are pretty good right tackles...

I think we land him. Hickey is on a roll. Strief will sign with Miami. Hopefully behind the scenes there is good negotiations going on. Things are changing in Miami. (fingers crossed)

Idk.... I'm very very tired of getting used.... Not buying anything and neither should any of you.

He isn't coming. It was just his agent clearing up the media created perception that Strief rejected the Dolphins visit invitation because he didn't want to play for Miami. PFT had a mocking article yesterday based on that news and his agent obviously wanted to set the record straight.

The Dolphins also took offense to that, as they should. But of course Armando now has an article up ripping the team for being to sensitive.

PFT mocking us? Never thought I'd see the day lol.

It's a joke to respond to crap on PFT. The bias against the Phins is all too clear. I'd imagine every team has players decline to visit. We need to start by not acknowledging media garbage.

of course every team has players decline to visit. as to zach strief, has he visited anywhere yet? i'm sure the saints are telling him "we want you back" and he wants to be there. so he "declines to visit" 31 teams other than the saints. now comes the saints' money problems. just because they want him to stay and he wants to be there doesn't mean they are going to be able to come up with the cash to pay him. signing byrd strapped them, i'm sure they want to sign graham long term, they probably have other spots that need filling, plus they need 4 million plus to sign their rookie class (not to mention having money in season to sign people in the event of injury). anyone who says we are potentially being "used" because strief wants to stay with the saints don't get it. if they had the money he would have resigned with them already. we are a possible destination for him if they can't come up with the money.

And Armando is the kind of reporter who would rip on the team for being "rejected" by Strief, what a douche.

Strief's agent had talked with Dolphins as possible good fit. But sounds like they're concentrating on #Saints talks for now. Seems close.

I'm still not so sure pursuing him now is such a great idea. If he truly wants to stay in NO, then that means he doesn't want to leave. Even if they can't afford him and he HAS to go somewhere else, how hard is he really going to want to play for that team? If he's a true professional and able to get over it, then sure, no problem. But how many times have we seen these guys leave the place they've played for years to take a payday somewhere else, and end up sucking for that team because their heart really wasn't in it. Now if they talk to him and he really ends up deciding he really WANTS to be here, then bring him in and help convince him and then tell him ballpark what you'd be willing to do, but not give him a specific number he could take back to NO to get them to work off of. I think the longer this drags on and they see that NO cannot get the numbers to work, the more likely they are to come beg us for a deal.

Make the man a sizable offer. If he refuses, move on.
He hasn't signed, so anything is possible.

Could it be within the realm of possibility that he is in fact using New Orleans in an attempt to play hard to get with Miami in hopes of squeezing out every last penny that he can from us?

He knows we have a ton of cap space and I'm pretty sure he's aware of the Saints cap problems.

So one must ask if his 'wanting to stay home' act is all a game?

Would explain why we'd take issue with the reports about him not wanting to be a Dolphin if management and the client have indeed been in serious negotiations this whole time.

Any contract offer needs to be a reasonable price for what your getting, who cares who your up against! We would completely pouch ourselves over paying everyone. Over pay young studs, I can live with that, not guys looking for that last big contract.
