Strief to Miami?....

I have heard some fans who think we're ready for the draft now. Some seem to think we only needed a few additions and the draft.

I haven't seen those who have said that. I think for the most part the start has been good to free agency, and I do mean start. By far the biggest hole and hardest one to fill was the left tackle. Hickey took care of that minutes after the start of free agency with arguably the best left tackle on the free agent market. Mitchell, Delmas, Shelley have been pretty good additions and if Finnegan can recapture some of his magic maybe he becomes a steal. Finnegan is the biggest question mark so far.

Getting Starks back for that contract was pretty impressive. Also after seeing some of the contracts the cornerbacks are getting on the market it makes Grimes' contract look that much better.

There are still some holes and areas that could use upgrading. I don't think anyone is happy enough to the point where they want to pack things up until the draft. I still want them to add at least one more starting offensive lineman in free agency, so at most we would have one rookie on the line. At this point in free agency is when you start to find some bargains. Remember it wasn't until three weeks into free agency last year when they got Grimes.

So far the process has been been good, but certainly not finished.

Sounds desperate like the Pats and Broncos.

Why on Earth would Hickey and Aponte waste four million in cap money?

Strief is nothing special. He is a solid RT, that is all.

This draft is absolutely loaded with RTs, which is the way the Saints are almost sure to go after wasting all that money on Byrd.

Nate Garner can play RT if need be.

Patience.

You have the money spend it. What your suggesting is ultimately your happy being about 18M under the cap after rookies are signed (from the latest numbers I have seen), how does that make sense? People appreciate being "frugal" and smart in signings BUT the next big contract we see is Tannehill's in two years (by then the cap will be raise too I believe). Why sit on all that money? If the argument was between player "A" and player "B" that is a argument we can have but suggesting Nate Garner can do anything puts us in line to have last years problems again, Albert goes down and we suck again.

As for rookies they have no baring on whither or not to sign free agents. They are on fixed rookie contracts and they will extend more than the 2-3 years we sign guys like Strief. Rookies are a huge risk so you are better off hoping to find a starter in a guy you drafted to develop rather than hoping to find a starter straight off the draft, to me that is the smart way of thinking at least...and not bank 18M when it can be used.

Also, again as it has been pointed out. Joe doesn't have time to develop guy as they are starting. Some teams have reason to be more aggressive in free agency like the Pats and Broncos, being to win now. The Dolphins also have reason to be aggressive and that is so people keep their jobs and the owner gets some breathing room from the fans.

That being said I thing two moves make us a immediate playoff contender (along with who we draft) that is sign Strief and sign Hauschka.

do both. cant lose long term. the key is to sign strife for one year, let him have an open door. yet make some money. draft his replacement. let people grow. goodnight Irene.

Saints barely have money to sign their rookies lol Jeez what a mess that Brees' contract has turned out for them..... they're in cap hell, Jimmy Graham is pissed off at his "tight end" tag... and they're not even better than the Panthers and the Falcons and the Buccs aren't that far away talent wise. Only difference the Saints' have over the Falcons and Buccs is Brees. Put Brees in a Buccs uniform and they're competing in the NFC title game..

Add to that there is no way Brees changes a word in that contract. He fought for it and the Saints have no leverage. Saints have no cash, need to pay elite talent, and Strief is replaceable. I'd like him in Miami though.

They can restructure. No reason Brees wouldn't go along with it as it's to his benefit. Of course, it would only complicate things more for the Saints in coming years.

If I were Hickey, I would put an offer on the table which would make it very difficult for the Saints to compete with. However, I would but a deadline on the deal. As much as I would love this guy in a Dolphins uniform, there are plenty of RTs in the draft and we still need to find a good veteran RB and sign Devin Hester. Hickey has to make agents respect his negotiating skills, I'm sick of agents using the Dolphins as leverage!

Ok, so what is the bottom line on this guy? Are we or are we not trying to land this guy? If so just do it already and concentrate on the other areas we need. Sheesh, all this "we are landing him"; "he doesn't want to come to miami"; "he wants to stay in N.O.". Ok we get it either s**t or get off the pot already. He isn't that valuable. would he be a nice fit, yes but not worth all this.

Wrong. Its a guy who doesn't want to leave New Orleans. Big difference, and a rarity in the modern NFL.

Think so?
We mentioned earlier in the day that the Dolphins were interested in talking to Saints right tackle Zach Strief.

He, on the other hand, seems less interested.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Strief told the Dolphins he wasn’t interested in coming for a visit, without giving a reason.

His agent cleared that up saying it had nothing to do with Miami.

All this has bad fit written all over it. So, he doesn't want to come to Miami because he's so in love with the Saint. Whats next they decide not to give him what he wants and then he reluctantly decides to come to Miami?

Go kick freaking rocks...no more signing players that aren't even luke-warm about playing for us.

You know sometimes I think Media guys like him are playing the odds more so than bias, so that they can look they can say "SEE I GOT IT RIGHT!" Look at the list of teams he shows disdain for, none have done anything in over a decade and some are downright tire fires. But if you side with teams like the Patriots, 49ers, Seahawks who are ascending or have ascended you can pretty much back any play they do because right now they do things well and are less prone to foolish mistakes so to make himself look good, a guy LaCanfora just front runs for the time being. and in my opinion almost sports media journalism is pretty much all concern trolling fan bases

Darren Sharper appears to be a serial rapist, he worked for NFL Network, not a peep about what is going on with him, then of course there is the Dolphins "Bullygate" 3 months of grief for what happened.
Pats Hernandez is accused of murder, nothing happens no talk, Miami media sucking up to Bill and putting down the Dolphins FO.
Cheating like the Pats did or Bounties on opposing players like the Saints is about their coaches and organizations, NO coach comes back lets celebrate,
Pats sign a guy who was suspended indefinitely and now for 4 games and of course a brilliant move by the Pats, The ****ing Patriot way.
