Strief to Miami?....

You know I really think Hickey is doing Strief and his agent a solid right now. We all know he wants to stay so Hickey could easily say we are not interested in him anymore and then they have absolutely no leverage at all with the saints. And I'm sure the agent will remember that in the future. Plus I really don't remember doing press conferences for signed and re-signed players and now we are. I think that is good bc it strokes the ego of these guys. Where Hickey might lack in experience he makes up for in people skills.

Go Dolphins!!!

We want players who want to be here. Clearly Strief wants to stay in New Orleans. If things change, he can come back to us....but stop pursuing him.....

All right, guys, we'll stop talking about Strief since it's hampering the front office's efforts in other areas. :rolleyes2:

Geez, the people here. Sometimes I get the feeling some believe finheaven actually runs the team.

At this point, offer your top $. The position is a need, and we have the money. We can't make a guy that doesn't want to be here come. Just go all in & see if it's good enough. If he doesn't bite, we have to be content with it.

Make him a generous offer and let him consider it. Not much else can be done.
His family(wife/parents) might not want to live in Miami, and have his kids grow up there. Perfectly understandable if they prefer another area of the country due to family etc.
Put the offer out there and move on.

Wasn't Tyson Clabo the #2 rated RT in 2012?

I'm not sold on these "rankings" being the end all be all of linemen. I'd prefer someone who fits the scheme that new O-Line coach is trying to execute.

I liked Strief, but lets not make out he is some all pro that is cannot miss.

Draft Morgan Moses. Moses has a long, long career ahead of him.

If Martin isnt there at 19 i hope they trade down and get a guy like Moses, Yankey, or Su'a Filo.

No, I don't give a damn whether or not a player wants to be here. All I want is for him to play like an All-Pro SOB when he is here.

Most players today have no allegiance to the city or team on which they are playing. They only want to be paid more than the next guy.

So make the guy an offer he can't refuse. Get him here. And expect him to play like an All-Pro when he is here.

I hope we don't trade down. How many times have we gambled hoping our targeted prospect will be there only to get burned? Worst still, that prospect seems to only get selected a few spots before we pick! Just to mock us and make it hurt that much more.

If you want someone just friggin pick him. No cute stuff! Especially if for a crucial position of need.

The Miami Dolphins have shown serious interest in Strief but he's turned down offers to visit. What free agent does that - turns away the opportunity with another team - unless they're very certain they're going to be taken care of by their current team? It's gonna happen. And they might as well make it a long-term deal, maybe a five-year contract. Strief will be 31 years old in August, entering the final phase of his NFL career. Drafted in 2006, he is one of the few guys still on the Saints roster since the Payton era started. That speaks volumes. Besides, a long contract would allow the Saints to spread the money out over time, making it very cap friendly for 2014.

The Saints should, and most likely will, get a deal done soon with Zach Strief.

Think it ends soon and NO announces the re-signing.

Free-agent right tackle Zach Strief’s representative on Friday said it “looks like we’re moving” toward some kind of re-signing deal with the Saints; but nothing was at all finalized, and he didn’t expect it to be before at least Monday.

“Been talking with Saints,” Strief’s agent, Ralph Cindrich, wrote via email. “Looks like we’re moving there. Nothing to look at. Zach is out of town.

Cindrich noted he had also talked to other teams about his client. He made his remarks following a widely-circulated Miami Herald report that said Strief declined an invitation to visit the Dolphins. “Never had any visits set up” anywhere, Cindrich wrote.

It' a shame about Strief, but it's time to move the attention elsewhere.

The beauty of how deep this draft is if the guy you want gets taken its so deep you get the next guy. you miss moses as a target you get Yankey, miss both get su'a filo, miss all three you get any other of the great quality lineman in this years draft.

If they have any chance at all in this years draft they should move down with how good the depth is. A 5th rounder this year is like a third. a late second is like a mid 1st.

Not to mention realistically if Ireland wanted a guy and he didnt get taken beforehand he probably would have still made a bad pick.
