Support For Joe Philbin

No, here's the buzzkill: you ever seen that movie Groundhog Day? Being a fan of this team is like being Bill Murray in that movie. I wake up every morning and want to smash the alarm clock when I realize that Jeff Ireland is still eating crayons in the romper room over in Davie.

I like the way this guy puts it: "our old friend mediocrity"

The players on O and D often times look confused, miscommunication, misreads, missed tackles, missed ball placement, missed pocket movement. Philbin [wants] attention to detail, finesse, smart play, professionalism. Like many elite clubs we can think of. But that is not the team we're getting week after week, and that's his job and his staff's to provide a basis for that. The talent might not be there at every needed position with a GM like Ireland, but no NFL team is perfect.

I agree.

I don't like some of the personel moves we made in the offseason at all, but with the talent on the roster right now, we have enough to win. Look at TB, they won with a 3 or 4th string running back, and a backup QB. Schiano's over there grabbing a player who made a costly mistake, then the assistant coach grabbed him right afterwards and coached him up. I look over at our sideline and nobody's talking to players, in any game, not just this one. I gave Philbin a pass from the first year, being detached, because he was new. But he's not brand new anymore, this is just HIM, his style. Sherman? He's up in the booth, so no leadership there. Where is the leadership and coaching that Philbin talked about so much when he was hired? When I saw him on the couch with players on hard knocks, it was so obvious how uncomfortable he is, and he was rambling. I'm not seeing anything that screams master teacher, master communicator, master scheme-maker. This team always seems unprepared to me.

And not that I want to listen to national media as some sort of guru, but they did question several coaching moves, such as moving practice to earlier in the week. They questioned the coaches having enough time to prepare, and the players rested enough to hit hard in practice. Media were shocked when camp started also, when we ran that fast-practice shiit. Veterans on the team like Reggie Bush were saying, this is crazy, we need to catch our breath. But, Reggie's not on the team anymore, so it doesn't matter, I guess.

And speaking of former players, not only is Bush lighting it up, but Jake Long is playing well, and Vonte is playing real well, and judgment of those players comes from Philbin, not Ireland. Ireland brought those people here. Philbin made an assessment and said, Vonte pees too much and Bush isn't playing well enough for his scheme. (Didn't he bench Bush at one point???). So how is the running game without Bush right now, must be better, right? How is our run defense after getting rid of our linebackers...must be better, right?

It's like Cam Cameron all over again, except that Cam was a real offensive mind, Philbin is a JAG from Green Bay who was never Offensive Coordinator and never developed any quarterbacks. I put my ear up real close when we hired Joe, to listen to what everyone in Green Bay said when he was departing. And the words they used didn't exactly equate to "steal" or "genius" or "big loss" for Green Bay. They said a lot of, "couldn't happen to a better guy," and "Joe deserves it, he put in his time," that sort of thing. They respect him, but we weren't exactly stealing arnsparger or schnellenberg. Who Ross wanted, was Harbaugh, the up-and-coming coach. We didn't get that kind of coach.

I have been for Joe, but if this season goes the way it looks like it's going I'm for cleaning house.
