Idk if anybody watched the raiders vs saints game last night but this kid Taiwan Jones was impressive, he is a 4th rd pick for the raiders this year, he ran with speed and confidence, very elusive, good balance and broke some tackles, i dont understand how a no name kid like this could look so good and thomas can look so bad so far.

Not that I'm happy with Thomas because I would have prefered Delone Carter and Roy Helu over him but...have you seen our freakin O-line play? Barry Sanders would have trouble getting 2 yards per carry behind this crap O-line Ireland and Sparano have put together.

yea the whole right side is a complete joke, they should of told carey before the lockout started to drop some weight or he will be cut and keep him at RT and signed davin joseph or carl nicks, the fact that columbo is even on this team is a complete joke, that taiwan jones kid made a lot out of nothing last night though, a lot of plays were blown up in the backfield and he turned it into a positive gain, personally I still wish we took ingram, he looks the part of a true workhorse running back, nice compact body, runs hard, can break tackles, we always try to play the safe route.

Delone Carter also doing very well.

I think 50% of Thomas' slow start is the O-line and the other 50% is Thomas himself. It's too early to make any predictions about the merits of the pick though.

its never too early to evaluate a rb pick- they, more so than other positions, are supposed to have the easiest transition and produce right away.

yea i live in syracuse and delone carter is a straight beast, in the pinstripe bowl he straight did work and outperformed thomas head to head.

Wouldn't the safe route have been to select M.Ingram?

Pretty tough to come to a conclusion on a player with a limited offseason and obviousily horrible oline play. Just as it's tough to annoint M.Ingram anything yet, at least his oline is one of the best in the NFL.

Yeah but O-line has a higher priority on the list for this regime than RB. I think they've displayed that over the last 4 years.

I wanted Carl Nicks as well but he was a restricted free agent so it would have cost us a high draft pick to sign him.

kinda hard to properly evaluate Thomas with the crappy holes he gets
in the passing game Thomas looks more comfortable running
if thomas could put on some more muscle
and block better maybe he could be a fullback or tight-end
with bush that would be an effective pass unit :p

I like Jones..his speed really stood out...Ronnie Brown didnt start fast either..I think he just needs oppurtunites...The O line is awful tho...It looks worse than last year..

Taiwan Jones looked terrific. Helu looked very promising. We knew that this year's draft was deep in RB talent. We knew that both Ronnie and Ricky were set to depart and that we would need to draft at least one RB. We have now had a stream of rumors appear on Rotoworld that the coaching staff is very disappointed with Daniel Thomas (not a good sign when the coach or coaches are deliberately leaking). Presumably we have top scouts who know what to look for, but even reading the draft magazines, there were lots of warnings that Thomas is not as strong as his build would suggest, that he was ineligible to play one year in college because of "academic reasons" (not a good sign).
Hopefully, Daniel Thomas makes progress and can be a contributor but the string of rumors that the coaching staff is disappointed, is a concern. He may just be a slow learner but Ireland/Sparano have nobody to blame but themselves re DT.
Raiders and Redskins both look like they picked up gems...

Or is it just the latest 2nd round bust by this regime?
