Talked to Jamar Taylor

I'm sure Peyton Manning thought about quitting.

I can be sure he didnt and you can be sure he did but neither of us know the truth. My point is not what we think but instead the FACTS. Taylor publicly stated he thought about quitting while Manning did not publicly state he thought about quitting. With these facts one can reasonably deduce that Taylor thought about it and Manning didnt moreso than Taylor thought about it and Manning thought about it.

Maybe the person who claims he didn't should do a little research before he posts such claims, i.e. - from http://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...3b5ca6-3a55-11e3-b7ba-503fb5822c3e_story.html:

I see what youre saying, however where in your post did manning say he was close to retirement or that he thought about quitting because Im reading the same thing you are and nowhere does manning state that he thought about quitting.

Again, if you've never thought about quitting something, you've never done anything all that difficult or challenging; or you're just a liar. Taylor's biggest mistake was admitting it and allowing such people to feel falsely superior.

This is really what it comes down to. Taylor publicly stating it. Had he not his mental toughness and willingness to play wouldnt be in question and we wouldnt be having this conversation right now

I seriously doubt its a thought that every athlete goes through in their rookie season. I doubt Peyton thought about quitting in his rookie year. Im glad that he seemingly has manned up and wants to succeed. Hopefully he doesnt revert back to wanting to quit

I DO NOT CONCUR

Excluding the stress of making the team and rookie hazing, the competition to even make the 53 man roster is fierce. Peyton, Luck, and RGIII were drafted to be starters/franchise QB. But for several other rookies, there are no guarantees..... Also most of them are not from Miami so it's a new city, new life, new environment. There are tons of reasons that could make you quit and do something else to feed your family.

Uh, so you mean when his dad says he was "closer to retirement than anyone knew", you're saying Peyton himself actually had full blinders on and wasn't thinking about retirement at all? Ok, well then explain this quote from Peyton himself about his rehab:

(from http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1209439/3/index.htm )

"When I was on [before the surgery], I was shocked when the ball didn't go exactly where I wanted," Manning says. "It got to the point [after surgery] where I was shocked when it did go where I wanted." Driving back to Cutcliffe's [his trainer's] house one evening, he asked, 'Should I even be doing this?' "

I think we all agree though - Taylor's big mistake was talking out loud about the possibility of quitting in the present tense. It's one thing to think something and another thing to tweet it (ask Don Jones).

He didnt tweet it.. he answered a question..
I have no issue with this at all..
All of the sudden people are scared and dont like hearing the truth...
Its how he really felt.. whats the difference if he says it aloud or not?
Its how he felt... I would of loved if J. Mart would of let it be known before he did.

Sounds like we should have passed on him in draft, much to high to take a guy with risks like that. He was never an elite prospect in first place so why take a chance
I concur. He's very sensitive, extremely religious and probably a high maintenance item. Hopefully he puts last year behind him now he's fully healthy and we see what we've got. He needs to show something in Training Camp or Will Davis or Walt Aikens will overtake him. Davis is a bit of a boom or bust prospect but if he gets his confidence up, is physically strong enough to compete and starts making interceptions, don't be surprised if he comes good. He is also very impressive in the interviews.

Well I dont say that due to his religion or even being sensitive but clearly he was and probably is damaged goods. dolphins love to overpay for damaged goods.
He does come across as soft the way he is portrayed then even worse seems sensitive about it but still my only concern is that he is damaged goods.

Are you still living in Boise? I've always been a fan of his, and was beyond thrilled when we took him. I met him at Fattys bar when he was down for the Boise St. spring game, very down to earth guy.

Notso, I live in Honolulu, Hawaii now. Been here for 6 years, but I do visit Boise every Fall for my fantasy football draft with my buddies, haha. Gives me a reason to go visit. Been changing a lot!

I wish I could have watched him play in person during those years so I'd have a much bigger insight on his play.

People are saying he was being rude in his response to me...but I realize that my message was only the 1000th time hes had someone bring it up...and I'm sure hes getting sick of it. His response, as well as thanks is enough to validate what you had to say about him :)

You didn't respond to me before, but you still seem hell bent on your position. Just thought I'd throw some FACTS at you from the same article someone posted on here.

Nothing was perfect anymore. "It was hard to watch," Manning recalls. "I was disappointed, I was down, because I wasn't able to do what I love and I didn't know where I was headed. I didn't know if I'd ever be able to perform again. I had those thoughts. They were real." The nerve was so ravaged in the summer of '11 that he couldn't push himself out of bed. He couldn't lift a three-pound dumbbell.

Seems to me that he makes it very clear he had those thoughts, but just didn't publicly announce it AT THE TIME. He did, however, acknowledge that he had those same exact thoughts that "every athlete has at one point or another" - as Jamar Taylor just put it when he addressed my comment.

The thing to take from all of this? Jamar Taylor's self doubts are no different than any other athlete that is competing in the highest level of competition in his/her chosen sport. He just chose to inform a local reporter about his thoughts and the media blew it up...something Manning precisely avoided because....he is PEYTON MANNING. These are things you learn in time, and the kid is a rookie. I don't blame him for having those thoughts, or for being foolish enough to let the world know. He will learn to keep these types of things to himself as he gets more and more in the spotlight.

And there is nothing wrong with it at all.
