Tannehill and Wallace

This was something that I was a little surprised with...

Typically Tannehill does a good job spreading the ball around, but he seemed to look for Wallace all game. Granted it is hard from the TV to tell if that is what New England was giving him, but it seemed....different. I was waiting for Gibby to get involved or mr stick'em, but it never really happen.

they both did the job when called upon with a couple of key third down conversions. gotta love when people step up when their number is called even if they hadn't been involved up until that point. on that note didn't gator catch his first nfl pass early in the game?

No. You said he had to be perfect, I didn't.

I said throw to the spots that are Wallace's strengths.

He's a body catcher who needs "space", not tip toeing in the back of the endzone. You're asking too much of him. It is what it is, so why even throw those passes to him?

He was three yards from the back of the endzone and he should have been two feet from the sideline. Discuss the play without exaggerating.

At this point, I wish he hadn't turned for the ball. It would have hit him in the ear hole.

I don't know about that, but here is the audio:

Joe Rose show from Sept. 9. Skip to 82:15. So there's the head coach on the play.

All afternoon I have this fictitious conversation between Wallace and Tannehill going through my head.

Wallace - Hey Ryan, remember that pass in the endzone when I was ruled out?

Tannehill - You mean the one when I was scrambling for my life from that hippo Wilfork and I threw it forty yards on the run?

Wallace - Yeah. Coach said it was 6 inches off target, so..... It's on you.

holy crap all this about one pass?

didn't wallace deliver big for us that game?

didn't him and tannehill at least show some signs of progress if not by chemistry then at least by lazor's scheme helping them coordinate their strengths?

didn't we just beat the Patriots in the season opener? and score 33 points?

I can't even imagine what the dialogue would be if we lost this game.....I think this scheme is going to help both of them get more production, and I think everyone is splitting hairs here trying to put the blame on one guy. Philbin was the most accurate, reasonable one of all. EVERYONE needs to get better, EVERY WEEK.

True enough as coach said, we know it's always more than one thing, the line protection and the route, but if you got eyes, you could see the ball was out of bounds. Wallace made a good catch. Tannehill needs to calm down on those balls to the sideline, but I heard there was a wind that may have carried it right those 6 inches. The flags on the goal posts showed a slight wind left to right.

Don't you mean, "Hey Ryan, remember that pass in the endzone when Mike was ruled out?"

i'm questioning if you have eyes. I have nfl game rewind, and have watched that play a dozen times. the ball was not out of bounds. he caught the ball in bounds on his chest. He just didn't drag his feet to stay in bounds.

the ball and wallace's momentum was out of bounds.. there was no need to throw that type of pass when he was that wide open with no one around him. wallace had to adjust to that ball. he was way ahead of revis and tannehill decided to throw a fade route type pass. tannehill just made it more difficult than it had to be..thats my only complaint on that play.

Wallace's momentum is all on Wallace. he could have ran straight down the sideline and caught the ball with his hands. instead, he started leaning out of bounds and caught the ball with his chest.

Wallace's momentum is on the law of gravity.

he could have ran straight down the sideline and caught the ball with his hands.

He adjusted from three yards away from the sideline to the sideline when the whole endzone was as open as Wallace was.

instead, he started leaning out of bounds and caught the ball with his chest.

He adjusted to a poorly thrown ball and caught it and got one foot in bounds and at that speed couldn't drag the other foot.

Oh man! it seems like alot of people were well prepared to bitch and moan bout the loss to the Pats... The WIN caught everybody off guard and now they just have to let all that built up anger out any way possible...

Beating a dead horse here, but if you watch the replay again, he did take a pretty big step out of bounds. Remember this isn't some scrub wideout. He's one f the highest payed guys at his position. That's a routine catch for a practice squad WR. For a WR that believes he's one of the best in the game, I guarantee you he puts the blame solely on himself for that play. He makes that catch 9 out of 10 times in practice. He made a mental mistake and that's that's the only reason that play didn't result in points on the board.

..... and nor should anyone expect him to due that competently.

Unfortunately Ireland gave the man ridiculous money out of desperation for a vertical threat. He was not a polished receiver. He was the beneficiary of many improvisations by Big Ben extending plays. If people want a toe drag catch in the back of the endzone, we're better off attempting that with any of our other WR's. This offense has to know the strengths of the skill players it puts out there and then our QB has to spread it around according to that.

Does Wallace have 9 foot long feet?
