Unfortunately Ireland gave the man ridiculous money out of desperation for a vertical threat. He was not a polished receiver. He was the beneficiary of many improvisations by Big Ben extending plays. If people want a toe drag catch in the back of the endzone, we're better off attempting that with any of our other WR's. This offense has to know the strengths of the skill players it puts out there and then our QB has to spread it around according to that.

well, because of how he caught the ball, with his chest, waiting for the ball to get into his body, he had to drag his feet to score. if he caught the ball at the highest point, he could have continued in stride down the sideline. the ball was not thrown too high, where he had to jump up. it was thrown right around his head/chest area. he just had to snag the ball out of the air, and continue to run straight. but because he waited, he started to fall towards the sideline. It really was a lack of awareness of the sideline. and i know he likes to catch the ball on his body, but he has caught passes with his hands, so there's really no excuse.

You're arguing for the sake of arguing. Mike Wallace isn't some terrible NFL wideout that can't make routine back of the endzone, or toe dragging sideline catches. Lack of awareness is the only reason he wasn't able to drag his feet. That's a catch he can make and I'm sure he's made similar catches in the past. A quick YouTube search shows that he's capable of making somewhat acrobatic catches.

So with Wallace's skill set, he's incapable of catching any ball that he has to adjust for, or drag his feet to stay in bounds? I disagree with you on that one. I'm pretty sure he would disagree with you. And if that were true, he wouldn't be on an NFL roster.
 
Just listened to Tuesday's Finsiders podcast. Chris Chambers left no doubt that he thought Wallace should have made that play. He was emphatic.

Every former player I've heard chime in on it agrees that that was on Wallace. As I said, there are a LOT of throws where I think Tannehill screwed the pooch in that game, but that one? No.

Tannehill took a lot of heat last season for the deep ball issues (rightfully so). It would have been nice to start the season with two deep ball TDs. Hopefully next game.

I decided to spring for the whole Game Rewind package for the coach's film. Here are the relevant frames for looking at when the ball was thrown:

This is where Tannehill wanted to setup for the throw. He is just setting his feet.

This is where he started his throw after avoiding Wilfork. He isn't even able to set his feet because he know that he needs to throw it right now. He has just avoided pressure, with nifty footwork while maintaining his focus down field.

He's not off-balance in this first picture. Should've planted right here, anticipated, and thrown the ball to a spot as dictated by this offensive philosophy instead of waiting to pull the trigger AFTER the double move. Tanny needs to show confidence in his players that they will get there. The deliberation allowed Wilfork even more pressure and less room in the endzone for Wallace to work with.

Just rip it Tanny. That's all you need to do. Stop relying on your arm to squeeze in throws. Occasionally he's going to have to take a hit for stepping into a throw like that, but all QB's do. They can't go for the knees or head anymore, so I'm not sweating it.

:idk: WTF are you talking about? If he doesn't move, he never gets the throw off. Stop arguing for the sake of arguing. Try watching a play.

Agree, and there was another throw from the pocket where he could not step into it due to pressure but, cannot recall the specific play. As posted in another thread, Tannehill was 18 of 30 but, threw the ball away twice and had 3 drops. That's being accurate on 21 of 28 throws (75%). Some do not understand why he got a good grade as they do not look past the surface of what he did.

I count Wallace with 3 drops by himself. The catch out of bounds in the endzone, the ball that hit him in the face, and the failure to come back for the ball on 3rd and 11. That's about 60 yards in passing right there. Add Sims' TD drop for 30 more and a TD. Add Clay's drop for 20 - 30 yards. Add Landry's drop for 10 yards. While some are quick to point out that every team has drops, they fail to recognize that every QB throws inaccurate passes.

Despite being inaccurate on some throws (I counted 5) in the first half, he could have easily been 24 of 30 for 300 yards and 4 TDs. I suspect the haters would still not find that good enough. BTW, that is a QB rating of 134.

I did watch the play. There's 5 yards between he and Wilfork at the point Wallace begins his break on the double move. So I dunno WTF you're talking about.

He can't throw it until Wallace starts his break back up field. Learn some football before responding.
