Tannehill Needs To Start From Day 1

Yes, yes, yes yes. I have been saying the same. He knows the offense..it's his old coach! If he can't beat out Moore and garrard, then it was a bad pick. Especially when kuechly is on the board. My god, we passed on a complete god at MLB. Our defense would be insane with him.

Start the rookie because he earns it, or the pick is horrible.

Willis was a complete god at MLB. He was more hurt passing than Kuechly

It would be one thing to actually have a guy for Tannehill to learn from, but we don't, we have an UDFA who failed in Carolina and had some succes here last year, and Garrard who has had some succes in JAX, but never played in WCO, and we want our top 10 pick watching and learning from them? The guy is head and shoulders above these two already. He lacks the experience that Garrard and Moore have, yeah, but TH has way more talent and upside, seems to be a quick learner from watching the Marriuci videos and the Gruden videos....I don't think he has a lot to learn from the starter we currently have. If went to a team where they had an estableished and consistent mid 30's QB, where he could actually learn something from, then yes he should sit.

I'm not saying he should start day 1, he needs to take the job and take it away with confidence from the other two guys. Which I believe he can, may take half the year, ala Marino, the dude can play and has talent, we now really need some offensive playmakers, offensive protectors and passrushers and cover guys...we all know what we need. Watching the draft unfold there is going to be some great talent available from now to the fourth round it seems. We HAVE got to hit our 2nd and 3rd round picks!

Not even gonna read the post or the other threads. THIS MAY BE THE STUPIDIST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD.

Rant over!

And how was Dalton ruined by starting right away last year? Thats what I thought.
Huge difference. Dalton played a ton. Do you even know a thing about the QB they just selected?

We have to hope our 1st round pick can sit for a season and then become a NFL caliber QB in his 2nd season....

I'm so excited

We could of had Luke Kuechly and he would of started and might be defensive rookie of the year

I agree but this move tells me Ross is willing to let Ireland implement rebuild phase 1A.

I think your right. If we had an established quarterback, I would say yeah sit him for a year. But, with what we have at the qb position, Moore and Garrard, I think if he plays at a similar level as they do in camp then there is no reason to sit him. Sure, he'll make mistakes but that is something you must live with if you want him to improve. I for one am willing to live through the mistakes it if it leads to a long term solution.

I swear a lot of you guys need to get a clue. Dude played more WR than QB in college. Does anyone else know Philbin and Sherman's track record? Tannehill will not start day 1 barring a huge oh it just clicked miracle. He was drafted because he has prototypical QB attributes with a lot of room for improvement. It will take him awhile to understand the intangibles of the postition. This pick is a look for the future type move pure and simple. There comes a point that a team says screw it we have to bite the bullet sometime and make a real commitment. Ross did this. He is does not care if we win the Super Bowl next year or 6 years from now, but he does want to win one. And the agonizing approach to the QB postition made him say lets get 1 and develop him. I am sure Sherman, Ireland, and Philbin all made it clear as day that he will be a project, and that they believed he had the potential to be the next Aaron Rodgers and Ross said OK lets do it.

Not 1 of these guys said he can start and perform at a high level week 1 2012. GUARANTEED!

**** no. Moore will be more effective than a rookie Tannehill and it's better for Ryan to sit and learn.

Not gonna happen. They drafted this guy to sit on the bench and learn for 1 or 2 years. I like the pick but also thinking it is a high risk and might turn out to be a bad one in the end. But let's see first :)

VERY well said.

I just hope everyone understands the NFL is a different league after the rookie pay scale. There is no longer a crush of pressure on top 15 picks to start like there was in the past. However after typing that, if he mentally has the offense down, I don't think sitting on the bench will help him or the team. The only way for him to truly get better will be to actually play and run the offense.

I'm just glad, in theory, they don't have to start him until they really feel he is ready for it. I'll trust Sherman and Philbin to decide when that is.

it would be a huge mistake to let RT start from day one..... How many good QB prospects have been ruined by clubs that didn't give them the time to develop (David Carr, Vince Young, Matt Lienart, Mark Sanchez,?)

Well that makes this pick even more of a risk then. My point is if you draft the guy at #8, he better start and perform well from the get go. Otherwise they shouldn't have drafted him that high. Luck and Griffin will start from day 1. Cam Newton started from day 1 last year and did quite well. If Tannehill can't beat out Moore or Garrard with his college coach as the OC, then he shouldn't have been the pick at #8, period!

exactlly what i have been saying. At pick 8 u need an instant starter regardless of the position. If hes not a guy u think can come in and instantly make this team better at whatever position then is a bad pick. Now this really puts pressure on them to draft 2-3 guys in the next 3-4 rounds that have to come on this team and produce because with our current roster we might have a top 5 pick next season aswell. And i would hate to pass on Barkley next year cuz we have Tanny sitting on our bench waiting to get "groomed" for who knows how many years. the 27 pick can sit and learn but a top ten guy needs to play right away and help his team. And sorry its not like we have a furture HOF teaching this kid. we have moore and gerrard, two guys new to the offense and not exactlly good QBs.

You must have thought Cam Newton would be a star after Florida kicked him off their team and out of there school for bad behavior following his Junior year.
