Tannehill Needs To Start From Day 1

Marino probably should have started from Day One, and Rodgers had the benefit of having Brett Favre starting in front of him. Apples and oranges.

And both those guys weren't drafted in the top 10, they were drafted in the bottom of the first round.

So...we need a QB...weve all said it for...how long now? Then in the first round...at #8...we take a QB. And you guys want him to sit BEHIND 2 backup QBs to.......learn??? The only thing hes going to learn from sitting and watching moore and garrard is that they should be sitting and watching him. For whatever the reason he was taken at #8...they saw him worthy of a first round-top 10 pick. The only thing moore and garrard should be battling for..is the 2nd spot. This team has been a clusterf*ck for waaaaay too long. Let him walk out there and do what you spent your #8 pick for him to do. We dont need to START winning 3 years from now...we need to start winning now.

Exactly!

If he's not ready, then why draft him in a position of need?

Because our owner and GM said they would be aggressive in improving the QB position this off season. Manning didn't want to give Miami the time of day. Ireland has mismanaged the salary cap for a team with little blue-chip talent and tried to low-ball Flynn who chose Seattle over Miami. So the Dolphins got stuck with signing a 34 year old coming off of back surgery and only other option was to sign with the Rams as a backup. Fan base has voice their displeasure by lack of ticket sales. Owner/GM are desperate and have to sell the promise of a young QB in order to generate some optimism and put some butts in the seats...pretty much a blueprint for how NOT to run a franchise as they have to reach for a developmental player player with the #8 pick in the draft.

That way it wont be a pos of need next yr and the yr after and the yr after. It's called Prior Planning. So site back and enjoy the ride cause this is who we are rolling with.

PPPPPP

And if he turns out to be a bust, your back to square one again.

Or picking him at #8 was a failure. I don't want to hear about how he needs to sit and learn for a year or two. If he can't beat out Moore and Garrard, he wasn't worth picking at #8. Its that simple. Guys like Dalton did well starting from day 1 last year, Tannehill needs to do the same.

Well, Dalton had 40 some starts as a QB at the NCAA level. Tanny has had 19 at that level. He may need time to develop more, that is what all the pundits have been saying. He may slip right in as our starter, but that's for another discussion on another day. While most drafts, you have to figure your first rounder needs to start day one, QB is a different case. It's certainly too soon to mandate that he has to start now or be a bust. If he's an all pro in 3 yrs will you think the same way ??

True enough...could be. Absolutely impossible to predict that tonight though...

Nobody knows how he will play until he starts. Its the ssame with leaders in the military, they throw them into the fire and see if they can lead men!

Did people just think that Brady couldn't do it, I mean the dude was on a decent team, a 6th round pick, and was thrown in the fire.....I remember when Bledsoe went down I was laughing my faceoff! Not so funny all these years later. In the perfect scenario sitting him ala Steve Mcnair sounds like the exact thing to do for a young QB. A few things are going for this kid right now, he knows the offense better than any of the QB's on the roster, he is FAR more athletic than they are, has more talent, and more upside and potential than they do. Cam Newtown came in with 13 games, and what 11 games in JUCO....and set the world on fire, Dalton stepped in and played far better than most envisioned. Some guys need time to develop, and some guys dont. Tannehill may appear to be a guy that would need time to develop, but with his abilities and talent he has right now, make him a viable day 1 starter. I'd love for him to learn how to be a professional, how to have loads of money, fame, attention, and to learn the speed and the playbook, and most importantly win the hearts of his entire team! If he comes in right away and does that who's to say he cant?

We have a country have no qualms having E-4's and E-5's leading troops into combat, having the nation on their sleeves held up to the highest forms of accountability, all the while paying them peanuts, oh and what tax free and hostile pay......which we love by the way!

People can surprise when they dont appear to be that guy, and some never show the promise that encompass them! Put him in the fire initially see what he does.....he's got some major athletic advantages right now over the QB's we got, plus the dude is super smart, plus we know the dude has some serious swag and confidence you see the hottie with him! anyways your thoughts.......

For those of us who are a bit older, we also remember the days before FA that a drafted QB almost always sat for a couple years or more before they started...But this day and age of a need for instant gratification usually ends up with guys not getting the right shot they should (see Chad Henne)...as well as coaches and GMs...

Just have to trust the coaches will know the right time

I do not dislike the pick nor do I like it. With that I am part of the unbiased minority and believe if he does not start day one, the pick will not be a waste.. Thats the fact of it.. If he sits this year, and then tears it up next year, will it still be a wasted pick OP????

And if luck or Griffin or who ever you wanted turns out to be Ryan Leaf then your back to square one again. If you try you may fail, but if you never try you will always fail.

I doubt those guys will turn out to be Ryan Leaf. How many people on this board would be estastic right now if they had the chance to draft Luck or Griffin compared to drafting Tannehill? It would be night and day.

Sometimes Leaders are just thrown in the fire but that isn't how the Army or Military like to train its leaders. Leaders are groomed through training and senior mentors on all levels. No leader is purposely just thrown into the fire unless he is in a bad circumstance or has bad leaders leading him.

Never said they would. But you said if he fails back to square one, well that is the same for any plan.
