Tannehill's Deep Post (and although it's been said many times many waysss....)

The OP makes some good points and so does Langer although I think he's got the arm strength when he sets his feet.
My take is with so many misses it a head thing by now. Matt Moore (for example) sees a receiver breaking behind coverage and gets excited knowing he's gonna hit him in stride for the easy TD.
I think Ryan may be thinking oh **** , I gotta make this throw. Once he hits a couple in a game and gets the monkey off his back this should change. We're still waiting for that to happen.

He definitely has the arm strength, remember how frustrated we were with him overthrowing Wallace last year? The trajectory on some of this passes appears to be a major problem. Threw a perfect pass to Sims game one and a good pass to Hartline game two but they seem to be the exception more than the rule.

Meh. I was at a live game in Indy where Peyton Manning got his jaw broken by Lorenzo Bromell and Jay Fiedler hit Chris Chambers deep on a beautiful deep ball in the 4th qtr to win the game 27-23.

Having said that, Fiedler missed so many great play action opportunities deep to Chambers it was sick. Ricky set that offense up so well, but Fiedler left a ton of points on the field when he would miss Chambers wide open for a TD.

He did hit that nice one to Leslie Sheppard in the miracle at the meadowlands too. Maybe that game didnt earn its name because the Jests came back from down 30-7 for the win. Maybe it was because Fiedler actually hit a nice deep ball that night.

But, yea. Fiedler had a better deep ball than Tannehill. Just the fact that I could remember two big ones off the top of my head says a lot. I cant remember Tannehill hitting a perfect deep ball. We got that one to Wallace vs. Carolina, but Wallace made that play.

One thing I remember about Fiedler (as much as he drove me nuts)....I remember he was vying for the starting QB job with Damon Huard. Huard had his moments with the Phins. There were some fans that wanted him to start over Fiedler. In watching the two play, one thing was clear....Fiedler anticipated the receivers' breaks much better and seemed to be able to throw the ball to the spot where the receiver would end up meeting the ball. Huard, on the other hand, never seemed to have that anticipation. I think Tannehill has the same deficiency.

By the way, I was not a Jay Fiedler fan.

The concept of sitting Tannehill to start Moore is like trading in your Ford Taurus to get a Chevy Caprice.

Last night MNF -> I saw Luck throw a sure pick in the EZ that was dropped - **** happens dude

I also saw Luck throw behind WRs... **** happens dude....

STOP THAT! You are not allowed in this forum to compare RT to other qbs that do the same thing that have made the playoffs!!! No, it doesn't matter if the overall team talent helped out or not getting that team to the playoffs. Just stop, get real, and just say that we need need need Journeyman backup Matt Moore to come in and take us to the promised land!

The kid has the tools, he has shown us all that. The question is, will he "flip the switch" and take it to the next level. A remember another QB who came out of the gate rough, Drew Brees. Early on he didn't look so hot, then the light bulb came on. I just don't know if it will happen soon enough for this fanbase. I have a feeling we will cut bait and watch him become a pro bowler for another team in 3 years. I guess we have the season to find out.

Sorry Langer, been to many games QBacked by Fiedler and his long ball sucked big time! That ball would hover so much 3 defenders were always waiting for it. He just had the luxury sometimes of Chambers fighting for the ball.

Well...my comments at 50 yards were borderline exaggeration with Fiedler, but inside 40 yards, he was pretty accurate. He won a lot of games for us.
I would take Fiedlers heart, scrambling ability, passion of the game, and pocket presence,...and his limited arm, over RT or Matt Moore.
The point is that RT is not that great. To put it in an easy to understand way.

TO the OP, I have to disagree with your argument about the QBs not worrying about their throws getting there. There are many reason a QB will watch a throw with great anticipation wondering the results of the play. A QB might wonder if the WR will catch the ball, or if the safety will get over in time or if the wind will get under the throw, that doesn't mean he is not confident in the throw.

Saying you never jumped around wondering the results of a pass while it was in the air puts you in the extreme minority. There is no way you could know the results of a play unless you watch it. The throw is just one part of many to complete a successful pass. To say a QB isn't interested in watching it would be like saying a basketball player isn't interested in his shot after if leaves his hand. Part of their follow through is concentrating on the ball as it leaves their hand all the way to the basket.

Every QB I have ever seen is watching, hoping, or doing whatever, as they concentrate on the ball as it travels down field. How many times have you seen a QB get hit as he releases the ball and still never take his eyes off the ball, or roll over and try to find the ball in the air with his eyes before it gets to it's destination? All QBs watch the ball with great anticipation.

Consistency is an issue, true. But how many of these a game would you be happy with? 1, 2, 3? How often do these highlight bombs connect on other teams (excluding the likes of Peyton Manning) ? So, in light of that, how many of these would you be happy seeing per game? When you answer this truthfully you will see how unreasonable your expectations are of this QB due to the desperate need to have a dominant QB. We were spoiled by Marino, and somewhere deep down Dolphins fans will be happy with nothing less than elite. Which is unlikely...and unreasonable.

I think he may have been jumping up and down hoping it wasn't picked off, not that he might complete it...

Tannehill should happy adjust his own tendencies. Seldom are those deep posts too far or too far in front. He should intentionally aim 5 yards deeper and 5 yards further inside Wallace than he believes is proper. Could it possibly be worse? Even professionals can benefit from that type of thing. On the PGA telecasts Johnny Miller nails tendencies in high regularity. Before an uphill chip into the grain to a flag deep in the green, Miller will say, "This is the type of shot pros leave 10 feet short." And he's correct much more often than not.

Best of all, you don't even have to admit it. Just grin and let the world believe you finally figured it out via extra practice. Fans eat up that garbage.

I'm so envious of the Colts with Luck. You can see he's playing the game, it just oozes off him. He looks like a guy playing one on one basketball with a buddy. Tannehill looks like a guy that's by himself practicing free throws. The game has slowed down for Luck, he understands that he's the guy moving the chess pieces around. Tannehill is still just a piece on the board at this point. Luck is a football player that happens to also be a supreme athlete. Tannehill is a supreme athlete masquerading as a football player.

And connecting on that deep ball would have done a lot more for team morale than anything Philbin decided to do at the end of the half. In fact, had he done anything to prove he could effectively move the ball I'm sure we go ahead and try to get some points there.

Not a bad idea Awsi

also you and anyone else who enjoys golf are invited to drop by the thread in "other sports" and share war stories.

I would expect a long TD pass every other game. 8 per year. Opportunities are there.
Every game you need to hit one long pass. It doesn't need to be a TD. Not a lot to ask for IMO
