Teammates Bullied Martin

you and Goon are both missing the point that it's lame for them to be trying to humiliate who they know is the weakest mental link, just because they can, when they've all done MORE than their fair share of sucking this year and helping the quarterback get beaten up. 4 all-pro linemen doing it to a wimp that isn't trying to step up is one thing, these clowns are another story.

Instead of slamming a tray and rushing off, quitting on the team like a baby, Jon Martin had the option of punching Incognito or Pouncey in their mouths.

So, this would be ok if the people doing it were among the best at their jobs in the game,
but they aren't it's NOT ok? Hm. And people say MY moral compass is off.

If success doesn't dictate morality, then why is it ok to have
hardnosed coach at all?

It's ok if the coach knows how to manage his players and their issues and if he maintains a moral compass. Being hardnosed doesn't mean you have to push things over the limit.

Yep. Getting into physical altercations isn't frowned on at all. I don't think I've
EVER heard a member of this site bemoan players fighting during practice, etc.

A punch in the mouth in that environment wouldn't be unusual, and honestly?
It would probably be the last time Martin would've had to worry about the issue.

Are we really surprised the son of a coue Liberal Harvard Attorneys ran off crying? Pussification Of The American Youth!

I'm ALWAYS surprised when any male of an adult age turns tail in the face of
adversity. It never ceases to astonish me.

I think he meant that if Martin was the reason the OL played poorly while everybody else were great at their jobs or if he refused to do his job and didn't put in the work needed, than maybe one could understand his teammates getting up and leaving him at the table, if it had been something regarding him doing something negative towards the team. However, in this case it was not justified, especially if it had been an ongoing thing. At least that's the way I understood it.

no one is denying Martin's reaction was weak and especially unbecoming of an nfl player.

yes, the closer they are to being the worst in the league, the more undignified the ostentatious ruse. i'll bet many of the other players watching felt the same way, disgusted with the whole thing.

Interesting take on the issue, I admit.

To me, if you participate in hazeing, bullying, pranking, clowning, whatever you'd like to call it,
you can't get upset when it's done to you. Now, it's coming to light that Martin participated.
Sorry, big boy rules apply in life.

Hey Goon...
I'm willing to bet, that if you took a poll asking posters opinion and how old they are...I'm certain you would see a trend.
What I mean is..I think 35+ looks at it like you,me,WV and others, while under 35 looks at it differantly based on upbringing,
and the changing times (not for the better i might add.

Oh by the way...Off topic, but whats your fav "John Wayne' flick?
Mine would be "The Searchers" followed by "True Grit and "The Shootist"...love them all.
Even have a soft spot for "The Quiet Man"

teacher leaves class and the 2nd wimpiest kid runs over and starts pounding on the wimpiest, then runs around the room as if he's a bad ass. no one with dignity and manners wants to see that crap.

edit: well if Martin has participated in such things then he has no business crying about it when it's his turn. double wimp. i'd fire all their lame asses if they don't start playing better. clown when you're good or shut up.

What's the limit?

The limit is when being "hardnosed" begins to have negative effects on the locker room, such as acts of indiscipline, fights between players, arguments between players and coaches, lack of fair-play towards opponents, etc.

I didn't want to say that out loud. Here's the thing though; That same age group has been
fighting this nations wars for the past decade or so, and doing it as well or better than
any generation before. I agree it's all about upbringing though. Who knows? Maybe us
Jurassic types are wrong on this. I just know that almost every use of force that my shift
has done in prison, a mid 40's man (me) has been called on to run in
as #1 man, when there are scads of 20somes running about. *Shrugs*

The Quiet Man is my wife's favorite movie of all time. I would order them as follows;
1- Rio Bravo
2- She Wore A Yellow Ribbon
3- The Horse Soldiers
4- The Searchers
5- Sands Of Iwo Jima
6- Rio Bravo
7- Fort Apache
8- Sons Of Katie Elder

Honestly there are very, very few I don't like. McQ....Brannigan....

So it becomes immoral only when performance suffers.

Nobody ran around the room like they were a badass in the incident at hand. They were probably
astonished that a grown man threw down his tray, threw a tantrum and walked away.

Armando Salguero just said on PFT Live that the linemen played a prank on another lineman earlier this season when they took the guy's keys and went and hid his car. Martin was not only in on it, but he was the one who drove the car.

So uh... what's really going on here?

One of "those types" eh? He can dish it out but can't take it. What a pansy.

I'm ok with friends and teammates making fun of each other, but when it's done repeatedly towards one person to the point that it becomes personal and causes that person to snap(in a weak way or not), then it has no place in a locker room of people who should be acting like grown men playing a team sport.
