Teammates Bullied Martin

Calling someone a "poopy head" can in no way be even speculated as being a bully. It's more like a little girl in grade school calling someone a name. You do have issues. :)

I'm definitely not condoning bullying. But I did observe Martin getting manhandled and thrown to the ground way too easily on several occasions during games. He did appear to be very physically weak and possibly that was the root of his problems.

When I read all the articles and comments I'm left thinking one thing:

Martin is a young man of 23. I'm sure the majority of the players I would guess to be under 27.

I think some people here talk like these are wise sages and should conduct themselves as such.

I don't think it's that black and white. The pressures, the money, and scrutiny aren't always things people even twice his age may deal well with.

No matter how this unfolds, this kid needs to likely be away from this game. It's a dominate male sport. Akin to modern gladiators.

You need mental fortitude.

and yet the guy with the "mental fortitude" blew his blocking assignment bigtime last night.

I tend to disagree a bit here. You can be more technician than nasty and be a good OL in this league. I dont remember Richmond Webb having a nasty streak.

Football is a mental game yes, but in many different ways, so I guess if he is not mentally ready in that sense, then yeah, but Jon Martin was starting to play good and he certainly did not look bad vs. NE.

dude, I dare you to walk up to martin and call him physically weak. I would love to see that.

We're often told that a general manager watched every play on tape. As I've posted many times, who cares about tape? The Dolphins have never resembled the '70s team I grew up with from a character or intelligence standpoint, so pardon me if I'm not impressed with tape. Seemingly within a day or two after every draft I listen to the newcomers being interviewed and you can basically dismiss any chance they'll ever be great, true difference makers.

I'm not impressed with Martin's frailties, and even less impressed with teammates who delight in exploiting them.

There has been political banter in this thread. Predictable. That's the new simplistic desperate theme from the right these days, that everyone gets trophies. I heard it from one guy seated next to me at a Canes vs. South Florida game a few weeks ago. When I asked for examples he predictably mumbled, and didn't have anything. Resorted to profanity and then left the area, calling me names all the way.

I'll tell you what's scary: Relying on fear. One side of the aisle these days is all about fear. They claim they don't want everyone to get trophies but they have no problem passing out fear as if it's the secret to happiness and prosperity. Be very scared, especially if the other guy doesn't look like you or act like you.

And by the way, fear somehow attaches to ignorance, that the demographics are wonderfully changing all around you, and that the ones who don't look or act like you are not impressed by all your fear, let alone attracted to it. Be happy with 47%.

Remember in training camp when the players pulled a prank on Josh Samuda by "stealing" his car? Guess who was a major part of that prank. That is right, Martin was.

Give it, but can't take it?

Obviously I'm comparing him to other nfl linemen, not myself, bright boy.

That's my take.

ETA; Since everyone's so up in arms, shouldn't someone be prosecuting Martin for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle?

I'm accused of being the "tough guy bully" in this thread.....But you guys are really way, way too impressed
with the toughness of NFL players.

How do you know when someone is going to snap? Is it ok all the way up until they snap? How about if that guy
that Martin helped hide the car on snapped? You have to take into context what the culture of the workplace is. In
a nail salon, I'd expect the employee to go to HR, or a manager and report a hostile work environment.

In an NFL locker room, I'd expect the employee to toss the other employee through the salad bar. (Figguritively)

The thing with the car happened only once. When it happens on a regular basis for over a year and a half(as most reports suggest in regatds to Martin), then it's a pretty safe guess that that person will soon feel singled out and humiliated and will snap. Whether they do it like he did or punch the other person in the mouth, it still creates a bad atmosphere and tension in the locker room.

Immoral behaviour is when the badass attitude goes out of control and causes incidents that negatively affect team members, team immage and lastly on-field play.

The thing that happened once with the car is actually a criminal offense.

In another thread I related that my co workers and I had done that exact same stunt to a
shift supervisor. *Shrugs* We are complete ****heads to one another at the prison. Very
rarely does anyone bitch about it. Most HR reps would have a ****ing corinary or stroke out
during our pre shift briefings.

Yea my old unit would all be in jail for the stuff we said and did to each other. ATTACK

And in today's world it wouldn't surprise me. The PC culture is way out of control.

In my opinion this just shows the lack of leadership and professionalism there is on this team. and the lack of respect and control that Philbin has on this team...

On the argument that that OLINE was pushing out the weaker player...etc.. PLEASE.. the entire oline is average with the exception of Pouncey. The Online played better without Martin? Oh..they also played better without Incognito too....

Martin might not a be socialable guy...maybe he was concentrated/focuses on his work....and was tired of the lack of preparation..attitude..or jokes by some of his teammates.... maybe that was breaking point s.... maybe he brought this to the attention of the coaching staff and they failed to handle it properly....

Man up Martin? How about man up the rest of the players.... concentrate on your own faults and weakness.... and work together to make this a better TEAM. You dont have to have better talent... just be a better team..

In a moment of insight, Dan LeBetard once said that "Insults are the language of intamacy among men."

It actually took me aback it was such an astute point.
If people are screwing with you, you're in. If people are
being polite, you're on the outside, and their guard is up.

Difference between the two; One player showed up to battle with his team mates. One did not, in the gutsiest win of the season so far.

One thing is for sure, as a team we have taken a reputation hit off this. I just read the comments on yahoo from fans around the league and wow its pretty bad. Philbin and the front office is gettin roasted for letting this go on. When ppl talk about the dolphins they remember the shula days, you think of class and a winning franchise but the current comments on the present dolphins is dissappointing. Philbin talks about representing the franchise in a classy way but he lets this go on this long?

Only amongst people that I could not care less about, and that do not matter to this football team.

Remember the Shula days? Heh. THOSE dudes would have had a guy like Martin over an open pit
out back, skewered and gutted. Those were legit tough guys.
