Tebow will be starting against us on "Gator Day" in OUR stadium

You don't know a single thing about LA, do you? Why don't you have tickets to this game? Not much of a fan if you ask me. And don't give me the excuse about being too far away. It's as valid as all the reasons the stadium (rarely) doesn't sell out that you conveniently ignore.

Now back to kicking your dead mule about the bad local fan base, blah blah blah. Maybe we should merge this into a giant super thread too?
Are you going to the Dolphins/Broncos game?

If people really want to go to the game and bleed Aqua and orange will go regardless of the promotion. Those are the 30,000 that are going before the 2,000 bought tickets because of the promotion.

To say someone is not going now just because of the promotion is a little silly. People are not making any more of a statement, than they were by not going in the first place. Now they have some sort of righteous reason attached to their choice.

There comes a point that it doesn't matter why people don't go (besides a losing team.) Folks weren't going anyway.

Its not the actual event itself, its the principle of it. It shows that the owner is totally out of touch with the fanbase and is willing to make me deal with 15k screaming Tebow fans. **** that noise. I bleed aqua. To try tell me I dont is crazy. Im not going to go intentionally piss myself off though.

EDIT: I see you are from Canada so you really have no clue how big of a slap in the face this is to South Florida fans. Carry on.

Really, is it a slap in the face to South Florida fans, or is it that Canes fans view it as a slap in the face to them? I think it is more about the Canes fans than the typical "South Florida" fan. The Canes were given their chance, they declined it, so it isn't like the Dolphins went after the Gators and turned their back on Hurricanes. I get that Canes fans hate the idea of a celebration of the Gators in the stadium they play their home games in(though the Dolphins are the main tenant). Though these Canes fans need to remember that while they play in this stadium, it is not THEIR stadium and this event is NOT happening during one of THEIR games. Apparently there are over 100,000 Gator alumni in the South Florida area, so I can see why the Gators were the alternate once the Canes declined.

If you are a South Florida fan but an alumni of lets say Ohio State, do you really think this "Gator Day" is a slap in your face? I highly doubt it. You probably say "oh well, no big deal" and that is the end of it. The ones in an uproar are Hurricanes fans, and maybe some others, but Canes fans are likely the one with the biggest problem. Even though this game is not happening during a Canes game or even on the same day as a Canes game. This is a NFL game that is going to use like 10 minutes at halftime to recognize a national championship of a team from the state of Flordia(the same state that the Dolphins are from). Again, this easily could have been Canes day, but they declined the invite.

Do these "South Florida fans" get in an uproar when the NFL holds the Super Bowl between two different teams in the Dolphins stadium? How is a 10 minute halftime celebration worse than that?

All the Canes stuff aside, you cannot deny the lunacy of praising the opposing starting QB at our own stadium. There is just no defending that. Im a Canes fan and Im glad we turned it down. Its retarded. The Broncos have a championship Cane in DJ Williams and I dont want a halftime ceremony honoring him at a Fins game. Thats for the Canes to do.

I'll bet 75 % of LOCAL Dolphin fans also root for the Canes. You might get a few thousand drunk college kids to pile in vans to come down and cheer for Tebow. Most will NEVER become dolphin fans or even go to another game. Being so critical of local fans down here do you think this will help get more true Dolphin followers to the game ? That's what you want right ? This will have the opposite affect and only add to local apathy. Next time we play the Jets let's have Namath night.
It will fill the stands with lots or fans booing our team. Same as Gator night.

I'm so sick of the "I'm from Canada" bull**** thrown around. My family have had a Condo in Pompano for the past 20 years. Get over it. I have more of a clue about America than most of you have ever spent learning about any place else.. like someone already saying that Canadians live in Igloos.

Now to your point.. if you can refrain from the insults... You make a decent point about "principle".. that may make sense. But most of the people complaining weren't going to the game anyway.

The team has every right to try and put ***** in the seats, if the fans won't buy them. You're arguing that they aren't appeasing to the "fans".. well the "fans" aren't buying... so they are "appeasing" to people who might buy tickets. And I have no problem with that. As for slap in the face... if we get luck and go 12-2,win the division, and go to the Superbowl.. no one is going to care about this promotion.

You just don't get the longterm hurt this causes. People don't forget, and Canes fans will not forget. Many of them own season tickets to BOTH. This is going to make a few thousand of them not renew season tickets. So to sell a 3,000 or 4,000 more tickets to ONE game, Ross has pissed off - say 1,500 who are Canes & Dolphins season ticket holders who vow not to renew Dolphins tickets next year. So he sells 3,000 to 4,000 tickets to Gator fans yet loses 1,500 tickets x 10 (got to include those damn pre-season games). You tell me how that makes business sense ?

Again, this is not Tim Tebow day. When the plans were made back in July, there was talk the Broncos might even cut Tebow before the season. For all the Dolphins knew at the time, Tebow could have been in Seattle when the Broncos came to town.

This is a gimmick to put butts in the seats. I want the stadium full and I want it full of Dolphins fans. That has always been my stance and I think you guys know that by now after I have said it numerous times. However, we are way beyond that point right now. Maybe Luck and a new coach, plus winning games in the future will solve that, but not when they are at the point that just over a week from the game there are 30,000+ unsold tickets. That is a pathetic number. If a gimmick like this can reduce that number to 28,000 or even down to 25,000, why not do it? This is more about the Dolphins than the Canes or Gators.

If a 10 minute halftime celebration is going to have people cancel their season tickets, they were not real dedicated Dolphins fans to begin with. Seriously, some of you are making a mountain out of a molehill. This little event is not going to change anything going forward in the future, and if for some reason it does, there is always a fallback option for Ross. Though he will have to get used to earthquakes.

So Ross will sell out his own team, to sell a few thousand tickets ? Great owner :rolleyes2:

Here we go with the move threats. Go ahead and move the team Ross, and what will you do with the stadium ? The Canes don't have the money to buy it, and its about time the county started charging the Dolphins property taxes on the Lake Lucerne property (as the stadium area is called). They have been getting by paying $ 1 a year in property taxes since Robbie bought the property in 1985. That's millions in back taxes and present taxes, for the 160 acres.

If Ross moves the team, trust me the county comes after him for taxes.

He doesn't own the Canes, so I don't know how he is "selling them out". In fact, the Canes pay Ross every year for the luxury of playing in the Dolphins stadium after they lost the Orange Bowl.

I highly doubt they are going to lose season ticket holders over this. Are you telling me that if Miami hires, let's say Jon Gruden and has Andrew Luck at QB and is winning 12+ games every year(people seem to think this is what will happen with Luck at QB), that people are not going to go to Dolphins games because they held a 10 minute Gator tribute at halftime of one game? Really, do you think 5 years down the road, hell even next season that people are going to still make a deal over this? Come on now. Seriously, if you are a Gators fan, enjoy the 10 minutes. If you are a Canes fan, boo those 10 minutes. If you are a Dolphins fan, use the rest room or get something to eat. Once it is done, move on and forget about it.
