The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

Tim Wakefield is climbing Alex Gonzalez status for me. He's just not pitching well at all. And I hope he's gone after the year.

Papi just got robbed of a homer. That ball would have been long gone had it not hit the roof!

Yea i saw that, that deffinetly should have been a homer!

I'm glad the Sox are out of Minnesota, damn they suck there.

On the trade: To be honest I know next to nothing about Lopez, but I don't think they should have pulled the trigger on Riske. The guy was never used and yet the Sox wasted him while continuign to give the ball to Taveras and Seanez to blow games and give up runs. Just awful. Hopefully Hansen will be up for good and setting up Papelbon along with Timlin because right now the pitching sucks.

Another thing, the line up is REALLY missing Wily Mo and his power. After Ortiz and Manny there isn't a real home run threat in the line up. Nixon is plain horrible, he hits for zero power and isn't driving in runs and thus shouldn't be batting 5th in the order. When Wily comes back I think the Sox should really think about putting him in the 5 hole because before he got hurt he was carrying the Sox offense.

Pena's due post All-Star break, no?... I've said since the season broke we're missing a bat off the bench... What purpose does Cora serve us? Harris?

Yeah, i would have wanted to hold on to Riske... He has a proven resume, whereas Lopez does not... I guess we felt we needed another lefty presence...

Riske was probably a bit knicked up but he can't pitch for the Sox. He was a 7th inning guy at best.. Lopez was tearing it up at AAA, so hopefully he can become the lefty guy.. As much as we need another starter, when Timlin isn't healthy our bullpen is taxed daily..

Cora is a very good defensive player who can play all 4 infield positions as well as some OF (I'm guessing). He also is a pretty decent hitter with some speed and has to be on the roster.

Harris, has no bat what so ever and as much as I kill him, I like how he can play every position on the field and has a lot of speed. He's like Dave Roberts (although not as good). He'll be gone once Kapler is back.

Friday news: Matt Clement is on the DL and Gabe Kapler has been called up. Mike Holtz and Dustin Mohr have been removed from the 40 man roster and the Sox have 10 days to trade or release them if they don't agree to stay in the minors.

awesome pitching job by Lester tonight :woot:

and Gonzo isn't playing! :woot: :woot:

Lester pitched VERY well tonight. I'm glad he faced an NL team, a weaker line up to build up some confidence. I really liked what I saw, can't wait to see him pitch yet again.

Congrats to Jon Lester on his first MLB win. Nothing better for a Sox fan to see 22 year old Lester getting the win and 25 year old Papelbon closing the door to end it.

THE FUTURE IS HERE!

Hell yes. He looked good out there.

Good win for the Sox today. Everyone pitched well from Beckett, to Delcarmen, Lopez, Taveras and of course Papelbon.

Ortiz had a good game today at the plate as well.

Anyway fellow Sox fans I'm heading out on vacation for a week so hopefully the Sox will play some good ball and straighten out some of their messes by the time I get back. I'll talk to you all in a week.

Hey GreenMonster, I forgot to ask you.. will you be attending any games this weekend? It just dawned on me that you are down in Atlanta. There seemed to be a pretty good following of Red Sox fans down there in Georgia this weekend.
