He's nowhere near as good as his potential would lead you to believe. I've never seen so much hype for a guy hitting .270.

And he sucked in AA Portland last year. It has nothing to do with me hating on Hanley, it's a fact.

And Gonzalez is also hitting 270 yet you rave about him

Hanley steals bases, has been great with the glove most of the season, and aside from his 0-29 slide has tore the cover off the baseball

17 doubles and 5 triples, 22 stolen bases to go with that.

Id say he is doing just fine

I rave about his defensive abilities. He has 1 error on the year (in 250+ attempts, that's absurd), I'd say that's a pretty legitimate reason.
 
You can't compare Gonzo's glove with Hanley, that would be a dumb arguement. Of course the same can be said about almost any SS in baseball.

Your right he is a great defensive player, and he is CAPABLE of hitting, and he is hot now, but before he got hot what was he hitting? .210? He never STAYS hot (granted he isnt hitting in front of the pitcher anymore in the American league) but I remember a year or two that for most of hit he hit borderline .200, what you saw in the 9th tonight was vintage gonzo....going way out of the zone and striking out....thats VERY frustrating when he does it so much and you need his bat

The Sox can live with him doing that as long as he plays gold glove D though.

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly is your point? Do you even have one?

I'm pretty sure no one in this thread has ever raved about his abilities at the plate. In fact, I remember several posters (myself included) who have stated several times that ANYTHING we recieve from Gonzo offensively is gravy.

If your trying to compare Hanley's overall abilities to that of Gonzo's to somehow legitimize what Ramirez has done, then you don't have very high hopes for Hanley. There's a reason that Gonzo was available via FA in March, he's not a complete player. If there's still a legitimate comparison between the two players down the road, then the Red Sox completely owned the Marlins in the Beckett deal.

Not comparing gloves, Gonzalez is the best in the MLB with a glove no doubt in my mind, but im talking overall

(Average, Speed, RBI, Power, Glove)

When you look at Hanley and power remember he hits leadoff, he doesnt have as many RBI chances, especially since the pitcher is hitting before him and generally not getting on base.

and

His 22 stolen bases is great to, their average is about the same but they got there in totally different ways. neither way is better I guess, 270 is 270 no matter how you slice it

he is perfect for an AL team like yours, but its frustrating when you count on his bat like we did

Hanley has been better at the plate no doubt. If Gonzo bats .250 by the end of the year I'll do back flips.

I didnt start anything, i said I was happy with Hanley, you attacked his ability, and I compared SS and said im glad we have Hanley now instead of Gonzo

My point was to come in here and talk about the series, like I did BEFORE it started, ive been excited about this series since before we even played the D-Rays

I think since we have a double header coming up pretty soon, Sanchez will start the Double Header game where Moehler would usually be pitching, then take over in the rotation

Thats what I hope anyway
