The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

This is just a pathetic showing tonight. I know Tampa Bay has a very good young line up and I understand that however the Sox are playing very flat and just look like they're not trying or caring. Outside of Scott Kazmir, Tampa Bay doesn't really have good pitching yet they're dominating the Sox. The Sox tonight aren't taking their pitches and swinging at bad pitches and at balls when they're up in the count. Just pathetic.

i agree that the Sox are playing bad, but the pitching has been as bad as you think. Corcoran the starter yall faced tonight has been great since being put in the rotation, only giving up 1 ER in 12 innings. an Casey Fossum has been on a roll, just caught him at the wrong time.

Nothing better than getting dominated by Tampa Bay stiffs (I mean starters) on back-to-back nights.

Johnson better be gone, that guy is atrocious. He allows WAY too many baserunners, what was his WHIP tonight, like 3+? Pauley or Snyder better be taking his spot in the rotation, cause if we continue to run Johnson out there, it's a loss every 5th day.

This series has been beyond pathetic thus far...

And in 7 innings against the Red Sox before tonight, he had allowed 6 earned runs. The guy isn't very good, but our lineup has been worse.

Youkilis has come back down to earth over the past week or so, he's been in a major slump. Not a positive considering he's our leadoff hitter and catalyst. And our other option at the leadoff spot, Coco Crisp, couldn't hit sand if he fell off a camel at this point. He's hitless in like 18 at bats.

Basically, we're making a very bad Tampa staff look very good.

Even so, a team like the Red Sox should be able to beat Fossum and Corcoran no matter how good they have been pitching. They're just playing flat. Crawford totally took them out of the game. Corcoran was very shakey in the first few innings but bat at bats from Loretta, Manny and Nixon, helping him get out of the jam gave the kid confidence. If that happened a week ago the kid probably wouldn't have made it out of the 2nd.

agreed. Corcoran looked very sharp his first 2 starts, and was not that this start. i really thought it was going to be a high scoring game for both after the first couple innings.

He hit Youk with his 1st pitch and then all 3 balls to Loretta he threw almost hit him in the head. Just an awful display after that from the Sox hitters tonight. HOpefully the Sox get their heads out of their butts and play hard tomorrow because they don't want to go into Chicago playing like this because if they do they'll be in 2nd or 3rd place going into the All-Star game.

We don't mash any lefties, ever. Case in point, Ted Lilly. However just because we don't mash them doesn't mean they don't suck.

I've seen enough of Casey Fossum to conclude he sucks, regardless of how he performs against the Boston Red Sox.

so your saying you always make fossum look so much better than he is?

Fossum doesnt suck, hes just incredibly inconsistant.

Ok class, hush up.

Number one. Yes. Cleveland, Detroit and Aneheim are the few of many examples of teams who make Fossum look like the real Fossum.

Number two. Being incredibly inconsistant = sucktitude.

I'm saying we make alot of lefties look better than they really are, it's a fact. This lineup has a terrible time hitting any type of lefties.

And after watching Casey Fossum with the Red Sox, Diamondbacks and recently with the Devil Rays, it's safe to say he sucks. Also, funny how you should mention Fossum's inconsistency. Isn't the mark of a good pitcher his ability to put together quality outings on a consistent basis?

Fossum isn't just inconsistent, he's terrible. There's a reason the Diamondbacks dumped him one year after acquiring him for Schilling.

Wily Mo is on his way back to Boston, he's the only one of the Sox that really hits lefties well and consistently. (He's been playing a little 1st base in Triple A by the way).

i never said hes a good pitcher. but he has nights where he can shut down anyone in baseball.

A few notes:

Wily Mo Pena went 2 for 3 yesterday in Triple A including hitting a homer. He's batting .375 (6 for 16) in 4 games so he could be called up any time now, with my guess Willie Harris being sent down.

Matt Clement had a set back in his rehab so who knows when he'll be back.... or cares.

David Ortiz is battling a sore wrist. He says it doesn't hurt when he swings but the Sox should make him drop out of HR Derby. I believe he hurt his back in last years. It's just not worth it.

Manny Ramirez is dropping out of the All-Star game to rest his injuries.

The rotation for after the All-Star Break: Wakefield, Beckett, Schilling, Lester and Johnson.

why is it that people are getting on Manny? saying he owes the fans? so he should play in a game that doesnt count for his team while being slightly injured what so ever.

people just love to complain. :shakeno:
