The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

Looking for the sweep today against Jose Contreras who has been unreal since last July. The Sox have knocked him around when he was with the Yankees, but he's clearly a different pitcher now. Should be an interesting game with Curt taking the mound. You know he wants to prove a point to Ozzie about the ASG so look for him to pitch well.

Baseball is a funny game, the Red Sox couldn't get out of their own way in Tampa Bay yet they're beating up a better White Sox team, while Tampa Bay is rolling over for the Yankees, a lesser team right now. Go figure.

It's all about mind games and momentum.

Ah... I don't know. I mean Timlin and Papelbon are great. IF Hansen and Delcarmen can pitch like people say they can then yes, however they're both still young and raw but I'll take them over Seanez or Juilian. Then I'd have to say yes, especially considering every team in the MLB in the playoff race will be looking for bullpen help, the Sox help might come from their own system.

I'm really like Javy Lopez too. This trade is working out for the Red Sox.

And yes I agree this is how you draft players. I wonder if people still think the Sox are overrated their prospects a bit.... Papelbon and Lester sure don't seem overrated right now and Hansen and Delcarmen are making their own cases now.

About the bullpen though... You could argue that it is equal to or greater than the bullpen of '04. Especially now with Lopez as your key lefty specialist.

Yeah probably, I mean in 2004 you had a very good Foulke, Timlin, and Embree. Papelbon is better than Foulke is, Timlin and Timlin is a wash (although 2004 verison gets the advantage because he's younger), Embree is better than Lopez right now (only because Lopez needs to do it more), however Hansen and Delcarmen are better than Curt Leskanic and Ramiro Mendoza.

RUMOR ALERT:

From FOX Sports:
A rival GM said the Red Sox have "very strong" interest in acquiring Bobby Abreu, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

This rumor doesn't make much sense because it will probably take a lot to get him. Plus they have Nixon and Wily Mo to play RF, Wily Mo who could take over for Nixon next year should the team decide to not resign him. Maybe the Sox are trying to keep Abreu out of NY? Or maybe they want the Yankees to panic from hearing the news and go overboard and trade away their prospects for him? It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Of course if the players involved are Clement and Nixon I'm all for it. In case anyone is wondering Abreu will make $15 mill in 2007 and will probably want his $16 million option picked up in 2008 if he agrees to the trade (he has a no trade clause).

Again this is a rumor, but interesting at that.

If you guys get Abreu I will be crying for a week.

Well I don't see this happening, so you won't have to cry for a week. The trade wouldn't make sense at all for the Red Sox. Like I said I think it's just the Sox FO putting pressure on the Yankees to make a deal giving up their few prospects they have (Phillip Hughes) to make a panic move in fear of their rival getting him.

Ah extra innings after Paps gave up a homer to Dye. Too bad we couldn't give Contreras his first L.

I'm watching the game on Extra Innings Package and I'm getting the White Sox feed so I'm listening to the White Sox announcers, I must admit now that I used to think that the Braves and Yankee announcers were the bigger homers in baseball but I was wrong. These White Sox announcers are worse, much worse. They are crying after every play that goes against them. It's pretty funny to listen to them actually. It makes you appreciate the Rem Dog and Osellio

are you saying Paps blew the save?

More about the Abreu rumor, just my speculation if it is indeed true: Perhaps the Sox are going to ship Abreu out to a 3rd team for pitching help? Perhaps to the Cubs for Prior/Zambrano? or LAA for Ervin Santana? Just thinking out loud. Personally I don't think there's any truth to the rumor but it's fun to speculate.

Getting Abreu will cost the Sox a lot so hopefully if there is a 3rd team involved the Sox could get a good pitcher back for him.

Out of those three, Zambrano, he's such a monster pitcher, always healthy, throws hard, and he's not afraid to throw inside. Schilling, Beckett and Zambrano, now that's a scary starting rotation.

Yeah I agree, although I like Prior's stuff much more but the guy is always hurt. I wouldn't touch him at all.

I was just throwing some names out there. Because I know the Cubs are looking to possibly dump one of their pitchers and could use a big bat like Abreu for next year. I know the Angels need a big left handed bat too. I'm sure the Tigers and maybe White Sox will look to upgrade their OF so who knows.

Z is one of my fav pitcher in the bigs, there is no way the cubs are getting rid of him this year, you kidding me? If he went to the sox i may have to hang myself :shakeno: lol

16th inning, will this game ever end?

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
