The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

These are the dog days of the baseball season.

It is no surprise to me to see the Sox slumping like this. The Yankee success is also just a mirage. We will see in September who the real men are in this division. This Red Sox team is a team built for SEPT/OCT baseball. IMVHO.

I still think the Yankees are a good team but I think they have some serious holes that haven't caught up to them yet.

I'm worried about the Sox starters. With Wakefield being hurt for who knows how long and the health of Wells (I don't think we can be confident that he'll be good). Beckett and Lester really need to step it up.

I agree I don't see the Sox doing any major moves because their young players in the pen have stepped it up. I think the Sox could get a reliever for a low minor leaguer but no major Nomar-like blockbuster.

Yeah the same team who seems to always be the "real men" in the division every year in September and October, the Yankees. It sucks you guys can't play in the National League East all year doesn't it? Forget worrying about the Yankees, you guys need to worry about battling the Blue Jays for 2nd place!

I love it. First it was the poor Yankees with all their injuries, so if they didn't win the division and make the playoffs it was ok because you can have one bad year out of 10, and now since they're a half a game back, they have won the division already. This is great stuff. I'm surprised the Yankees haven't put up the 27th Championship sign at Yankee Stadium yet.

It's only July 18th and a long way to go. I wouldn't be making statements like this just yet.

The Yankees are the "real men" in October? :sidelol:

Not in half a decade they haven't been. They've been passed around like a hooker in Amsterdam the past 5 years.

Good luck trying to actually get to Rivera with that bullpen. :sidelol:

Farnsworth, Proctor......

Notes for tonight: Wily Mo Pena and Van Buren were called up with Willie Harris and Javier Lopez being sent down. I'm surprised Lopez was sent down but after thinking about it, Lopez has options and is a one batter pitcher. With the uncertainty of Wakefield, Van Buren could be used as a long man.

Lester for 8 and Paps for 1... Got to like when the young arms leave the older guys on the bench.. Lester when he gets some more control is gonna be real good.. That guy can pitch..

Absolutely beautiful win tonight, seeing the future of the Sox. Jon Lester pitches 8 innings of 1 hit ball, while striking out 4 and Papelbon shuts the door with a perfect ninth inning.

The bats need to wake up though. Getting 1 run vs. KC is pretty pathetic.

Anyway good win tonight as Lester saved the pen and more importantly the Yankees are looking like they could drop the game vs. Seattle tonight.

You beat me to it Monster. It's great to see the young guys pitch. So much for these guys being overhyped as the next Brian Rose/Paxton Crawford type.

Lester can pitch is right, and I agree when he learns how to control his pitches he's going to be an extremely effective pitcher.

And to think on a night where the Red Sox send out their 22 year old top prospect stud lefty pitcher in Lester, who is 5-0 by the way, and have their 25 year old stud closer in Papelbon close the door, the Yankees send out a former beer bum reject who's been on 4 teams in the past 3 and a half years in Sydney Ponson and they're saying we should worry about 2nd or 3rd place.
